Sisiutil, I need to know about your nearby civs before i comment on what to do. If you haven't met anyone, I'd say expand in a way to prevent incursions to the north.

after WBing a bit, i can tell you Calavente was right : a city on a hill doesn't spread irrigation . I'll edit my previous post accordingly.

With biology, the farm should still provide food, however, doing this will cut off irrigation, reducing all the down-chain farm tiles' food output by 1.

Ah, this must be why it was at least possible for me to do so.
