AK06 Eclectic

Preflight check: Wow, that’s a lot of kings. I rename them to give them some character, so we have:
King Kutzov
King Bede
King Viper
King Rat (excellent book, btw ;) )
King Grahamiam
Saint Nick
And King Fokker (for the Admiral’s in-laws :) )

Ok, King Rat move to the E mountain, sees decent land. King Kutzov to the NW, W mountain, sees dyes (spys a 2nd in the fog) and jungle. King Bede SE, S to hill, sees coast. King Viper 2T NE, sees more marsh. King Grahamiam SE, E to forest, sees incense. King 2T, NW, sees more marsh. Saint Nick SW, W to see more jungle and coast and a GH.

Found Entremont on the spot, worker moves to game. Set production to Granery and turn off research (+3gpt), but set it to BW (should be able to trade for it and I’d rather get WC from a hut.

Our opponents are Persia (Mas, BW), Greece(Alpha, BW), Ottomans(Mas, BW), Japan(Wheel, CB), and France(Mas, Alpha). Strong AA and MA civ’s. Should be interesting.

T1: 3950BC Worker chops. King Fokker N(more dyes), King Kutzov NW, Saint Nick pops a GH and we get 25g, King Bede S, King Grahamiam E, SE; King Viper NE 2T; King Rat S, E

T2: 3900BC Saint Nick SW, W; King Bede S; King Rat SE, S; King Grahamiam E; King Fokker N; King Kutzov W; King Viper N

T3: 3850BC King Fokker N, King Viper N, E, sees ivory and Greeks Hoplite/Settler pair: buy BW and 10g for Pott and CB. Set research to Mas. King Kutzov N, sees GH; Saint Nick NW, N (more marsh); King Rat S, see Ottomans spear/Settler pair! Buy Mas for CB, Pott, and 14g. Cannot buy Alpha yet. Set research on Myst (still @ 0%). King Grahamiam E; King Bede S

T4: 3800BC King Viper sees Greek border and a GH; King Kutzov NW towards his GH; Saint Nick NW; King Bede S; King Rat S 2T, sees Otto border; King Grahamiam E; King Fokker N

IBT: Chop finishes, see the Greek Parade of Kings.

T5: 3750BC King Viper pops GH and we get warriors? WTH, we have no military? King Grahamiam E; King Bede S 2T; King Kutzov pops GH and we get more barb warriors  Saint Nick B-lines home. Ditto King Rat and King Fokker
Worker Irrigates

IBT: King Kutzov survives a single barb attack while King Viper is ignored.

T6: 3700BC King Fokker and Saint Nick headed home. Looks like the kings are really military units, with attack and defense ratings. Think I could have read the ratings to figure that our
Anyways, other king units still exploring.
Ottomans know Alpha now, so I buy Alpha + worker from Greece for Mas and 15g.
Greek worker moves to the game.
Twiddle lux slider due to growth.

T7: 3650BC Meet Japan, they are up Wheel but down BW, Mas, Alpha, and Pott. Buy Wheel and 10g for BW and Mas.
King Kutzov and Viper head N, King Grahamiam goes eastward, King Bede probes the Ottomans back door, Saint Nick and King Fokker still heading home.
Sell the Wheel to Greece, getting 15g and a worker. Sell the Wheel to the Ottomans for 24g
New worker heads to the game.
Horses are close by.

T8: 3600BC King Fokker protects the workers and Saint Nick reaches home. King Viper and Kutzov headed N (Viper seens Japan’s border); King Grahamiam is headed E, looking for Persians, while King Bede and King Rat scope out the Ottoman areas.
Turn lux down to 0% as Saint Nick is home.

T9: 3550BC Kings are still exploring. A barb warrior is headed for Entremont or the workers. Still 2T till ETA

T10: 3500BC Workers finish roading the game and move to grass, away from Barb Warriors. King Fokker returns to Entremont.
Ottomans up WC but not dealing.

T11: 3450BC Workers Mine the grass (we’ll need a couple mined and it’s on the way to the horse).

T12: 3400BC Moving kings for exploration. I notice the huge stack of Otto kings in the Otto town SE of us.

T13: 3350BC Moving the Kings, looking for the Persians. Otto’s will take care of the local barbs.

T14: 3300BC Workers roading and 1 moves to the horse.

T15: 3250BC King Viper pops a hut and gets maps, showing a land bridge. Looks like Viper or Grahamiam can go thru

T16: 3200BC Workers move to BG now that the Otto’s have cleared the offenders. King Fokker covers the worker on the horse in case the Otto warrior there gets a funny idea. Lux tax to 30%
Japan knows WC but is down Alpha. Sell Alpha to Japan for WC and 18g
King Viper meets a French warrior (forgot about them :) ); Sell them CB for 45g

IBT: Granery -> worker (MM to get in 2T)

T17: 3150BC King Rat covers the horse worker and Saint Nick goes home, allowing lux slider to come down to 10%. King Viper headed over the land bridge.

T18: 3100BC nada. Greeks up IW (doubtful for all our coins)

IBT: Entremont: worker -> settler

T19: 3050BC Lux slider to 0%. Worker to BG.

T20: 3000BC nada

IBT: horses connected, mine finished

T21: 2950BC King Grahamiam finds the Persians. They are down CB and Wheel, but are broke.
Adjust lux slider for growth.
Greeks and Ottomans know IW and Myst. Can buy IW for 2gpt and 203g but wait.

T22: 2900BC: not much

T23: 2850BC: bump lux up to 20% for growth.

T24: 2800BC damnit! Greece is expanding right at us, while there’s plenty of good land to there East.
Sell the CB and 42g to Persia for a worker. Buy Myst from Otto’s for 134g and 1gpt. Sell Myst to the Persians for 2 workers and 35g

IBT: Entremont Settler -> settler

T25: 2750BC Workers Mine but I leave the settler in place for the next player.

We can start a min run on Poly now as the AI goes for writing and MM and stuff.

We are very cramped. Unfortunately, no room to grow. And crappy terrain for growth. I suggest we start building a slew of Archers to take out the Ottomans to the S so we can grow. We may also want to consider a 3T spacing for the initial 3 or 4 cities. This could get very painful if we don’t act on the Ottomans soon.

Settler pump should be well setup with the mines that will be completed soon.

edit: that ring near the incense is sure to provoke the ottomans. i would probably move it 1T NE, but all locations basically stink. next player should use their best judgement and not rely on my circles too much

great trading, with all the kings contacts are fast. this will be techs galore, I agree on going after one Civ soon.
By the way, what's the roster since Grahamian started. I am a little confused.

edit
I could play tonight S'pore time, thats in about 6 hours time

Agree on going after the Ottomans. We already know much of the world by 2750 BC, those kings are great. Suggest settling the incense first (Ottomans might get it), then the dyes.

@ grahamian
I think you posted the wrong save, looks like the initial save

Nice opening. Start the archers. Could use Incense city as a forward base vs. the Ottamans. Let them come to us and impale themselves?

Roster:
grahamiam - just explored lots of map
viper - up so he can get in a turn before break
TheRat -
AK -
Bede - this position to correct my idiot moves.

I guess Viper has left for his holidays already, so I pick this up and play tomorrow afternoon S'pore time

good luck, and wear out that F4 key :) imho, go 3T NE or move the incense circle 1T NE for the 2nd town. we don't want to provoke the ottomans till we're ready. remember, they get all the normal diety starting units plus 7 kings, which are basically aztec jag warriors without the GA (1.1.2 units).

btw grahamiam, since you took 25 turns, are we following the 10 turns per player guide or issit 15?

sorry, most games i play its usually 20 or 25t 1st player, 10 or 15 second player, and 10 there on out. i probably should have limited to 20t but i really wanted to get the next player setup with a settler :)

Pre-Turn
move settler, will settle as suggested 1NE near incense
IMO we need to have IW to know where the iron is to build our mighty UU

2.2670BC
found Alesia by the incense, increase lux due to growth (20%)

4.2590BC
Persia knows writing

6. 2510BC
found Lugdunum

7.2470BC
get IW from greece for 7gpt and 115g
wow we have iron just next to our capital on a mountain [dance]

8.2430BC
now japan also knows writing, maybe can strike deals :mischief:
sell Peria IW and get writing + 115g
sell writing to Ottoman for 188g to Greece for 137g
sell IW to France for 51g
set research to Lit @min

9 2390BC
Greece and Ottomans know maths, get it from greece for 282g since we want to fight Ottoman, so they need no money

IT Greece demands 31g, well we go NO military, I cave

10 2350BC
settler ready to settle next turn on the dyes, connecting the iron in 3 turns, then we can build UU and attack Ottomans
building rax to prepare for war, other builds debatable and can be changed
eclectic2350.jpg

i strongly recommend we do NOT attack anyone with our UU while we're despotic. we must be monarcy or republic. wasting a GA while despotic in diety is extremely tough to overcome, that's why i was talking about an archer rush. also, we need more than 4 towns. keep building settlers out of Entremont till the western areas are filled. there should be room to the SW of the dyes town for 1 or 2 towns and then the hill NE of Lug. Also, we'll need settlers for razing and replacing Endrine and other celtic towns.

we could have also delayed connecting the iron, build a few vet warriors, and then upgraded with our excess gold. our UU costs 40 shields and it will take us a while to get each one built with our puny towns.

agree on building more towns, i just wanted to have at least some defence in place. and yes, a despo GA isn't great at all. maybe we can beeline to republic or monarchy (which one we want since this will be fast and furious warmongering, maybe monarchy ain't that bad)
we only need 2 more techs for monarchy and 3 more for republic

there is space for settling south, if we clear some marshland. not really nice land but better than nothing

sorry, came off a little more harsh than i wanted. rushing to get out of here. :)

just so everyone knows, entremont is a 4 turn settler factory. starting at size 5, it should be (in turn order) 6s, 8s(with growth), 7s (mm to mined grass), 9s (with growth) for a total of 30. looks like we'll be able to correct it with the barracks build.

Also, we'll need settlers for razing and replacing Endrine and other celtic towns.

You must have been really rushed, we're the celts.

Da Save

No preflight changes.

1. 2310: Notice our iron is next to a volcano. Plan on an involuntary reource disconnect at some point. Found Camulodunum on dyes, start warrior. Alex sells us a slave for 124g. He won't take 7gpt. Have we trashed our rep already?

2. 2270: zzz

IT: Ottomans demand 23g. Cave. Watch the grand parade of Emperor Xerxes (x3) from Antioch to Gordium. Iron connected.

3. 2230: raise lux to 20%

4. 2190: Entremont raax > settler

5. 2150: zzz

IT: Lugdunum cat > cat. Camulodum warrior > warrior.

6. 2110: zzz

IT: Alesia rax > archer

8. 2030: zzz

IT: Entermont settler > settler. Dyes connected

9. 1990: drop lux to zero.

ak061950.jpg

Workers on mountains near Entermont are building a better road for the future so that when the volcano erupts and wipes out the iron, we won't lose the dyes as well. Ottomans have built a road that connects our empires. Next players can decide if we should connect our second dye to sell. Settler in Camulodum. My thoughts on sites are dotted. Would really like to deny that northern iron to Alex. We have two kings on the eastern edge of Alex's lands that are on their way home. Camulodum is building settler escorts. The water source for the western empire is marked. We need a worker farm. Incoming barb from the south.

Diplomatic front: Our opponents are idiots. They haven't researched anything this set. My one trade is detailed above. Deal with Ottomans is over. 6 turns left on deal with Alex. Money situation: Alex 302, Ozzy 99, Toka 74, X 53, Joan 33. We're up Math on Joan, X, and Toka. I'm worried that Ozzy will bite the head off a bat which will make him rabid and thus attack us.

@ Bede - MM Entermont, Alesia and Lugdunum. I fooled with them for about 1/2 an hour and I'm not satisfied. Maybe change that cat build to a rax?

@ all - twas the day before, the in-laws (who I wish to ignore), soon to arrive, I wish to go hide. Auto skip me until 12/26, spouse must be placated at all costs. I'll lurk.

Will pick up no earlier than 12/25 PM.

Edit: And got it

Early - Covered the iron/dyes road with King Bede then had to move workers around because of barb incursions from the north and south. Switched research to HBR after looking at the map and reviewing the situation. Instead of an archer assauklt on Turk a horsemen assault will work better, espcially with cat support. Switched Alesia to chariots for later upgrade to horsemen. Traded out Maths for the cash in the treasuries of those nations that didn't have it. Turned up research to maximum.

Middle - Entremont is a perfect four turn factory so just kept spitting out settlers. Moved two to the western spots and one to Alesia for later use in Turkic lands. Lugdunum built a cat then started a temple because of cultural pressure from the Greeks.

Late - Looks like we will beat the Greeks to the iron ville, unless the Thracian horsemen attack us rather then the Hoplite/settler pair. When HBR came in traded it for more cash, Mapmaking and Polytheism. Research then set to Construction at minimum. Nothing invested yet so next player can evaluate and change.

We keep getting demands and I kept caving. Started assembling the Turkish Delight ExFor at Alesia. The Turks have iron south of Erdrine but have not hooked it up.

When the next settler completes put Entremont to building horsemen for the Turks. When it grows to 8 build another settler and that should keep the population in balance.

Kings are back in the homeland and can be moved around for MP duty where needed.
