AG9 - OCC Conquest (Monarch)

IHT: Luxury can go back to 0%. Ansar that was resting on the wines colony goes south, kills a spear and retreats to the wine colony. I probably will use this tactic a lot, to use the best trait of the UU to the max (speed). Two longbows and a spear are killed in the same way. But one ansar is lost.

IT: LBM kills an ansar :( Mecca: Ansar->Ansar. It will keep on producing ansars and Crusaders in my turns...

Turn 1 (1010 AD) Ansar army is sent south to show the Germans what a powerful unit really is. Two normal Ansars kill a LBM and a sprear without and go hide under the protective wings of their big brother.

Turn 2 (1020 AD) Three cats take a few HP's from a spear and LBM that block our road to Cologne. Two vet Anars manage to kill them. Our Ansar army only needs to kill one spear and we raze Cologne.

Two Ansars are redlined after killing a MDI and a LBM. A third promotes to elite killing a LBM, a fourth doesn't promote. As far as I can see there are no German units threatening our colony or units on the roads anymore.

IT: No Germans countermoves to be scared about.

Turn 3 (1030 AD) Our Ansar army and three normal Ansars move to Bremen. One Ansar kills a LBM.

IT: A lot of German MDI's go north (about 6).

Turn 4 (1040 AD)

Siege of Bremen:
-Ansar kills MDI that blocks the road
-Ansar army kills 2 spears in Bremen, losing 1 HP. Bremen in razed.

Battle south of the wine colony:
-cats soften up two MDI's.
-Crusader kills MDI but is redlined.
-Curader kills MDI without being hurt
-Elite Ansar is killed, but redlines a MDI.

IT: India and Greece sign peace. Redlined MDI attacks an Ansar and the Ansar promotes to elite :D

Turn 5 (1050 AD) The Ansar army troops move to Bonn, the iron city of the Germans. Elite Ansar kills a MDI that made it to the road. 7 other MDI's will soon be an issue.

IT: I spot Germans knights. India moves their troops to the east, finally.

Turn 6 (1060 AD) cats redline a MDI and elite Ansar kills it.

Siege of Bonn:
-Ansar army loses 6 HP's but kills a pike in size 7 Bonn
-Ansar killed by spear, but spear is now redlined
-Ansar kills last spear and we raze Bonn.

Germany loses one of their two horse resources, but the iron is still within their borders. Unfortunatelly our troops have to heal first.

IT: German knight attacks our Ansar army :eek: But we only lose 1 HP...

Turn 7 (1070 AD) 3 Ansars kill three MDI's south of our wines. The army troops find refuge on a mountaintop.

IT: 3 MDI's go north...

Turn 8 (1080 AD) Two crusaders and an Ansar kill the 3 MDI's. The Ansar army troops are staying put. Two crusaders, an Ansar and a sword climb on a strategic mountain just north of Germany.

IT: Two knights redline vs our troops on the mountain.

Turn 9 (1090 AD) Nothing much....

IT: A knight retreats vs a Crusader on the mountain, but a MDI kills another Crusader :(

Turn 10 (1100 AD) Our Ansar army troops are rested and the iron of Germany is pillaged. The Ansar army loses two hitpoint while killing a spear in Dortmund. Three Ansars also move to the mountaintop north of Germany.

IT: India founds a city on the ivory, our colony is gone. Greece wants to renew the peace deal and I accept. An Ansar on the mountain kills a knight, but another knight kills a crusader.

Turn 11 (1110 AD) Ansar army kills a spear and we raze Dortmund. The army is strong enough to take out a new city in two turns :D So the troops move towards Leipzig. An Ansar kills a German knight and quickly climbs back on the mountain. Two other Ansars join him.

The German army finally is average to ours [dance] But now India is stronger...

IT: A knight is killed by an elite sword on the mountain. Two other knights retreat while fighting Crusaders.

Turn 12 (1120 AD) Our Ansar army kills three spears in Leipzig, losing 2 HP's. Leipzig is razed.
Two vet Ansars kill redlined knights. One of them promotes...

IT: Our brave sword on the mountain is killed by a knight, but another knight is killed when attacking an Ansar. Indian troops finally go south, but they are hindered by our colonies.

Turn 13 (1130 AD) Elite Ansar kills a wounded knight.

IT: Again a knight and a LBM are killed by the troops on the mountain.

Turn 14 (1140 AD) The Ansar army moves to Hannover, which is defended by a musket :( Since it is vital to see where their saltpeter is, I buy Gunpowder from the Greeks for 810 gold.
The Germans have two sources, near Hannover and below Hamburg! India has a resource under New Dehli, but it is not connected yet. The resource closest to us is just SW of the gems colony.

Near the mountaintop we manage to kill a pike.

IT: No German troops approach the mountaintop.

Turn 15 (1150 AD)

The siege of Hannorver:
-Our Ansar army loses 8 HP, but finally kills a regular musket
-Two other Ansars lose a total of 1 HP killing a spear and a LBM. We raze Hannover.

The troops quickly run to a mountaintop.

Notes:
-Our ansar army is fantastic, but we should be very careful with it. I found that it won't be attacked when it has 9 or more HP's left. Betwen 5 and 8 HP's it should take refuge on a mountain. Below that it should run away. At this moment it is resting on a mountain and probably fit for duty in two turns time.
-I used only one stack of troops to take out German cities. The one with the army. Other ansars would have been killed easily. It may be a good idea to send a few extra ansars to join this stack. But I wouldn't join pikes, crusaders to it, because they slow it down too much.
-I have a lot of troops parked on a mountaintop south of the wines colony. The Germans throw all they have at it, but lose more troops than we do. I would stay there for a while.
-The Indians finally go south, but have a long way to go before they reach Germany. We may want to let them fight it out, but otoh we have no other targets. Peace with Greece just was renewed and lasts another 15 turns. Our MA vs Germany ends next turn. EDIT: On 2nd thought: India and Germany should keep on fighting. IF we make peace with Germany, we should then declare on India when India and Germany sign peace and have the Germans join us with an MA... But I see no reason to end the German war yet.
-I can't decide what we should do now. Killing Germany or keep a status quo.
-EDIT: The Great Wall of India will become obsolete with Metallurgy. We are close to that point...

The workers could build a fortress and a road on the mountain. We are quite sure to hold that, but it would be nice to only be needing a couple of units there:

In civ 2 that was really happening often, you put a stack of defenders on a mountain and the AI would just pour its troops there to get kiled... but in civ 3 I don't remember seeing that so much...


Nice job halfing Germany's land area... to bad they have muskets & knights...:undecide: Getting more brutal.
 
Lurker thought: I think you do need to turn on India, but I think you may have to re-up your MA with them versus Germany to give their troops time to get down south. Then you can pull the ol' switcheroo, MA with Germany (and Greece) to make a nice Jumbo sandwich. That would allow you to have half your force playing defense and destroying the out of position offensive Indian force, while the other half razes Indian core cities.

The only problem with this plan is that Germany might back stab you and sign peace with India after you switch sides. But an OCC conquest win requires that a team takes at least a few chances. Good luck!
 
Good progress.

The only thing that is disturbing me is that there seems to be more and more land settled all the time, no matter how much we raze. I suspect this game will last a long time.

I do not have any solution, as we kill off troops as fast as we can.

How about Germany? They're already weakened, and most of our troops are there... we could then concantrate on the western civs India and Greece who would have less land... I hope.
 
I'll start by apologizing for not checking in since the 5th. I missed the announcement about the Fourm upgrade. :crazyeye: I've got it now and will play tomorrow. If India's only saltpeter is in New Delhi, I see no reason to trun on them now. I say push on until Germany dies, then push the Indians back east.

I'll throw in some comments once I open the file later tonight.

Looking at the game I see we are in a good position against Germany. They have no iron so their knights should dry up. I'll send a Ansar to make sure they are not settling near there. The only 2 cities Biz will not offer for peace are Hamburg and Nuremberg. Ham has the salt but I see no good reason he wants to hold onto Nuremberg. I will focus our Army on Nuremberg and leave Munich for the Indians. They might get here on my turn.
We are 100 turns from thinking about Metallurgy so Gandhi will have to make his own walls obsolete for us.

IBT Crusader kills an attacking knight.

1160AD-1 Ansar--Ansar Indians are now blocking the road between our gems and the wines with 11 elephants. Pillaged road out side of Pune. Moved workes to build road and tower on mountain road. 3 slaves start a Fortress on the Mt. Healing.

IBT India cancles alliance. Do not see the need to speend 140g for something they already do.

1170AD-2 Alliance is only 90g on our turn. Road built on Mt. Road Block. Cats move up and go 2 for 4 on a MDI. Vet Crusader promotes while finishing him off. Move 5 Ansars towards Salzburg to make sure they do not think about getting the iron again.

IBT Lose an Elite Ansar to a Knight near the iron. India has reached our Mt.Road Block.

1180AD-3 Move Ansars to higher ground by iron, removing knight on the way, and see an Indian galley out in the water. Army loses 4hp killing 3 LBs. Moving stack from Mt. Road Block to Mt. Healing.

IBT One Ansar dies on Mt Healing.

1190AD-4 Ansar-->Ansar Crusader. It is a shame we cannot get to 30s. The best I could do is 29 :( Workers near home are working on a second lane of our highway. Elite kills Knight near iron. Army kills another knight but has to run back to Mt. Healing. Kill knight that attacked MT. Healing.

IBT Gandhi gets closer to Germany.

1200AD-5 Healing turn. Waiting for Jumbos to tate the heaving fighting. Kill one LB

IBT Germany finds a way to pay for Peace with India. India starts building the Sistine Chapel and Cop's. LB kills an Ansar.

1210AD-6 Buy India back in for 240g. I cannot let those WE get away. Kill a LB.

1220AD-7 Ansar--Ansar India now has 4 workers trying to connect their salt city. Kill a LB and a Knight. Army and 3 Ansars on edge of Nuremberg protected by a spear.

IBT Trade an Ansar for one LB.

1230AD-8 Lose 5hp on army attacking top spear. Have to send one Ansar back to heal.

1240AD-9 Crusader. Fortress completed on Mt. Healing and filled with 2 crusaders and 4 catapults. Pillage around Nuremberg.

IBT Longbow kills a pillaging Crusader.

1250AD-10 Ansar--Ansar Nuremberg disconnected from salt before building/upgrading to muskets. Have to heal army now.

1255AD-11 Moving to high ground over Nuremberg.

IBT India Captures Brandenburg.

1260AD-12 Heal and move.

IBT Greeks complete Sistine Chapel.

1265AD-13 Not much.

IBT India takes Salzburg.

1270AD-14 Crusader. Army takes on the new Musket that arrived in Nuremberg, promoting an Ansar but down to 7HP. Vet retreats from vet spear doing no damage. Army loses 2hp taking out that spear. Vet takes on reg spear and dies doing no damage, promoting the spear. Army heads back to heal.

1275AD-15 Cats go 3/4 at Nuremburg and no other defeder shows up. Elite Crusader get the honor of destroying the city. 9 more slaves join our worker stack with nothing to do. 3 Ansars move on to Stuttgart with 3 more two turns away.

I have one Ansar scouting in front of the WE's at Konigsberg. Never had the oppertunity to take a city they softened up.
I have 2 units keeping India's salt disconnected now.
We may want to start moving our stack of 4 cats and 3 crusaders to Berlin.
Two Ansars and a Crusader are healing on the ruins of Nuremburg. The Army is healing by Mt. Healing.
Slaves have been moved to connect roads to Munich.
Greeks have a third city now. They also have some Barb hunters East of Mecca.
Both Inda and Greece have runt through the top of the tech tree. Printing PRess and Education are visible and both will trade maps.

Future Plans:
Healthy Ansars can capture Stuttgart in about 3 turns.
Munich can be taken by the Army and others healing in about 6 turns.
Then move all to Berlin.
By the end of the next set of turns, Inda will have Heidelburg and Konigsberg and will be heading to Frankfurt.

Very good progress :)

In the fairly near future I would take two cities from Greece and then make peace for techs. Nice way to pointy-stick our way through the techs. They now have PP and Education (at least) over us.

An interesting point. Athens has it. But that would mean that we should abandon Mecca and move our OCC to Athens. With two crippled civs and one other left this doesn't seem worthwile. We simply aren't allowed to have 2 cities for a turn to profit from TGL.
