AbNESII - Technologic Thread

Some have passed the current limits (lack of forsight)

But, as you expand, you will be unable to stop it dropping back down to the limits i have now imposed.

Will we have to invent masonry before paved roads?
edit: nvm, i should have masonry already (w/ my wonder n stuff)

well you know basic masonry.. however paved roads tech? hehe

This is basically completly up to you.. if you at the limit, propose a tech to advance past it.. i will cost it and make it research available to all. Once researched you can trade it etc, whatever you like.

I need to find a way of easily highlighting limited stats for you guys..

i would make it a colour system. Black=fine, blue=limit, red=over limit

yes, but i mean a excel code so i dont have to manually colour everything. There is no way im doing that. Stats are an arse as it is!

Press ctrl+b while typing the /4 part then un-ctrl+b afterwards again? My best suggestion.

EDIT: Lol, if you didn't know that... xD I'm the ignorant person now.

im hoping for something like:

"colour=red"1<C1<3="colour=green" or something.. BJ might be of help here

<-- is faster than Birdy and i see him watching ;)

Bird- Any hints for easing such stats via code? Also, exporting that into a nice textual layout?

Yes, I will post what I do shortly.

OK, I've attached a spreadsheet taken from my current master for the Forge of Empires.

It has three major section moving left to right.

The first is the list of my stat names. If I want to use some vBulletin code for that line, I can place it to the left.

The middle section are the stat values that I've carried from the lines further down the sheet. All those lines and caluclations have been deleted from thois sheet, so you just see number or text. Typically a cell would read "=b54" or something.

The right most section is where the stats are "prepared" for cutting and pasting into the forum. Each row has formulas that pull data from the cells to the left and groups it how I want and adds elements or spaces as needed to produce the final results. I have cut and pasted this section into this post so you can see exactly how the code translates into the post. The color or bolding could be added anywhere. Notice that the 59% is the only bolded part of that line.

Thankyou BJ, i'd not thought of having the stats dancing around elsewhere and arriving and an easily copied/pasted area

Will look closer at the code when i finally instal excel! currently using microsoft works spreadsheet from 2000 :(

proper excell within a few weeks, changed computers an not got my office cd with me.

A tech idea I would like a cost estimate for...

1)Clay masonry. The use of proper clay bricks allows for better roads and building, increasing infrastructure and, possibly, trade. The second benefit I'm not so sure about, kind of up to you.

I'll get to this after the update

Techs:

Sailing - allows coastal boats (4 Eco)
Chain mail - obvious.. better professional armies

..such things?

shouldn't we make a cool tech list in post 3 or such for inspiration to orders?

Certainly. You know the limits currently imposed on your nation, think of techs that would pull you out of that dross, and i'll tell you what it costs.

If you can think of something for each of the limits while i write this update it will help a lot.

Please note that this is used for inspiration and guideline, it's not the rules

Slavery: +2 Industry cap, confidence cap decreased.

Irrigation: Agriculture can go up to 4

Coinage: Trade can grow up to 4

Archery: Allows basic archers in armies

Logistics: Army morale is much better

Warrior Code: Basic army organization, or whatever you call it

Melting: Required for Bronze Working, increases Industry cap by 1

Bronze Working: Spearmen and axemen can be bronze units, weak bronze swordsmen are available. Required for Coinage.

Boat construction: Galley-level boats are available in navies.

War Navies: Triremes and such warships are added to navy unit types

Road paving: Infrastructure can grow beyond Barely Acceptable

Map Making: Size is capped at 5, better naval organization

Code of Laws: Confidence is capped at Respecting

...I can't figure anything out about the pop limit yet...

Some ideas

For the pop limit maybe you could use some sort of town/city planning technique.

Otherwise you could make it agriculture dependant since if you cant feed your population it's not likely to grow.

I'm not sure if we know bridgebuilding yet if not that could be used for infrastructure.

Just a thought but shouldn't agriculture be capped by the size of your empire and quality of land since if someone controlled all of asia they would have massive agricultural production but you would be limited to your cap which atm is 3. Agricultural technologies could then be used to improve your base agriculture. e.g You have 4 base agriculture Researching Irrigation could improve your base agriculture by 25% or something so if you had 4 base agriculture it would add 1 if you had 8 it would add 2 to your overall output.
It's just a thought and it's probably to complex.

The idea of the agriculture cap is that if your population is growing aswell, it just balances out.. as your land is increasing, so are the people eating the food. Thus you need technologys to break that link, meaning the land can produce more than the people need.

Remeber, if you look at your nations currently, you are VERY basic. We are talking the first few turns of a civilization game, you dont mcuh at all. A good barbarian leader can hold together a small nation (size 3) but bigger than that.. well there isnt enough "discovered" civilization to do it... the nation will simply break appart. Infrastructure can't grow.. there is only so much a beaten road can do, only so much irrigation etc... get me?
