Air Conditioning

I am air-conditioned, about 23 hours of the day. In the office, at home, on the mass transit, even while walking to my office. :crazyeye:

The AC is mankind's greatest invention. In the tropics at least. :yeah:

I live on the top floor of an old apartment building. Without air conditioning my apartment gets as hot as 125 F in the summer (I don't know what that is in celcius but it is well over 40). When I got AC it changed my life for the better in a dramatic way, I can sleep during the Summer now and no longer have to worry about dying of heat exhaustion.

I am not the air conditioner type. AC just makes you not want to go outside, so I let it ride with a good fan if I`m hot.

Growing up, for me air conditioning was something for wealthy people. It never occurred to me that I would ever own an AC unit.

Then I moved to New Jersey.

This place is like South Carolina in the summer, with high heat and humidity to match. During the day I only use a fan; I still can't see the point in paying huge bills for comfort but at night we use one of those portable AC units (5000 BTUs) for our bedroom in the summer. Last night was the first night this year we had to haul it out.

I hate ACs. Easy to say in Holland I guess. But even when it is hot...

House can be built to stay cool without airco. Even Romans new who to do this.

In my car simply open the slide-roof.

If someone wants me to leave Israel, all he has to do is to take away my air conditioning.

Bah. AC is for girls. To sweat is to be purified. Did Rommel have air conditioning? No! Could Stonewall Jackson just flip on the AC when he got a little warm? No! Charlie couldn't get AC as he ate his bowl of rice...the only comfort to Charlie was death. Death...or victory.

I'm probably only saying that because it's around 30 below in here right now.

I have no air conditioning, here in NY or in my summer house in Jersey. I don't need it that much though; throw open all the windows, put on the fan, or go to the beach!

If you have an architect who's worth his money, you don't need A/C. At least not at home. Office buildings are a different thing though.

I don't need air conditioning.

I don't know anybody with air conditioning, everybody has it in their cars but not at home.

It was 29 degrees (celsius) here the other day and I think that's one of the warmest days we've had in quite a while. It's never uncomfortably hot here and never at all humid. I like the temperate climate here very much.

What has the world come to when the British are bragging about their weather?

I am one of very few people in Canada who has no appreciation for AC. My girlfriend is installing one in our bedroom as I type this. I am not helping because I don't want it.

I don't get it... Canadians spend 9 months of the year complaining about the awful cold weather and how they'd like to move to a warmer climate... then in early June they crank their air conditioning to bring the temperature down to -20C.

Further proof that we are without a doubt the most ridiculous nation on earth. :crazyeye:

I prefer fans in the roof

Can't speak for Dralix, but AZ describes me. Sysyphus, when
its 34 degrees and not humid you can live without A/C. When
its 40-44 degrees (like, say, Tucson in June) A/C takes on rather more importance. Especially since Mt. Charcoal ,er, Lemmon isn't an option anymore...

The problem here is that it is very cold in the winter (as low as -40 F/C) so houses are designed to stay warm and use passive solar heating to lower heating bills. Good in the winter but when it is July and it is 100 F (44 C ?) with tropical humidity, AC is a must.

Try living in Florida for a decade without AC. Its a modern convenience that should be embraced.

yeah, same with Texas. I would move to Canada if I didn't have A/C down here!

Is that what everyone is talking about? Air conditioners in the windows? Bah. Why bother? I thought we were talking about central air.

Architect eh?

Looks like those of us that are too poor to afford our own architects will still continue to need A/C.

:)

I don't really like A/C in appartements. I want to feel the weather as it is. I love Québec (and Canada for that matter) for the different temperatures we get in a year. In the last six months I lived in -30 and +30 degree celsius temperature. I love it! On the other hand, my place of work as to be a cool nice place...not too hot not too cold. I have A/C at work and I wouldn't trade it for all the fans in the world.
