You are officially amazing, Afforess
Was I Unofficially Amazing before this?
One question regarding dark ages - it appears that they can override golden ages, as I was only 4 turns through a golden age and suddenly a message came up saying my golden age had ended and another saying my dark age had begun. Not sure if it is supposed to work like this?
Really? That should not be happening. Golden Ages get priority. I need to check that.
Also, is there a minimum period of time between when dark ages can occur? I seemed to be getting them one after another for a while, but only for a short number of turn each time.
No. There is no minimum delay. If you fail to correct the circumstances for the dark age, expect to repeat it.
I can definitely confirm that dark ages can happen to many civs all at once. It was quite common in my game to have lots of messages come up one after the other within the same turn stating that several civs had started a dark age.
I wonder if it would be possible to add an icon in the top right for dark ages like the coin the shows up when you are in a golden age? Not essential by any means, but sometimes it can be difficult to remember whether you are currently in a dark age or not!
I'm no artist. If someone would design me an icon, I'd add it.
My only other comment would be that dark ages seem to happen a little too often; certainly a lot more than golden ages. In a game with 10 civs playing, at least one of them was almost always in a dark age, and sometimes many.
IDK, sounds like the real world to me...
Seriously though, Dark Ages is a major change and will need lots of changes before it becomes perfectly balanced. In all honesty, I was very tempted to hide the game option from everyone so I could get the Beta into an Official release without all this talk.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and nice one for adding Blue Marble! You will all become one... with AND.
Resistance is Futile!
gamespeedinfo: marathon is still on 1400 (I change it everytime to 1500) I´m sure you just forgot about...
Yep. I realized this about 15 minutes after I uploaded it.
and I still have no wondermovies. It´s not dramatic because it is only aesthetic, but you know...
... that Aesthetics are everything? Yeah. I thought it was because of some python bug, I need to look further into it.
I hope this helps. This problem in beta7 happened on multiplayer hotseat, but probably the error log file is the same. If not, tell me what to upload.
Nope, that's the correct file, thanks!
I've noticed that a Dark Age always seems to happen as soon as a civ ends its Golden Age. Well, let me explain. I started out with just one civ, me the glorious English empire. As civs have appeared and organized, they go into their golden ages, then as soon as that finishes, they revert to a Dark Age. A little severe, don't you think? I have a pretty good empire going (7 cities) and have yet to have a Dark Age. I think I will start a golden age to see if it happens to me as well.
This is an intentional mechanic. Let me explain:
Dark Ages can not occur until you meet one of two requirements:
- Research Fundamentalism
- Or have your first Golden Age
Whichever comes first allows you to get a Dark Age. So often times, after meeting either requirement, you've accrued enough Dark Age points in the early game to set one off immediately.
Agreed, there seems to be some sort of correlation between the two. As I mentioned above, I actually had a golden age interrupted by a dark age at one point!
No just a correlation; causation!
I just forced a golden age using world builder. As soon as it ended I went into a dark age. The effect doesn't seem too traumatic, though. Personally, I think in a Dark Age that the wonders should stop working, although I'm not sure that could be made to happen. It would affect the human player most, since I'm sure we all build more wonders than the AI.
Why would a Dark Age stop wonders? IMHO, I'm worried I made Dark Ages too harsh.
I think the dark age thing is much too harsh... As others here described it starts immediately after the golden age and since 300 turns my empire is in dark age. as soon it ends, it starts the next turn again. it just sucks.
I like the concept but it must be drastically limited.
There are ways to avoid Dark Ages. I added a new Civilopedia Article for it, with lots of detail.
However, I'm going tweak Dark Ages a bit. They shouldn't happen for some turns after a Golden Age and Dark Ages shouldn't loop endlessly as much.
