Hey everybody
first of all, i know what you're thinking, "posts: 1" yes this is my first post but im a long time visiter, first time poster! (especially of the civ 3 scenarios section!)

Anyway, those of you who did Microeconomics will remember elasticities. I am studying the cross-elasticities of demand betweern petrol and public transport, and need a lot of data from surveys to start creating correlations etc for a research paper.

if anyone out there takes public transport to work or school and would be willing to take a couple of minutes to fill it in it would be of great use to me,

please respond on the thread, or if u want, u can private message me

please note that all prices are in australian dollars, if this makes any particular question hard, just skip it
Also, the subway and some other forms of public tranport weren't mentioned as they aren't in my city (Adelaide, Australia)
cheers!

Moderately Aware.

1. How many motor vehicles do you own?
Zero.

(where's question #2)?

3. How often do you use PUBLIC transportation?
Not at all right now. When I lived in Miami I used it a few tmes a week, in New York I used it multiple times daily.

[
4. For how long have you been using PUBLIC transportation?
I've used public transportation (on and off) since about thirteen. Since birth if you count the times I used it with my folks.

[
5. If BUS ticket prices were increased by 20% (increase from $3.50 to $4.20 for a regular single-trip ticket or from $22.90 to $27.50 for a regular multi-trip ticket) how would this affect your method of transportation?
I base my travel somewhat on prices. Ususally I fly because flight is cheaper AND faster than ground travel (for long distances). If train fares were somehow cut in half (which I doubt) I might take a train (though probably never a bus) across the country to New York or Florida).

[6. If BUS ticket prices were increased by 50% (increase from $3.50 to $5.25 for a regular single-trip ticket or from $22.90 to $34.30 for a regular multi-trip ticket) how would this affect your method of transportation?
See above.

[7. If fuel prices decreased by 20% over the next two months (change from $1.30 to $1.04 for regular unleaded) and continued at this price how would this affect your method of transportation?
It is not likely fuel prices will drop 20%. Even if they did I have no intention of ever buying a vehicle that runs on fossil fuels. To be specific my next car will be one that runs on diesel fuel. I will then convert the engine to run on vegetable oils.

[8. How aware are you of daily fuel price changes?
I am fairly aware of them because my girlfriend drives and because I am curious. Mostly curiosity now that her job pays for her fuel (within reason).

Good luck with your paper. :)

By the way, if you're wondering how I get around I ususally ride a bike and occasionally ride with my girlfriend.

shopdaddy, how did you come up with such a weird idea as first post ?

yes i can imagine this sounds strange...
i am doing a 400 word thesis on the relationship between fuel prices and use of public transportation, as part of measuring the 'elasticity' i need to find the %change in bus usage and compare it to the % change in fuel prices

to do this i created this survey and using your responses i count how many people change their habits due to a 20% increase in prices, etc...
this is also an easy and effective way of collecting many responses

anyway, as for a first post, over the past two years i have mainly used the forums to get new scenarios to play for civ 3
so basically i never really had time to post as i was so busy trying to beat the game on emperor difficulty!!!!

does this mean altogether? in Uni (and the time before UNI) I took public transport, but my first job after Uni (basically all of 2005) I went by car, since january 06 I once again take public transportation. so I guess it's +5 years

whatever happened with Question 2?

Considering that I do not take Public transport, I cannot take this.

and yeah if you dont take public transport at all then you will probably find that most of these questions will make it difficult for you to answer or wont apply to you

thanks guys, keep the responses coming!! :)
