A New Dawn Beta Builds

Thanks Aff...
Try sleeping every once in a while Doctors orders.

I do... sometimes. If you check, my post count is usually 0 during 2 am - 9 am ET. ;) If I don't have insomnia anyway. Sometimes, thinking up a new way to solve a problem keeps me awake... :p

Alright, let's see if I can't be of more help ;)

Here is my logs folder from our latest OOS. The game was going well and then it started happening every turn again.

http://www.doshaus.com/files/Logs.7z

I hope 7zip files are okay. If not I can RAR or ZIP. Included in the logs folder is a screenshot of our settings.

7z is fine, but I need logs from ALL the computers, not just one. I can't solve a MP issue with only 1 datapoint. ;)

Has there been some major change done to the research speed? On Marathon mode, it's 596 BC, around the time the Jews should be expecting to pay their next tribute to Nebuchadnezzer, the Spartans and Athenians are fighting again, and huge armies are rampaging around the Middle East...

... and in my game, I'm just starting to research Animal Husbandry, and have only two soldiers---a javelineer and a club-wielding warrior.

I've never been this far behind before. Is this a change in the mod, or some sort of sluggishness in research caused by increased difficulty level?

You already missed it. We decided to axe the date. Read up, mid way in page 55-57.

I thought that that wasn't a done deal, yet?

The date might be gone, but the research rates are still imbalanced. When beta 11 comes out I plan on running a standard game and documenting how long it takes to reach each era.

Posts like AndarielHalo's only further my resolve.

Let me translate what he really meant to say:

"1/4 of the turns have passed in my game but I've only researched 1/20th of the techs."

Please do. I've tweaked the rates for beta11 a bit, trying to make the Ancient Era go a bit quicker.

Well, I hope we can easily switch the date back on. Matching my progress to the date is part of the fun of Civilisation!

hey there,

First of all i want to say thanks for all the work you've been putting into this mod :)

Currently running RoM 1.81 + AND 1.6 Beta 10.

When i installed AND 1.6 i did not check the resource depletion modmod, but one of my silver resources just disappeared about 200 turns into the game :(

I know this has already been reported, but since there's no new AND version up just yet i was wondering if you could point me in the right direction so i could make a quick fix for this until you release a new version.

Also, any way i can remove the mountaineering tech from the tree if i'm not using the usable mountains option ? The AI keeps researching it and trying to trade it to me despite it not actually doing anything.

Strange, I enabled logging on the other PC this morning and the same save game that was causing an OOS every turn now causes none.

I went for 10 turns to see if it was just around the corner but no go so far.

It might have been something the other player did since it's just me running both PC's right now.
I guess if we get an OOS it'll have to wait until later.

I don't understand. And I point to That Guy's statement as what I mean in terms of gameplay rather than history---1/4th of the game has passed and I've only gotten 1/20th of the technology done.

This was similar in my last game, where I was extremely backward and primitive by 1 AD, barely finishing monotheism and iron working, and then by 1900 AD, I had nanotechnology underway and cured cancer.

My problem isn't so much a lack of syncing up with the dates (though that is a problem that makes me cry), but it's the linear advancement of technologies---every game is exactly the same, where every technology progresses at the same slow rate, so every game essentially renders Warriors useless (save for exploration and city defense), Axemen and Spearmen useless, Macemen pointless wastes of space, and the only real battles and wars taking place between nations occurring in the late Medieval era and early Gunpowder era, with everything else being against random Barbarians spawning near my resources and pissing me off with new ways of spawning just out of reach of my defensive units to completely destroy my capital city or six of my mines because despite it being 10 BC, I don't have Monarchy so all my roads are dirt trails which are just slightly better than no roads at all.

Then you are doing it wrong. Play on a smaller map with more civilizations. You'll be fighting lots of early battles for space. It's a ton of fun. Everyone says Larger maps are more fun, but I actually think maps larger than standard just get tedious and the micromanagement gets old fast.

Small maps mean your decisions matter, and you won't have to micromanage 20 cities.

It was on a "Huge" map. I can't go any smaller :( Everything below it is too small

BUT! I:love:50civs/Gigantic :D or I will once I rig Civ to a Mac Pro :yumyum:

Sorry if this error was posted before:

Beta10, probably when a Civ changes it's leader I lately get this python error:

Kind of a stupid question... so stupid, I completely forgot it. BRB with question...

Oh yes, how do you move the Chop forest ability back? Having it at Iron working is not only horrendously inaccurate, but makes the game incredibly ridiculously difficult at the start.
