ages?

driving: 18. (learning permit at 16 - accompanied by full licence driver)
smoking: 18 I guess. earlier for scientific experiments into creating an army of asthmatic dwarves. Smoking banned in public. offenders against this law may be beaten by passersby.
drinking: 18 to purchase alcohol. any age whilst in company of parents.
smoking weed: never. banned. offenders may be lynched by passersby.
having sex: 18, or +/- 2 years (for under 18s).

anyway, that's what i think, however, simon darkshade's proposal does hold a certain attraction.

Well I did say don't enforce it. :mischief:

there we are at a core problem: makle a rule you do not enforce? tsk tsk

what do you do then if someon out of hate actually tells on someone else to the police - should they drop the charges? Can't do that, can they? So it becomes a matter of not being caught... nto a great basis for a solid legal system!

btw, Loaf Warden made my points very well on page 2, also on alcohol - thank you! I was too lazy to type these thoughts out, but I fully agree with him there.

driving:16
smoking :16
drinking:16, no age limit if with parent/guardian
smoking weed:16
having sex:17, if under 17 +/- 2 years

Here is what it should be.

driving: 15
smoking : 16 (if you want to, go ahead. You'll die sooner)
drinking: 18
smoking weed: what the hell for
having sex: whenever you're ready

(pot) smoking: who cares or illegal
drinking: who cares or illegal
driving: 12 (as long as you can see over the steering wheel)
sex: i cant immagine setting a legal age for this. as far as a limit for considering something abuse/rape, i'd say it would be something like the ages have to be close enough together to be legaly "consentual"

having kids: now this i would set HEAVY restrictions on. you have to not be a dumbass, you have to be able to support your child(ren). if either of the above depend on a spouse, then you have to prove that you can last as a couple.

driving:20(to reduce car accidents)
smoking :13(thats when it all starts anyway)
drinking:13(same as above)
smoking weed:16(then I can do it but not my classmates:D, really: It's dangerous and less acceptet than drinking)
having sex:15(I seriosly doubt anyone is ready before)

Driving at 20 or above to reduce accidents? Many lads that age are at at their most arrogant and carefree. What one calls "boy racers." Plus, if they'd waited an extra 3 or 4 years to drive, they'd be all the more determined to enjoy it - at any cost in safety. To make maturity a significant factor, you'd have to raise the legal driving age to about 25!

Driving :16
Smoking :18
drinking: 210
pot: 25,000,000
sex: 18 and married

Sex: Illegal you got to be kidding me how about 14. Weed illegal. Smoking: Illeagal Driving:15

Driving: 16
Smoking: 20
Drinking: 20
Pot: Illegal
Sex: 16 or 17

Driving: 17, so that all have at least 1 year to get it before they finish highschool (Swedish one)
Smoking: Illegal
Drinking: With family, 15, else 18.
Buying liquor: 18 (21 here at the moment)
Pot: Don't know
Sex: +/- 3 years (maybe 2) until both are 16.

I think that all limits should be the year you turn the age, and not the day though. Like it is now, a lot of people with late birthdays get false IDs so that they can spend time with friends. I don't know what new year's eve will look like though, when suddenly all 17-year olds are allowed to drink in an instant.

Sex at twelve? Alot of boys wouldn't be capable to have sex at twelve. Girls, yes, but boys, a good number of them wouldn't.

If I understood my sex ed class right.

Boys at 12 are perfectly capable of having sex
And what the hell is a "sex class"? Is it what I think it is? If so, I'll have to rethink the puritan stereotype I have of americans!

drinking: 16 for girls, 19 for boys (the normal ages when the body has stopped growing, IIRC)

Except 16 year old guys can handle alcohol much better than 16 year old girls. Also, the puberty differences between male and female these days are pretty slim (within a year or so).

driving - 17, permit at 16
smoking - illegal
drinking - 21 (by this time your body and brain are done)
smoking weed - 18
having sex - eh not sure. My mom says sex is bad until you are responsible to move out of the house. Others say wait until marraige. Some of you weirdos are saying at 12. Personally I don't think I can put an age to it, but it would be anywhere from 16-18, with a +/-1 year limit on those under 19
draft - 21 (I dont want 18 year olds in the military. 21 year olds are stronger anyway)
vote - 18

Sex ed is a class most moderate-liberal schools teach that focuses on the mechanics of puberty. Anyway, I don't think most boys can have sex that will be real sex for them until closer to 13, although I'm sure some could do it at 12.

Driving : 17
Smoking :Illegal
Alcohol: 16
Weed: 16
Sex:14

And i dont think anyome who wants to break the rules would actually give a second thought to age restrictions they just dont work.

Werid smoking is illegal and weed is 16 well i hate smoking it does nothing for me contains complete **** and has destroyed too many lives in my family..whereas weed in moderation is all good and actually has an effect

It is required in all public schools.

I'm quite sure it's up to the school to teach it or not teach it. It's certainly possible to be required but I don't think that's the case.
