then- ahhh - ignore my infrastructure spending- i need to do it again.

I suspect I did it wrong, but infrastructural spending orders sent.

I am going to be AWOL for the next 24 hours. If this precludes me from being able to send orders within time for the update zero or whatever the best term is then so be it. However, if possible, I'd like to send in revised infrastructure orders 8-ish PM EST tomorrow.

Hello Earth Children.

It has been five years since we last talked.

A lot can happen in five years.

Five years ago we were cut off.

We starved.

We cried.

We died.

Lacaille had led us badly.

We had to look elsewhere for leadership.

And in our own worlds we found them.

At first not everyone accepted them.

Then there was strife.

Now we all accept them.

We present ourselves united to you once more.

We know that Lacaille has failed us.

Earth too has failed us.

We reject our parentage.

We are Earth Children no longer.

We greet you as the Elder Children.

Nyamekye Empire

(a little quick and dirty but an introduction none-the-less)

Emperor Nikolai Decados is the son of Admiral Alexandar Decados of the Third Fleet. When the Republic faltered and crumbled, Alexandar Decados was more than ready to make his move. Some say he was not only aware of the imminent fall, but instrumental in its collapse. Regardless, as the Republic failed and the remnants of the grand armadas sought to re-impose order, commanders and captains loyal to Decados, often brothers, sons, nephews or otherwise related to the admiral followed Alexandar in his bid for power and seized Nyamekye, Gulashy, and Moric for themselves.

Admiral Alexandar Decados at the fall of the Republic.

Lacaille righted itself, declaring Alexandar Decados and his family traitors to the republic. Many of the citizenry felt no real loyalty to the Decados junta- though a native of the Russio-Roman planet Nyamekye- Alexandar and his coconspirators had traditionally served at the capital. Soon the Republic returned with vengeance, striking Nyamekye and Gulashy from orbit with fierce bombardment. On desert Gulashy, there was nowhere to hide and the Decados rebellion was swiftly brought to an end, the cousins and nephews of Alexandar either destroyed in neutron fire or hung up in gallows as a sign for otheres (explaining its low stability). On Nyamekye, the Decados military made use of the planet’s archipelagos to hide beneath the seas in the shadows of the planet’s numerous ferrous islands. Feigning defeat they allowed the Lacaille military to make planet-fall only to emerge from the seas and destroy the orbiting capital-class ships in an epic two-day aerio-orbital dogfight. The Lacaille cruisers and carriers were destroyed and the Republican soldiers, surrounded and with no way home quickly surrendered.

Celebrating their freedom, Alexandar Decados declared himself Czar of Nyamekye and Moric and ordered his sons to move on the surrounding planets as far as Vitow, Huntelaar, and Andrews. But the Republic, having lost one battle, had not lost the war and met the Decados fleet at Vitow and in a pyrrhic victory, destroyed its capital ships and slew the Czar. At Garibaldi, the Decados fleet encountered the independent Garibaldi one and a peace was brokered between the rebel powers who both sought to focus on resisting Republican rule. It is Nikolai himself who faced the garrisons of Hughenden, Huntelaar and Theodrorakis.

After his victories over these planets, the eldest son of the rebel admiral was content to consolidate his power and a cease-fire was agreed with the Republican forces of the First Great and Bountiful Human Empire who itself was seeking to consolidate its domestic rule.

Emperor Nikolai Decados, present-day

Emperor Nikolai Decados rules the Nyamekye emperor through force of arms and the support of his family and its many loyal soldiers and spies. Numerous small-scale rebellions have led to a relative disenfranchisement of the majority population. This has been achieved by limiting not only political power but actual power through severe limits on access to technology and communications. Ultimately the planets have been divided into local baronies, each ruled by a member of the Decados clan or one of its loyal allies. These barons rule the local populations through fear and might and it is they that do business with the interplanetary merchants and each other.

In five short years of rule Nikolai Decados has turned a democratic empowered population into one resembling nothing so much as a medieval fiefdom where the monarch’s power is absolute and political and temporal power is achieved through loyalty, obedience and exemplary service.

When Komandant Viktor Tereshchenko decided to secretly leave the Galactic Navy because of the beautiful Anastasia, little did he know that his timing would be as fortunate as it turned out to be.
As he and Anastasia covertly left command cruiser “Red Bolshevik” in a ‘malfunctioning’ escape pod, they saw through the only viewport a sight that would haunt them for the remainder of their lives. Matt black space vessels, had stealthily approached the ships of the fleet. As if the pod’s departure was the cue, these ships began boarding the much larger vessels. Viktor would wonder at the time if these raiders would be successful, but years later, now living under the rule of the Black Shogun, he knew the answer all too well.

The Black Shogun “Minamoto no Yoshinaka” has thus far maintained a very low profile and little is truly known of him by outsiders. He was a high ranking member of the Republic military and when the government fell, he and the soldiers under his command decided to establish a new home for themselves which would mirror the old ways of feudal Japan. Many of the soldiers that followed him are of Japanese descent, but even those that are not of Japanese origin idolize Minamoto no Yoshinaka enough to follow him anywhere. The members of his military, The Black Dragons, continue to live through many harrowing missions, and the troops would do anything for him, including attacking Republic ships and then using them to take the planets Musamba, Gamelin, O’Neill and Suruga by force.
The Black Dragons have used any means available to them when maintaining civil order. This has resulted in a people who believe themselves secure and have begun to trust in the Black Shogun’s leadership. The last remaining hurdle to achieving relative stability and contentment is on the planet Gamelin, where Black Dragon leadership claims a grass roots disturbance known as “Red Bolshevik” has taken root. It too shall be rooted out in the name of the Black Shogun!

Update: 1st Quarter 2520

Human Trading Company League Economic Report

Lacaille itself represents nearly one-third of the known space potential economy, potentially including nearly 90% of commercial activity. The loss of many of its subject worlds, however, has forced it to take up agriculture to support its massive population, leaving a great deal of its infrastructure sitting idly by. The rest of known space focuses on resource harvesting, to the exclusion of all else save farming. A few ex-colonies, notably the Kennicott Freehold, have focused on industry, relying on importing resources from the assorted other colonies. Given the scarcity of industrial infrastructure, it's certainly a buyer's market in resources and factories are proving even more lucrative than anticipated.

Lacaille, then, is the economic superpower, followed by Kennicott by virtue of its industrial plenty, and then Verseveldt as the third power, albeit underdeveloped for its size and sitting on substantial liquid assets.

Brief economic statistics:
161 units of resource infrastructure universe-wide
131 units of industrial infrastructure universe-wide (out of a possible 322)
120 units of commercial infrastructure universe-wide (out of a possible 146)

Miscellaneous Rule Changes:
Due to the less-than-amicable nature of the Human Republic's breakup, all powers are considered to be at war unless otherwise stated.

Players only receive stats for their own worlds and worlds of which they have a ship in orbit.

Starships may only be built around planets on which they have at least one point on industrial infrastructure. As I have no idea what your plans are, for this next update you may buy a point of industrial infrastructure on a planet and buy ships around that planet immediately. For subsequent updates you may only build ships around planets on which there was a point of infrastructure since before that update.

Ships my only jump once per turn.

Garibaldi,

We know little of you or your rule. Please share with us your ideologies and vision for the future for humanity. Perhaps we should be discussing official peace terms.

Black Shogunate,

We monarchists must support one another. We offer you a treaty of peace and co-prosperity.

Vegetti,

We know little of you or your rule. Please share with us your ideologies and vision for the future for humanity. Perhaps we should be discussing official peace terms

To encourage specialization, what about limiting the # of ships to the # of industrial points? So 2 industry allows 1 ship per turn, 4 industry 2 ships per turn, etc., or whatever you find more balanced. Otherwise people will just put 1 industry everywhere.

We are as much children of the Great Republic as you, but neither of us are our parents, and Neither should be punished for the sins of our Fathers. What say you to peace in our Time?

We, as you, are Heirs to the Republic, Heirs who have independently determined the proper way of Rule. As such, I propose to Marry one of my children to one of yours, ensuring peace between our people.

We are unsure of how to deal with those who have so brazenly declared themselves 'nobles' and 'emperors' so quickly after the Republic's demise. We of the Garibaldi Foundation nonetheless welcomes you to our space. We are but simple miners and farmers ruled by the Director.

Our heritage is null.

We reject the idea that there is any meaningful continuity between the Rule of the Republic and the Rule of the Elders.

Lacaille's Republic has failed us.

Lacaille's Empire shall never rule us.

Let us agree that there shall be no strife between us.
