Abstinence only works, how moronic

IMO, condoms should be subsidized and freely given out to anyone who wants them. But I'm a freedom-hating commie.
No, you're an agent of Western powers who try to ruin Russia and corrupt her morality:gripe:

It would be fine if your objection was confined to your own children instead of everybody else's as well. After all, I'm pretty sure you would be more than willing to effectively ruin their lives if they ever get pregnant at an early age because it is "morally right" to do so. But what right do you have to do it to others' children?

My own objection was confined to my own kids. But the 'school' is not the parent of other children now is it? Which was the basis of my comment. It is indeed a parents responsibility to dicuss this with their (age appropriate) children, not the schools.

What else is there to explain?

Well, just off the top of my head:

1. Ramfications of being sexually active.
2. Methods and things to avoid if one is determined on abstinence.

I am sure if I really wanted to sit down and think about it I could probably construct a multi-hour presentation on what effective abstinence is, how to implement it effectively in ones life, and the types of situations to avoid in order to continue to be abstinate.

Just as there is more to condom use than learning how to put one on a bannanna, there is more to abstinence as well.

Under that line of thinking, shouldn't we be teaching YIC in classrooms, so the kool kids will rebel and go learn darwinian evolution?

I don't see how that follows at all. Give kids facts, and you can scare them straight. Give them crap, and they act from ignorance.

My belief is that abstinence is simply part of the equation. It shouldnt be exclusive in sex education, but nor should it be excluded. I think it should be given equal weight when being taught to kids. Leave it up to them if they think they want to try that method or not.

Why would we give equal weight to methods that have been proven to be less effective? Shall we give equal weight to homeopathy in medical schools?

Sex is hereditary. Celibacy is not. If your parents never had it, chances are you won't either.

Excellent point. Sex is a Mendelian trait too.

If abstinence works as well as not smoking does for teenagers, then, by personal experience, everybody except me in my Year 11 class was no longer a virgin.

Now you've entirely lost me. What's your point?
You claimed that aimee's idea to tell students to
"GO DO SEX!!!! HAVE SEX!!! IT'LL MAKE YOU PREGNANT!!!!!"
Would reduce teenage pregnancy. I had assumed this was under the premise that teenagers will do the opposite of what you tell them to. If this is not the case, how on earth would telling students to have sex and become pregnant possibly reduce pregnancy rates?

:nope: I want students told that sex will cause pregnancy. And that will make it scary enough to discourage some sex and induce more caution in some other sex.

You see, the bolded part many kids don't learn until it is too late.

...You imagine that abstinence only education doesn't teach that?

That's probably covered in advanced abstinence which is an elective course.

I know it does not. That's been the issue from day one. Abstinence only education does not teach procreation. Only religious values.
I don't know what you're thinking of but every piece of abstinence only material I've ever seen emphasizes exactly that: If you have sex, you will get pregnant, you will get a venereal disease. So don't have sex.
