AA03: DeGaulle's Aggressive Adventures

Didn't look at the save. JC looks like he is close enought to be axerushed properly. If we build the GW first this might be a little issue, but probabely worth some thoughts. Agressive JC with praets closeby is scary.

wow ~ did we start in the middle of nowhere or what! Where do we even stick our 2nd city??

good turns, Beserks ~ I'm guessing BronzeWorking next to see if we can axerush anyone at all. Even on monarch, this start might've been trouble.

Well, someone asked where we'd put our cities - I have a suggestion (not for 2nd but for 3rd of 4th):

Note the 2 flood plains corn  !

We meet Asoka.

I've abandoned the plan of Axe-rushing - I don't think it would work. Instead I stayed on the Archery path with BW afterwards. And I think i was right:

Mehmed shows up...

This map script generator does some funny things...

We#re officially forgotten. Hopefully our opponents will forget us as well...

The Celts get an event (which gives free Combat I to Archery units IIRC):

The situation at the end of my set (after 30 turns):

I've mined and worked the hills, the GW is only 12 turns away. However there are 2 barbs incoming, they can reach the city in 2 turns. The warrior finishes in 3, so we'll have two if they attack. We should hold fine. BW in 6.

nice quite turns there.

 @ FP-corns. What freaky kind of map is that? I'll have to play some non-fractal games sometime soon, looks like fun ;)

I'm fine with the save route (archery). I think if we don't settle agressively towards JC (we do have alternatives) we should be relatively safe. We could eventually use him as a pet dog, if the chance arrives (to backstab him later  :backstab:).

ph-man is up!

Hmmm ... I thought there should be at least one food resource in a starting location ... this the worst start I have ever seen ... somewhat compensated by the floodplains, but still ... there better be copper in our BFC, else :trouble:

The barbs should be heading for pillage first. We should hold the first wave, but it is the second and subsequent waves that worries me.

--

@Fox:

We'll have the GW in 12 - so no worries there...

Lurking

If barbs pillage the mines you might need to revise your estimate for completing great wall.

this the worst start I have ever seen
my games seem to attract horrendous starts somehow . . .

good turns, Im ~ after BW, AH for ourselves??

also, after GW, i think settlers are in order, no? Here's hoping something turns up close by for a stellar 2nd city.

I've got it, but won't play until tomorrow at least, might need all 48 hrs to post the report ~

How's this for a dot map?

Yellow could also be 1S. It's the best land we have, the rest are just deserts for now. Copper and/or Iron will change it a little if they don't appear within any of the borders.

My set was counting down the turns to the Great Wall as our duo fended off repeated barb attacks.

Since a picture’s worth a thousand words, and I don’t have any pics:
While defending in the wild, Scout (0.40/1) defeats Barbarian Lion (Prob Victory: 96.2%)
While defending in French territory at Paris, Warrior I (Warrior) (2.00/2) defeats Barbarian Warrior (Prob Victory: 99.0%)
While defending in the wild, Scout loses to Barbarian Archer (2.52/3) (Prob Victory: 0.5%)
While defending in French territory at Paris, Warrior I (Warrior) (1.04/2) defeats Barbarian Archer (Prob Victory: 86.5%)
While defending in French territory at Paris, Warrior 1st of Paris (Warrior) (1.28/2) defeats Barbarian Archer (Prob Victory: 67.4%)
While defending in French territory at Paris, Warrior I (Warrior) (1.32/2) defeats Barbarian Archer (Prob Victory: 74.6%)
While defending in French territory at Paris, Warrior 1st of Paris (Warrior) (0.88/2) defeats Barbarian Warrior (Prob Victory: 99.0%)
While defending in French territory at Paris, Warrior I (Warrior) (2.00/2) defeats Barbarian Warrior (Prob Victory: 99.2%)
While defending in French territory at Paris, Warrior I (Warrior) (1.70/2) defeats Barbarian Archer (Prob Victory: 95.1%)
While defending in French territory at Paris, Warrior 1st of Paris (Warrior) (0.30/2) defeats Barbarian Archer (Prob Victory: 74.6%)
While defending in French territory at Paris, Warrior I (Warrior) (1.70/2) defeats Barbarian Warrior (Prob Victory: 96.7%)

Stonehenge was BIDL, and as soon as BW came in, I revolted to slavery to whip that wall. The assault was almost never-ending. When 2 citizens were ready to die for the cause:

I started on an archer next, while I waited for Animal Husbandry to finish.

I stopped here at 2200 bc. I chose Writing next, but only as a place holder. I’m not sure where we need to go next. Here’s a couple of maps, blank first:

Boy, did WE ever get the shaft on this start! I guess the RNGod really wanted to test us after the first two AA games. On the bright-side, starting in “texas” means we’ll probably control all the oil . . . if we make it that far.

And with respect to the distinguished berserks, another dotmap, this time with copper!

I like red dot next for the obvious metal. We have some choices to make in the near-term as well, but I imagine we expand like crazy and try for any and every spot we can in this wasteland. Writing, libraries and scientists might help with research while we expand, especially if we settle those flood plain cities after Red Dot.

lurker's comment: I am curious why red and light green on off river sacrificing health and long-term dikes. With the amount of river squares, dikes we give an awesome production boast.

I agree this is a rough start.

mainly i chose red and green where they were so as to make use of the crummy citytile they are placed on. dikes are something that i seldom think about as of yet when settling cities.

How about my dotmap? We can move blue 1N to get the copper.

Got it.

I also prefer berserkers' dotmap.

Settle yellow > green/brown > blue?

Tech: Both pottery and Writing are fine. Writing to start some GPP and keep health alive. I don't think we'll need cottages atm to keep us in the green @ 0% (with all those rivertiles and the silver) so I'm for Writing > Pottery.

Playing in 3-5hrs.

Blue should be settled first for the copper. Yellow is right smack in between us and JC, so I'd leave that last and hope that JC will settle it for us.

I think we should go with berserks01's dotmap. The access to dikes and fresh water is a greater gain than the loss of one unworkable tile. The order should be blue > pink > green, agreed. As for tech order I agree too that we should head for Pottery ASAP. Getting those cottages going on the FP as fast as possible is crucial. I think the Wall will prove one of the best wonders on this map - as production is low and barbs are many... at least WE can now settle the land unmolested.

Didn't see your comments guys, played before 12 PM :p

Played 24 turns, 2200BC - 1600BC

Inherited turn
Switch research to Pottery. Not that we really need it atm. I know why you shouldn't build early wonders: 1 city, 1 worker, 2 Warriors @ 2200 BC isn't enought.

(5) 2025BC
OB with Hammy, Mao
Mao has ABC  (but lacks the wheel :p)

(13) 1875BC
Pottery in > Writing

(16) 1800BC
Archer finally done, start settler

(19) 1725BC
OB with Mehmed

Spot roman city near yellow dot

(24) 1600BC
Writing in > Mysticism
Judaism FIDL. Watch who converts and eventually close borders (currently the only AI with a SR is Asoka, hindu).

---

I stopped here. Should've stopped earlier maybe... It was just some boring turns with no events.

We can OB with some more civs now we have writing ourselves.

Settler due in 11, GSpy in 47.

We must get our more settlers + workers asap. BTW our cap sucks.

Improvements only finish slowly (stupid floodplains).

Our hope atm is that the AI has just as crappy land :D

I think after copper city, we should get those FPcities up (green + brown). These are likely the best non-cap city spots. Worker was busy mining the Gems (no road yet..)

can you repost your dotmap then, to make sure we're all on the same page.

good turns, mysty ~ and i suspect WE have the crappiest land around, hands down. We didn't even get the cow/horse bonanza that you get in the middle of the plains.

I say we keep expanding like crazy, as much as we can right now. We need any sort of good city we can find, i think. Are those signs in game from beserks' map??
