A New Dawn Beta Builds

strategy if you havn't seen the other posts yet use the "Program Files (x86)" path. I've been using a 64 bit OS and machine since last march. Load the game into the Program (x86) path and you should do just fine.

JosEPh :)

I'm also using Windows 7 x64 with no problems. I'd advise against using either of the Program Files directories and using some other folder for your Civ 4 installation as they are protected by Windows 7 UAC, which prevents some programs from writing into such protected folders if they are not written to correctly request a prompt for an Administrator password.

Well, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and I install my civ stuff to C:\Games (x86)\Firaxis etc etc., and I've not had any trouble at all installing, or playing.

However, I've run into abit of a snag, I am unsure which part of AND 1.60beta4 would have caused this, but will endeavor to check it out when I have some free time.

I typically go through single player, custom games, and check various options. I like most of those, choose religions, raging barbs, bar civs, generals, etc etc. I get to place my cites, units, techs buildings, what not, then.... I just the the main screen.. there is no little map in the corner, no icons at all. I doubleclick for the city screen, and it'll pop up, but there ain't anything, just the map with circles. the function keys works, though. It's kinda funny, the beta3 was fine. And yeah, I always do fresh installs of RoM between AND changes.

That's caused by a bug in the python somewhere. Could you turn on python error logging (In your CivilizationIV.ini) and post a copy of your PythonErr.log's for me?

Thats were its at:crazyeye:, there is another guy in above posts that is having the same problems:confused:

I think there is something wrong with the installer/uninstaller:(

I changed the UAC down to the lowest point, i also tried to place all Firaxis files into another folder area, but to no avail.

EDIT: I think i have found a "work around" the problem, will test it out.

Is it a bug in the red box which i marked:confused: I remember that was not a silver star at beta3....

attachment.php

Am I the only person who has this graphic problem? Every city I build displays a silver star instead of city defense mark(dark sandglass or tower, I remember). And the city's :yuck: does not appear in the city bar. It really bothers my playing...

Two things that I have experienced with Beta 4.5.

1. After my city got unhealty, the :yuck: icon never shows up. Anybody else seen this?

2. I've tried the "changing of difficulty level" (don't remember the name for it). Whats up with revolutions when I tried this? I built my second city about 100 turns in game and after another 20-50 turns that city was gone due to revolution and being sacked by the new civ. Am I starting on too high diff level to begin with?

EDIT: After some more testing, I can fairly say that once you connect your second city to the capital Rev goes berserk. When not connected to capital it loses maybe 1% or something every turn. When I connect it to capital it gets "Distant location 170" and loses maybe 25% per turn.

AND Log:

EDIT2: Added Screenshots before and after I connect second city to capital.

I changed my PLE option to Horizontal grouping.

I fortified my units after I got the town watchman and this came up.

Then I went to BUG options and tried to change the Draw to BUG and then to PLE. Neither solved that problem.

So WTH is up with the black square? Never happened in older BUG version... I like my units being horizontally grouped by unit type.

I had to fiddle with the Plot List options to get the small round buttons to show up. Not sure what made them appear.

Also, I experience a significant slowdown with 1.60b4½. The graphics are sluggy, e.g. scrolling across the map is much slower than before. I have a feeling it is because I installed Formations. Can I turn it off in an ongoing game? There ought to be an ingame option somewhere, it isn't available in the custom game setup. Using single unit graphics don't improve performance.
Updated to BUG/BULL latest versions
Updated to pre-RevDCM 2.7
Updated to Better AI v83
Another possibility for the slowdown is these changes in 1.60b4. Am I the only one with this problem?
I checked No Warlords at game setup, yet Military Training says it will give me the Warlord units. I haven't finished researching it yet, so I don't know if they will actually appear. This is 1.60b4½
I checked after getting to Military Tradition. The Warlord units do not show up in the build list in a city, and I do have the prerequisites. But they do show up in the tech tree as results from Military Tradition.

Edit: I tried disabling Formations in ...\Assets\Modules\Afforess\MLF_CIV4ModularLoadingControls.xml but I couldn't load my save after that. I could start a new game, and it appeared to speed up to the usual high performance standard I have come to expect after Aforess made his speed fixes.

I'll reinstall b4½ without Formations, just to be on the safe side.

Edit again: I think the uninstaller may still be broken. After uninstalling and reinstalling I had a ...\Mods\Rise of Mankind\Assets\XML\XML\XML with lots of stuff in it, and ...\Mods\Rise of Mankind\Assets\XML didn't contain all it should have. Time to start over with RoM, than add AND 1.60b4½

Now because of the uninstaller not working (for me) i get this error, dont know now because of it, if it is a real error or not, but i'd rather be safe than sorry, thats why i am putting it here:

I had a strange problem, the Uninstaller for Beta 3 failed in the end and just disappeared without saying that uninstall was completed. This lead to my Desktop folder in this user being deleted. Not a big deal, just lost a few custom shortcuts, but I think you should stop messing with the Desktop folder or putting anything in it.

Windows XP Home SP3

The uninstaller isn't working. Afforess has already said that. Just delete your main RoM mod folder to "uninstall".

Hi Afforess, did you read my post at the end of page 19? It has a part of information for you.

And a little feedback: to set the MAX_BOMBARD_DEFENSE to 75 can make the trebuchets valid.

Huh, the Rev thing is really tough now... I wasn´t able to found even one city. When I tried I had immediate revolution and this city was destroyed twice... after that I gave up.

played on monarch difficulty.

In the last beta I played with flexible difficulty setting and it was tough but I had the chance
to build a few cities without instant riots and civilisations upheaval every 3 turns.

Maybe you found too many cities in the ancient ages. On immortal diffculty, I usually found 4 cities in the ancient ages. But to make them stable, you must ensure that you have the state religion in all cities, better without other non-state religions, and change civs to state-religion and others which can perform local stablity.

In the middle ages, I recommend you use the republic civs. It can bring a lot of stablity for your cities. I usually have about ten cities in this ages, if my neighbours is too weak to conquer, maybe I will have more.

And for the later ages, the stablity will be not the most important problem. Instead of that, is the financial problem. When you have the federal, you can avoid it.

The last advice, always fort your cities by your armies.

with barb form a new civ enabled am getting error log:

Error in begingameturn event handles alt bound method barbarianciv.barbarianciv instance at 0x51663288>>

Next line: unidentifiable c++ exception

Game play seen un effected so far. Any ideas?

What's the version you are playing? Can you upload the python log file ( My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Logs\PythonErr.log ) ? If you can't find that file, you must find the string "LoggingEnabled = 0" in the file of "CivilizationIV.ini" under "My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\" and edit the string to "LoggingEnabled = 1", then load the game which popup this error message, and get the error again.

I found a bug that the old siege weapons can not upgrade to the modern one in the most of time. But so strange to say, when I captured a enemy's trebuchet, and moved it into my border, it can be upgraded to cannon. But the other trebuchets I produced earlier in the same tile, can not to be upgraded. ( It happens on my beta3, but I guess the bug is sill there on beta4.5 if you not touch it. )

I will try debuging it myself.

sorry cannot upload file just now i an on my mobile net

Playing 1.6 beta 4.5 and the error info i type in is from the python log. Also i noticed someone further up the page with a similar python log.

Lastly i an also having problems with the espionage screen, showing only 1 of the 4 civs i have meet and also the exit option at the bottom of the screen is missing.
