A Tamils Game

C'mon guys, don't be jealous of his luck, I enjoy it anyways ... from my experience nothing beats the anger when one finally rules out a great Greece start and Babylon builds The Oracle 3 turns later :D I really hate how Babylon always completes The Pyramids and The Oracle instead of Hanging Gardens and The Ishtar Gate.

Fresol, while on the Indian subcontinent, how about India next? - 1 won it's UHV once on 1.12, could be interesting with the recent map changes.

True. The fun fact is that only when you want to make a story all unlucky or all lucky things happen. I saw a video on youtube about Babylon (in vanilla RFC) and he founded Confucianism from a goodie hut!

Yeah, I even "discovered" Astronomy by poping a goodie hut at Cuba while playing as Spanish and exploring with Caravel about 1300AD, til the first non-Spanish galleon arrived, mine's was all America's land

Most powerful civilizations of the world FYI.

At 800 AD we declare war on Indonesia and take Palembang. From my past experience, 6 swordsmen with City Raider promotion should be able to take out Indonesia.

We take Tumasik and raze it. It has no food resource in the first ring so it wouldn't grow. Razing it is not a good idea, but I don't really care at the moment.

The only city left is defenseless Banjar. The AI makes questionable choice for city placement.

Selling Aesthetics for :gold:.

We are already in control of Srivijaya.

India sounds interesting, I haven't tried it after the map change. Time is the limiting factor though, don't expect too much.

The fall of Banjar marks the end of the short-lived Kingdom of Srivijaya. We are 1 turn away from receiving the second GM.

Our GM Shah Jahan is born in Anuradhapura. He'll reach Haojing in 4 turns. His trade mission will in effect conclude our game.

We keep on conquering the indie cities in Northern India. Finally there are some workers to capture.

There are some forests to chop near Indraprastha, so I decide to build a wonder or two. Tamils really has terrible wonder cost modifier, every wonder is expensive. The Shwedagon Paya needs 450:hammers:. I'd rather build the Borobudur with 400:hammers:, but we have no stone.

Another pair of barb swordsmen. I'm hiring horse archers because they move faster.

Creating fishing boats. Nothing important.

Another Hindu wedding.

Spreading Hinduism. There's no holy shrine though.

Meeting Japan. I like how on Regent you don't get all those diplomatic penalties.

We also meet Korea.

With India gone, the :gold: we have hoarded can be spent elsewhere.

We are stable and well.

I'm just trying to get a better score through researching more techs. I have no specific goal in mind. Crossbows can be helpful in killing the barb swordsmen.

The Chinese are doing fairly well! They have Guilds already. Look at the Great Wall, they built it without Zhongdu.

Shah Jahan conducts another trade mission.

We have effectively won the game, since both India and Indonesia cannot respawn during this time period. Usually one conquers the Deccan much slower than this time, but 20 turns(starting at 800 AD) should be enough with all the mercenaries you can hire.

We proceed to take Lavapuri.

Then Pataliputra.

And we raze Kolkata, just because it has too few tiles to work.

Our GG Chandragupta Maurya. Feels kind of strange.

With stone from Arabia, we can build Borobudur now.

The banana icon blocks the city name so I can't read it. :p This city only has a symbolic meaning, because the game is going to end soon.

We take the city of Balkh from the independents.

It has the Mausoleum of Mausollos inside! But too late, we aren't going to have more Golden Ages.

The Borobudur is finished in Indraprastha. I think Japan finished the Shwedagon Paya a few turns ago.

This screenshot is irrelevant. I just want to point out settling on the gold seem to be the better spot than the normal "Manila" spot. Also there's some bug in tile yield display after the golden age.

Gunpowder is the second-to-last tech we get.

And we hurry the Wat Preah Pisnulok in Indraprastha. The +1 population conveniently makes up for the lost population through forced labor.

Finally the victory!

A smooth game shouldn't take too long. I had compact play time, but I spent a bit too much time on each turn thinking about what to do next, hence the 4.5 hours.

Continue. You are extremely lucky in this game, but continue. On conquest you get extra culture, did you get extra gold as well?

Extra culture and gold, yes. But I planned it so that even without these additions, the 1st goal could be achieved in time. I also used several hundred gold in tech trades and that should be counted too.

I'm gonna necro the heck out of this thread but hey, it might be useful for people who wanna know how to play the Tamils on the current version of DoC (latest git commit, 1.16. I said 1.81 before but that was wrong). I took some inspiration from Fresol's playthrough and decided to try my luck on Heir (Regent actually). Founded my capital on the gold just like Fresol, in addition to the Sri Lankan city on the iron. India was weak when I spawned, flipped that one barb city off them, can't remember the name. Then I conquered Visakhapatnam with my starting units (got some extra units due to India's war declaration, very convenient). I ended up founding two more cities on the subcontinent, one below the gems on the west coast and one further up that coast which has rice, double cotton and horses. Switched to Despotism and Manorialism. Tech-wise I beelined Artisanry, starting with Currency before getting the other prereq. Switched to Merchant Economy right away upon discovering Currency. Upon discovering Artisanry, I put my science slider to 0 and pushed up the culture slider as far as I could without losing money. I did this until gathering the 2000 culture, after which I turned off culture and went 100% gold. In the cities I built/whipped workboats and basic food infrastructure, interspersed with some spears to defend against marauding elephants, and the two settlers for the remaining subcontinental cities. I also built a pair of extra workers. This was followed by markets, and the capital and Visakhapatnam ran merchants. I sent the first great merchant to the Persian capital for 1800 gold. The remaining 1200 gold I produced myself. When Pagan spawned, it was empty and I captured it with an elephant. Idle, high-production cities built barracks and swordsmen for the conquest of Indonesia. As recommended by Fresol, I sent six city-raider two swordsmen (right, I switched to Conquest after trading for Generalship) and easily conquered all three of their cities, two of which were located on the mainland (razed one of them). For the third goal, I checked F8 and it turned out that I had already accumulated about 2700 gold from trade. So then it was just waiting for the second GM which I also sent to Persepolis for 1800 gold. The rest was just waiting until 1000 AD, while doing some random teching, tech trading and building any kind of building that made sense. Augustus Caesar in 1010 AD. All in all, this UHV was a breeze on Heir.

Edit: I was playing on Regent actually. I thought Regent was the first difficulty level, followed by Heir, but then realized it's the other way around.
