anyone have any ideas?

He is definitely not Imperalistic or Aggressive. Protective or Expansive is not very likely. He is more likely to be Industrious, Organized, Charismatic, maybe Creative. I think he will be Industrious and Charismatic if there is no new trait.

Protective and Organized/Industrious/Financial

Protective for keeping the Union and whatever other trait you think describes his terms best.

My guess is charismatic and philosophical.

I doubt it would be spiritual. He really doesn't seem like the spiritual type.

What about his favorite civic? Gotta be Emancipation, I imagine...

Gotta be protective/organized.
Favorite civ, emancipation of course. And his AI will be a worker.

No consensus so far.

I'll say Charismatic/Industrious. Industry won the war for the North. Charismatic as he is known for his oration.

Cha/Ind sounds about right. Lincoln wasn't a very spiritual man and there was plenty of unrest and anarchy in the north during his presidancy. I can't really think of any traits that would fit him better, although his favorite trait may not be emancipation. He said as he took the office that he'd keep slavery before he let the union split, but it did anyways so he emancipated the slaves in the seceded states out of spite.

Wow , never knew that. So his favourite civic could conceivably be Nationhood?

I like Cha/Ind for him too BTW.

Charismatic, definately. Famous speeches fit the word, and his excellent war leadership fit the trait functions.

I would personally advocate philosophical for the second trait. I don't like industrious because even though it was an immense advantage for the north during the war, this is about the leader. Charismatic/Industrious sounds more like Teddy Roosevelt.

I say charismatic/industrious, not merely because this is how I implemented him but because this combo makes most sense to me. He is definitely charismatic - that's pretty obvious. Industrious comes because of the industrial advantage of the North, like Quagga said. Furthermore, industrious/charismatic is a cross between Washington and Roosevelt, who are charismatic / expansive and industrious / organized - appropriate for a leader set "in between" the other two.

The Emancipation Proclomation was not mainlt to free the slaves, but to turn the slaves against the Southerners and make the slaves feel powerful - which was key to victory.
Also, Lincoln wasn't against slavery. The war wasn't fought for slavery, it was fought for economy. If the North lost the South, a huge chunk of land, people, and economy would have gone missing, which Lincoln did not want.
History books are lies.

Also, Charismatic/Industrious seems very likely, for the reasons stated in Gaius's post. \o/

i agree with Cha/Ind. and if those are his traits i would love him because those are two of my favorites traits

Yes, Lincoln declared the Emancipation Proclaimation as a military advantage because some slaves were already fleeing their masters and assisting Union forces. Lincoln also saw that the freeing of the slaves would collapse the Southern economy, as it did. But, still, this does mean that his favorite Civic won't be Emancipation, which I can all but guarantee it will be.

Regardless of why he gave the Emancipation Proclaimation, it is what he is most well known for. I cannot imagine Civ will make his favorite Civic anything but Emancipation. Of course history is full of lies, but Civ is not concerned with rewriting history.

On another note, the greatest book ever written about the political and economic factors that led to the Civil War and the subsequent periods of Reconstruction and Redemption was written by W.E.B. Du Bois - Black Reconstruction in America: 1860-1880. It would make my day if I can influence just one person to read this...

I'm pretty sure that Honest Abe's favorite civic will be emancipation, as I just can't see them doing anything else. It would cause an uproar if it were, say, nationalism (although it probably will anyway). This is just how people remember Abe Lincoln. Similarly, hereditary rule would probably fit Caesar Augustus better (historically) than representation, but that's not the one that won out.

I agree with this clever theme - linking the American leaders together through traits would be a neat characteristic for the American civ.

Maybe Firaxis should have set it up so that by the time Civ 4 and all its expansions are released, each American president at Mount Rushmore (Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln) would be featured in the game :D.

Edit: THEODORE Roosevelt that is.

The thing about American leaders is that they could pretty much all qualify as being "charismatic" - otherwise they wouldn't have gotten elected :D.

Changed my mind: Protective/Charasmatic. Fav Civic: Nationalism
Protective because of his will to preserve the Union
Charasmatic because, like others said, of his famous speeches and rallying
Nationalism because, again, of his will to preserve the Union

I hope they don't choose Emancipation as his favorite civic. I think most of us are old enough to know what the real score was.
