5CC Space Race interest thread

Well we have 4 lux right now so we could've built temples and cathedrals later after Sanitation. The army is currently empty, I figured an ACav army would be useless since other civs have pikes and soon muskets.
 
Most cities will work a full 20 tiles, and the others in your empire 18 or 19. Even with the extra contentedness at Monarch, cathedrals+Sistine will help here to keep research up and luxes low. Did the army defeat any of the other tribe's units? You need that for the Military Academy (but you'll want to wait until an AI researches MT for you). You can check by seeing if you can build the Heroic Epic.

lurker's comment: Isn't it better to have only two cities with maxed shields and the others as big as possible for extra scientists? It would help with the techpace and by the time you get to the modern age, you really only need two cities for the components.
 
I am not sure about waiting for cavalry before filling army, once we have a victory with an army we can allways disband later and build another one, it would be nice to get that victory to allow pre-build options

Edit : Is there any saltpeter close?
 
France has saltpeter near Rheims which is a border town. It's close enough that with luck, we could raze Rheims, colonize the saltpeter quickly and upgrade all spears->muskets. I don't think we could hold it long enough to produce much of anything. And since we don't have military tradition, a winning army now would only give us Heroic Epic.

Selling banking to the Incas?

My suggestions is sell banking to Incas, tie vikings in Military Alliance, Build temples, put AC in army and prepare to flatten rheims, with an expansion to rostov in 14 turns we would then have salt peter on the edge of our kingdom, we will have horses within moscows boarder very soon too (4 turns), I had hoped we would have had road there by now.

Once we have destroyed rheims I suggest peace with french.

We will reseach TOG after physic and so will start pre-build on newtons after a temple in novograd.

Do we really want alliances that cost us money when the war is a phony war? The banking deal looks ok, but kind of weak. The war with France is probably giving us war happies, so unless we are losing, why end it?
 
Yeah, we don't need the Vikings in. One problem with fomenting wars is that they're using their money on things other than our third-generation techs.

I'm a slave whore, so I'd be tempted to DoW the Vikings and slam that settler pair, and then ally someone (Inca) in against them to keep them distracted. This would also have the effect of clearing that part of our border; I'd very very much like to not have to deal with a Viking city on our doorstep any time soon. (Banking for the alliance + all their cash would be semi-useful). Of course, we'd then need to be careful not to make peace with the Vikings before that alliance was up.

Getting that saltpeter is a pipe dream, even for a few turns, and we really don't need the musket upgrades anyway. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd probably hold off on the army unless, miraculously, we can get a second leader somehow. Then I'd take the army, and use it, and keep the second leader in store for a "real" army. (The first one can be disbanded once it outlives its usefulness.)
 
Remember, you can't use an army as a pre-build in a game like this if you have an army around. But, if you had a victorious army at some point and DON'T have an army lying around, then you can use an army as a pre-build.
 
Well isn't the military academy also 400 shields, the same as an army? If we have a victorious army that still exists, that could be used as a prebuild.

Irrigate EVERYTHING post-sanitation. I don't recall having a production problem in a 5CC for the spaceship, more of research going slowly. If you need more shields, you'll still have workers around, so just re-mine later. The only time I recall production lacking comes in OCC SS games, not in any 5CC SS game.

Personally I think an Army now would be more useful and once we have an army we can always build military academy and get another if we want later

Ah yeah. scratch that about the Vikings then.
 
I like AC armies. I can't upgrade the AC anyway, and the AC army does well against everything through muskets. Two vet AC and an elite* AC gives you a 16 hp, 4/3/3 unit. I like to use them on units in the open, rather than attacking cities, but they do well in cities with proper artillery support. Even after nationalism, they take out red-lined rifles pretty well. Once you get MT you can always disband it and build a new cavalry army. Surely you can use 100 shields somewhere by then.
 
Right I have played to 390AD and we have Peter the Great (A leader hanging about), I have a decision to make, Moscow could build the heroic epic in one, or could continue wonder building 600 shields in 20 turns and I could either leave peter or use him to rush heroic epic, I have embassies with incans and hittites and pulled incans into allaince against portugese giving the gpt, so we must not make peace with portugese, I got gpt plus back for banking

What do you think we should do with leader and moscow
 
So, we have an AC army and a second leader?

If so, that's pretty cool. I'd probably hand build Heroic Epic, then go back to whatever it was doing before that. We won't get any MORE leaders, but I think that's not a big problem since we'll be able to build the Military Academy (a better thing to rush IMO).

I'm at work though and not thinking clearly, so take this with a large grain of salt.
 
Right after time to think, my thoughts are we just keep Peter for a later army if we want, we dont bother with heroic epic yet but leave Moscow on Leo Duty for now, we could always build epic later of we fall to a wonder cascade

I am going to road horses, hook up iron colony and also salt peter
 
Right I am putting save up will do a write up later just to say we are at war with vikings (they demanded I refused), we have horses and Iron hooked up and there is an ottoman settler pair that can be attacked if wanted, we are at peace with france and I have blocked of saltpeter, we can temporarily hook this up till paris expands. And road me we will soon be able to trade with france, more details later

Some details have been missed, but to sumarise our position, we have horses and an Iron colony hooked up, we are close to hooking up saltpeter

We have an alliance with the incans against portugal, we are giving gpt for this but get more back for tech sale, we must continue this alliance but hope the incans make peace within portugese to gain more cash,

We are at war with the vikings and have destroyed their new city

I have not lost any units during the turn and have gained 2 AC, we can now build Knights

Moscow is on wonder duty of Leos and Novograd should be building Newtons but may be on palace as I think I forgot to switch

Moscow could swicth to a different wonder if one became available.

If whoever is up next feels thay could cope with a war with the ottomans a settler pair is up for grab, I think we have enough ability to maintain our war against the vikings for now but am happy to make peace, we must maintain war with portugal though

Long term I think once our peace treaty with the French expires an attack on Paris may get a number of slave workers

Novograd expands in 4 turns taking it to the lip of saltpeter, I have a worker who I was moving to build the colony, he should first help the 2 french slaves complete the road
