A New Dawn Beta Builds

I actually just maximized it---there's no difference at all in the speed in Giant or Gigantic mode. Even on Marathon mode. Even Large-size maps are sluggish in Snail mode once I get into the Classical era.

I think my speeds are mixed up---is Marathon mode the one with 1500 turns, or is that Epic mode?

That question probably depends on your computer.

No. It doesn't. Afforess and the others essentially told me that. My computer is extremely high-end.

Another really stupid question: When can we expect to be able to play a game with a Gigantic map on Marathon speed or higher without it being a marathon wait between turns?

No. It doesn't. Afforess and the others essentially told me that. My computer is extremely high-end.

Witty Response: September 1st, coincidently, when Civ5 releases.

Real Response: Uh, Never? Seriously, Civ4 BTS without mods isn't that fast. On a gigantic map, late game turns into 20-30 second turns too. Each higher map size increases the number of calculations the game has to do exponentially. You make some sacrifices when playing RoM & AND, one of them being turn times. Buy a second monitor, surf the web, that's what I do. (Netflix Instant View & Civ4 FTW!)

Actually, it is more like one minute, or close to it one or another way. That is a nice speed, imo. In the old days, there had been a turn speed of 2-3 minutes in Industrial Era :shiver:.

They do. They mean that you will win 91 of 100 battles. The one you experienced was one of the remaining 9..... :p

Seriously, I don't like to lose 90> battles either. But this must happen from time to time.
Sorry.

1.) Yeah, the odds are correct. Sid Meier Actually talked about this at GDC, I believe, and he said even if the odds are in the players favor, the players feel cheated when they lose in a fair toss. It's a misconception of probability that many people have; and a big reason why "Negative Features" (aka Dark Ages, Diseases) will never work; players will feel cheated, even when the odds are in their favor, and the random numbers are fair.

2.) I seriously need to debug that... The Fog of War system in Civ4 is needlessly complex (from a programming perspective) IMHO, and hard to work with.

suck it up man, it basically says you have 9/10 chance to win not 10/10

Thx alot for answering, i really appreciate it.;)

A wizard is never wrong. He says precisely what he means to.

Added to dossier

End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it...

Even though I'm not Pippin and I come from another story ;) I really do appreciate
the beauty of you answer :)

Thx alot for answering, i really appreciate it.

Always a pleasure :yeah:

I still read paperbacks, you know. I have plenty of those :)

Your FAQ is a lying sack of :):):):)ing :):):):):):):):). I'm getting the error with the "Failed loading XML" file, followed by an unending error of pretty much every single custom unit file.

I re-installed RoM and AND many times. I can load RoM2.9 alone fine, but with AND, it doesn't at all.

Fix that :):):):)ing :):):):):):):):) FAQ, because it is unbelievably infuriating to search for this issue, and find that smug piece of :):):):) FAQ saying "Well clearly you're an idiot who installed it in the wrong directory"

No I didn't. What now?

I've just remembered some issues from my last game, which I've played on 1.70 beta 2 - I haven't seen them being reported here or in the feedback and bugs thread, so even though they may have been fixed I couldn't see the harm in posting them.
1. "Motersports" - a typo. Normally those don't bother me that much (well, except when people mess up "your"/"you're" or "their"/"there"/"they're", but I digress), but this one's right there in the tech tree and, if I'm not mistaken, has been there for some time now.
2. The Shopping District requires the supermarket to be built before being constructed, and so does the Hypermarket. If you build the district first and the hypermarket second, there's no problem, but if you build the hypermarket first it replaces the supermarket and you'll be unable to build the district. RoM itself may be at fault here, but since I don't play it without AND I couldn't tell, and so I'm reporting it here.
3. Some of the shields you get with building the national shield wonder get hillariously large models, with no real reason as to why certain cities get such large shields that they encompass all workable area of the city (and sometimes much, much more), while others just get enough shielding to graphically only cover the city itself. It looks kind of cool, so it may not actually be a bug, but then again it messes with the graphics for towns and can get annoying when trying to construct improvements around the edges of the shield graphic. Again, this may be an issue with RoM itself.

And by hillariously large I mean, well, just look at them: http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/4007/shiel.jpg

What's with the continental shield?

You are using Megapack Civ's, right? I told you, they are not compatible. Uninstall them.

1.) Okay, I got that corrected.
2.) Upgrade paths; awesome. I'll fix that.
3.) That has to do with RoM, pretty funny stuff.

I did get these before, but only when I had made a typo while changing a file. Other than that, I've got nothin'.

NO I'M NOT!!!! I JUST SAID I REINSTALLED ROM2.9 AND AND1.70 MULTIPLE TIMES! FRESH CLEAN INSTALLS, NO EXTRAS, NO MEGACIVPACK (Even if I did install the MegaCiv pack, it's NEVER done that before)

I've altered NO files in doing so. I literally deleted my entire Rise of Mankind folder when it was modded up with the MegaCiv pack, dropped the base 2.9 Rise of Mankind folder, and installed 1.70 beta11 over it. I then tried installing the beta10, then tried installing the beta10 and the beta11 one after the other.

RoM2.9 loads without issue

How about actually installing the 1.7 full release instead?
