A New Dawn on Earth and the Space Adventure

Just run a very short test game and my plains, river side tiles at the capital were generating 3 food. What is that about?

I did a short game that I abandoned because I lost time to play it thoroughly. It could be a flood-plain-plain. I had a couple of those. My understanding is that cities may get much, much bigger in this mod, especially since there is the potential for a third ring. Its almost a completely different game so you can't necessarily play the same way as standard BTS.

That would be answer to my test runs flood plains unhappiness starting position.

I don't think that is it. While I only mentioned the riverside plains tile ... every tile seemed to have +2 food. I had plains wheat with 8 food. I think it was something to do with my buildings ... or civics ... who knows?
Spoiler :
Medi-eval stage start

I opened an auto save and the game said it was 'plains/flood plains' all along the river. It is an Earth map and I started in southern Africa. I could build a worker in 5 turns ... super fast.

What level are we playing at? Nobel? Prince? Monarch? This effects things. It's not clear, unless I missed it.

I am travelling and I will return today or tomorrow (saturday or sunday). Then I will check your informations/questions.

So I've played a short test game to see how exactly the BUG menu affects the gameplay. It seems that while the REVDCM tab acts like in LoR, that is everything hardcoded to default options in multiplayer, two other tabs containing settings that affect all players aren't like that. Some of these settings can apparently be changed by every single player during their turn and even affect others, while some can only be changed by the host and are locked for all other players.

This leads me to two possible conclusions:

1. The developers of this mod couldn't care less about Multiplayer and know even less about PBEM.

or

2. The developers did think this through thoroughly and all these seemingly chaotic options make some sense that I just have been unable to discern.

There's no need to test for the combat effects feature as that option is preset for MP in the REVDCM tab so we wouldn't be able to change it even if we wanted to unless we create a new minimod just for this game.

As one of the developers of the BUG mod, I can say with certainty that the mod was designed for SP games. Some minor consideration was given to MP games to the extent that the suggestion was not to use BUG for MP ... or if you have to ... set the options to the same (honour system!).

In the end, BUG (BtS Unaltered Gameplay) was aiming at unaltered game play so having different options set for MP wouldn't change the game play ... just the level of information flowing to the player(s).

We aren't playing unrestricted leader?

If we aren't ... then Henry the VIII of England (I guess).

Hi guys! Sorry for the delay! I was travelling, but now, I am back! Let's discuss some things.

We aren't playing unrestricted leader?

If we aren't ... then Henry the VIII of England (I guess).

Ruff, this option will not be used, and Academia was the first to choose England.

What level are we playing at? Nobel? Prince? Monarch? This effects things. It's not clear, unless I missed it.

Hercules, we will play with noble level.

Just out of interest will the starts be balanced or just random.

On Earth2 map we haven't the option to choose that, and the start positions will be completely random.

Q: What is the anarchy rules in this mod? I see spiritual gets max of 2 turns of anarchy. Do non-spiritual players get longer?

Based on my limited experience other civs don't suffer longer anarchy from switches per se, it's just that there's so many more civics so you'll switch more often between them.

Wasn't it an agricultural leader?

To the last nine quotes above, my comments are: we must learn the new universe of the mod with the new rules and concepts. "Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn" is practically a new game different from BTS.

I played the mod for some few turns only and I myself have to learn many things yet. But still I was delighted with the mod and its features.

I'll test whether the combat terrain effects thingy is buggy for PBEMs in this mod too, based on that we'll decide whether to activate or deactivate that option.

...

Wait a minute, aren't some of those options in the BUG menu instead of the setup screen? If so we can't choose anyway as those are all preset for multiplayer to prevent OOS issues.

To the last three quotes above, my comments are: Everyone must have the following same (identical) files: "GlobalDefinesAlt.xml" and "RevolutionDCM.ini", so I will to edit the quoted files with the configurations that we want and I will send it to you. Then, everything you have to do is to copy the files to the correct folder.

I believe that procedure will allow us to play the game without no major problems.

I have some doubts yet, about (if we must activate or deactivate) the following options:

1. Permanent Alliances - What is this? What are the effects of activation?

2. Limited Religions - Must we activate or deactivate?

3. Unlimited Wonders - Must we activate or deactivate?

Please send me your opinions about the itens 2 and 3 and some explanation about the item 1.

bah! Augustus of Rome!

#1 means that you can form a team with another player later in the game.

I have no idea about #2 and #3 and, depending on what they mean, I may want to change my leader selection.

Unlimited Wonders option already explained on the previous post.

Limited Religions option ensures that one civilization will have one religion only, so it increases the number of civilizations with religions.

Can you explain with more details the Permanent Alliances option? What are the effects or consequences of a Permanent Alliance?

Have you read up on BtS team play? Impacts are ...
- VCs are shared
- tech costs increase (<2x)
- there are others, but they don't jump out at the moment

I would disable it.
