AG5 - Honorable Space Race

What's up man? Have you fixed your computer? Hope everything is OK.

I got it and will play tonight.

Note I'll be gone for one whole week after this weekend, so I'll probably be skipped next round (but with such a slow pace who knows? ;))

I don't want to go in full detail, but the damaged computer is certainly a part of the story. I don't know when it will be fixed, but I can still run C3C at least (on the old one). The Ultra Huge map may be another story, but we'll see.

Tomorrow will be a civ-less day for me, but after that things should be normalising pretty soon.'

I really want to get this one at full speed, but we were unlucky last week I guess. CarlosMM, Meli and I all had valid reasons.

preturn: switch Hyangsan from spear to warrior due in 5, nothing else.

IBT we connected silks to Wonsan. American starts Pyramids. Greece starts Oracle.

(1)1600BC: zzz

(2)1575BC: zzz

(3)1550BC: zzz

IBT Seoul settler->settler

(4)1525BC: zzz

IBT Pusan worker->worker. Hyangsan warrior->warrior.

(5)1500BC: zzz

(6)1475BC: Ulsan founded in the south. It has gems.

I switch P'yongyang from rax to temple due in 4. I want this to start palace prebuild for us, and it grows to size 4 requiring lux 50%!

(7)1450BC: cheju is size 2 and about to riot, hire a scientist and lit due in 12 instead of 15.

(8)1425BC: zzz

IBT China starts Pyramids.

(9)1400BC: Inch'on founded. England and China have Map Making.

IBT China starts Oracle.

(10)1375BC: America has Map Making too.

IBT P'yongyang temple->granary as prebuild for Great Library.

(11)1350BC: zzz
(12)1325BC: Seoul settler->settler.
(13)1300BC: Silks connected so lux to 20%.
(14)1250BC: whip temple in wonsan.

Stop to fix the turns.

To next leader:

1. Seoul still needs constant MM every other turn to pop up settler every 4 turns.
2. Cheju can whip a temple next turn.
3. After Lit is due in 4 turns switch Granary in P'yongyang to Great Library (or, is it actually better to build the granary first? Someone can do some research on this..). Make improving this town a high priority. We must get GL.
4. Following is a tentative dotmap. There is a settler going to SW to Inch'on - you may want to wait until a warrior goes there in case there is barb camp nearby.

It is good to see how we are growing. But I keep getting nervous when I see unguided settlers roaming around.

With a little luck we get Lit before the AI, but it looks like a Philo gambit might have worked.

We now almost have an optimal city placement. I don't mind a tighter build.

Next leader: as soon as we have lit, switch temples to libraries!

Carlos or Meli: can one of you take it? If so, please post a ''got it".

I have more time as from Wedensday, but I fear to get swamped.

No Meli or Carlos around, but I'm slowly getting time to play again. Still I like barbslinger to play first.

Here's my attempt for a dotmap. Imho we don't have to go for an optimal build, especially regsrding our 2nd ring cities.

Also, as soon as we have map making, let's make a galley and try a new discovery. The northeastern tip of our continent is not discovered yet!

AG5 - 1250BC – Surveying the situation it looks like we have quite a few cities due to our baby factory in Seoul. We are in need of about 15 workers though. We shouldn’t have any trouble while the expansion is going but a military factory and a worker factory would be nice. I read Microbes notes on granary prebuild for GL and I think a granary will give it more pop than we can handle while it is building. I think we need to get masonry now to get entry to math and palace prebuilds and so a better trade opportunity is there when lit comes in I spend 140g to China for it.
Here is how I see our cities developing:
Seoul – Settlers for a while and then worker/military.
Hyangsan – Lib > Brax/Military
Pyongyang – GL
Cheju – Pop rush temple next turn to get whale and then a worker to road itself back to capital.
Wonsan swaps to granary. The temple would be nice but it would only give us expansion to tiles we can’t work. Lux tax will be high for a while anyway due to settler factory. I’d rather have growth right now. It can pop a rax/ military and then do a couple workers.
The other towns are too small to think about right now and all our towns except the capital need infrastructure. I’ll be pushing that these turns as well as positioning us for a Glib build. I’m a little worried about lit being extorted from us, since we are weak to everyone, and I am considering slowing it down. Nah, maybe we can still get Phil? Lit in 4 and will hold off trading it until we get 100s in the bin. The only thing that worries me about the GL town is the corruption.
Here we go!
IT - China running a settler pair across NE marsh towards desert. Oil?
Wonsan>Granary>Rax
Seoul - Settler>same
Ulsan – Wkr>same

[1] 1225BC – Whip the temple in Cheju. Settler heads for fish dot. Settler in mountains moves to next mountain and sees some room. Northbound settler heading for river on plains. Next to Chinese town. Up research to 0% while Seoul is growing. Man these are really tough decisions for some reason.
IT – China plants next to some spices they were fighting over. We are now in Chinese territory. Hope he boots us. Speaking of which, we are going to need some spears in our gem town.
Cheju – Temple > worker.
[2] 1200BC – Roading GL town. Moving settlers.
[3] 1175BC – Settler on mountains is thinking about a choke. There is a lot of land there and if they want it let them sail for it. There is another BG there too. An American scout is there now, did he come through our territory? No new techs from the AI unless it is curr, const or poly. Adjust factory and sci-sli to 20%. Swap Cheju to barracks.
IT – Lit is in, phil in 10. Maybe?
In’chon – Wkr>same
[4] 1150BC – Taejon is found SW of cow per map. England has Philosophy so we didn’t waste any beakers on it. 10% at +14gpt and CoL. The GL is 51 turns away but I have not switched yet.
IT – Settler>Settler. Americans have Poly, they are building ToA.
[5] 1125BC - Paegam is founded next to China. Set to worker, Nampo rushes lib.
IT – Nampo – Lib > Spear. Vetoable. China boots us. England going for ToA.
[6] 1100BC – zzz. Thinking about barbs on our western mini-peninsula. America surely looked that area over.
[7] 1075BC – Hyangsan riots on 3 pop. My bad.
[8] 1050BC – Moving settler and workers.
[9] 1025BC – Settler>same
[10] 1000BC – Pusan Wkr>same. Hittites complete colossus. AI are steming ahead in tech. We really need the GL. We are 90 shields in. If we can hold lit for a little while longer we should be home free.
We have 171g +24gpt and there are deals to be made with cash and credit prior to dealing lit. Up to next leader but I would push for a Col and Phil deal to start research on Republic. It is getting close to time to end this farmers gambit and hook up some iron too. Frankly, I’m worried. 12 towns and 2 settlers on the move.

I agree with the workers, we need more!

Yes let's at least have a defender in every city. But I also like to know if we have horses! (the wheel)

Good idea. But I also like to see where the horses are.

We could keep producing settlers in one city (Seoul) until we are out of room. We have to remember that we can't wage aggressive wars. Also, we need the Foreign Palace soon (Pusan, Hyangsan?).

Good set of turns Barbslinger :)

Absolutely, however we don't know if Philo is known on the other continent.

Even that we could trade it to the AI and get some techs we need, and start prebuild for GL before we go for Lit.

Now it's kinda embarassing: we can't trade Lit, we have a long way to build GL, and we are afraid that AI demands it or cascades to it. :mad:

IHT: I see that Greece only has three techs over us and China 5. The both lack Philosophy. Despite of the fact that we MIGHT get the Great Library, I decide to trade:

-England gives Philosophy for 13 gpt
-China gives Code of Laws for Philosophy and 5 gpt
-Greece gives me The Wheel for CoL and Horseback Riding for Philo

Research to min science Republic. No other known civ has it yet. I now have two gambits going: TGL and Republic.
We have horses!! Just south of Namp'o and also closer to home outside the boundaries.

Namp'o is switched to barracks. We don't want regular spears. Hyansang switched to Library. It will be ready in two and can then give us expanded borders.

One of the goals of my 10 turns is to hook up the horses and the gems.

I also switch Cheju to acurragh. I see coast tiles next to the city still unexplored!!

IT: Ulsan: worker->worker. Cheju: worker->library.

Turn 1 (975 BC) Lux to 30% to keep Seoul happy. The curragh from Cheju moves SE and notices (is)land.

Turn 2 (950 BC) The island continues to the east.

IT: Seoul: settler->settler. Hyansang: library->FP.

Turn 3 (925 BC) We hooked up the horses :) Chonju and Sariwon founded, start warrior. Still more land is found east of us.

IT: Ichon: worker->barracks. Taejon: worker->worker. America finished the Pyramids.

Turn 4 (900 BC) The curragh heads further east...

IT: Paegam: worker->library. We have to be careful that this city doesn't flip.

Turn 5 (875 BC) That island SE of Cheju is getting beigger and bigger. But no other AI in sight.

IT: America sends a settler pair to the desert. We are too late. Kaeson: warrior->worker.

Turn 6 (850 BC) We finally appear to reach to end of the island. And there also doesn't seem to be a way to get further.

IT: Seoul: settler->settler.

Turn 7 (825 BC) There is indeed no way to cross the ocean from the island we just explored. Hyangsan is linked to the core empire and has a lux now. Lux tax back to 20%.

Turn 8 (800 BC) A curragh goes one tile to the east, finds no borders and returns.

IT: Gems hooked up.

Turn 9 (775 BC) Seoul still asks us to keep lux at 20%.

IT: Pusan: worker->barracks. England finishes the Oracle.

Turn 10 (750 BC) :sleep:

We are doing well regarding land grab and culture. Militar wise we are weak, but I'm not worried about that. We are 29 turns away from the Great Library, but there's still a fear for a wonder cascade. Despite the fact that the AI doesn't have Literature yet. For now I would concentrate on building brracks, workers, units (horsemen :) ) and libraries. We are a scientific civ and I think that we could profit from that. The AI on our island is still ancient.

Also, there's another spot that we should explore better, the NE tip of our continent. We didn't have success in the SE, but maybe the NE gives better results.

I really think that the TGL is a mixed blessing. Getting it is nice, but when we fail, we also fail in the chance to use our free tech to catapult us into the tech lead. But the Republic might help us there.
