Nyamekye Empire
(a little quick and dirty but an introduction none-the-less)
Emperor Nikolai Decados is the son of Admiral Alexandar Decados of the Third Fleet. When the Republic faltered and crumbled, Alexandar Decados was more than ready to make his move. Some say he was not only aware of the imminent fall, but instrumental in its collapse. Regardless, as the Republic failed and the remnants of the grand armadas sought to re-impose order, commanders and captains loyal to Decados, often brothers, sons, nephews or otherwise related to the admiral followed Alexandar in his bid for power and seized Nyamekye, Gulashy, and Moric for themselves.

Lacaille righted itself, declaring Alexandar Decados and his family traitors to the republic. Many of the citizenry felt no real loyalty to the Decados junta- though a native of the Russio-Roman planet Nyamekye- Alexandar and his coconspirators had traditionally served at the capital. Soon the Republic returned with vengeance, striking Nyamekye and Gulashy from orbit with fierce bombardment. On desert Gulashy, there was nowhere to hide and the Decados rebellion was swiftly brought to an end, the cousins and nephews of Alexandar either destroyed in neutron fire or hung up in gallows as a sign for otheres (explaining its low stability). On Nyamekye, the Decados military made use of the planet’s archipelagos to hide beneath the seas in the shadows of the planet’s numerous ferrous islands. Feigning defeat they allowed the Lacaille military to make planet-fall only to emerge from the seas and destroy the orbiting capital-class ships in an epic two-day aerio-orbital dogfight. The Lacaille cruisers and carriers were destroyed and the Republican soldiers, surrounded and with no way home quickly surrendered.
Celebrating their freedom, Alexandar Decados declared himself Czar of Nyamekye and Moric and ordered his sons to move on the surrounding planets as far as Vitow, Huntelaar, and Andrews. But the Republic, having lost one battle, had not lost the war and met the Decados fleet at Vitow and in a pyrrhic victory, destroyed its capital ships and slew the Czar. At Garibaldi, the Decados fleet encountered the independent Garibaldi one and a peace was brokered between the rebel powers who both sought to focus on resisting Republican rule. It is Nikolai himself who faced the garrisons of Hughenden, Huntelaar and Theodrorakis.
After his victories over these planets, the eldest son of the rebel admiral was content to consolidate his power and a cease-fire was agreed with the Republican forces of the First Great and Bountiful Human Empire who itself was seeking to consolidate its domestic rule.
Emperor Nikolai Decados, present-day
Emperor Nikolai Decados rules the Nyamekye emperor through force of arms and the support of his family and its many loyal soldiers and spies. Numerous small-scale rebellions have led to a relative disenfranchisement of the majority population. This has been achieved by limiting not only political power but actual power through severe limits on access to technology and communications. Ultimately the planets have been divided into local baronies, each ruled by a member of the Decados clan or one of its loyal allies. These barons rule the local populations through fear and might and it is they that do business with the interplanetary merchants and each other.
Emblem of the Decados Dynasty and the Nyamekye Empire
In five short years of rule Nikolai Decados has turned a democratic empowered population into one resembling nothing so much as a medieval fiefdom where the monarch’s power is absolute and political and temporal power is achieved through loyalty, obedience and exemplary service.
