4/4 cav def. 3/3 hoplite
5/5 cav kills Alex V, looks like I miscounted the Alexi. Greeks kaput.

Lots of land to the east to claim. Next player will need to skim settlers. Silk near Athens is hooked up. 2/4 cavalry in position to block choke near X next turn. Deal with Joan is still running. Railroad needs work. Science and lux are each at 0%. Sorry I killed Alex without getting any techs. Knew I should have removed the mittens and shoes.

@AK
nice job, never mind about the techs. next target should be Persia or Japan> Which victory condition are we trying to achieve? domination? maybe if we beat Japan that should be enough already. and remember without our resources, they look weak.
one question. are we not allowed to do self research here? would it be worth?

Silk near Athens is NOT hooked up. Sorry for the typo.

This is not an 'idiot' game so whatever research you want to do is fine. Maybe start a min run on something. I had high hopes of extorting rifles from Alex. If only, I could count. sigh.

I prefer Toku next. That's why I sent the cav to the choke. X and Joan can still make end runs with boats, but they should be slowed down some.

Let's rule out SS and cultural victories. I've never won a diplomatic so that would cool. Domination is the obvious choice. Conquest is in the spirit of the game (i.e. kill the leaders, kill the civ). With enough money we would know where the leaders are before starting any war. I've always had more money than I know what to do with as a communist ;) How does the team feel about Celtic Commies killing kings? (@ Bede - does that count as alliteration? If it does, I'll edit so my head doesn't explode)

Celtic Commies crushing conquest.

@AdmK, yeah, better get a cast for your head.

crap, you guys are too fast :) i'm up in a few, need to figure out the order. hopefully, i get this in the next day or so.

edit: reviewed my SG's and this one is next on the list. will play and post tonight

Preflight check: Find 12 fortified workers? Please warn me next time as I almost hit space. Wake them and make them RR.
Buy Japan’s WM for 2g + WM. They have coal and are starting to RR, but not extensively.
Switch some Greek towns to settlers.
Switch a bunch of builds and rush. Need more workers and Cav, as we’re going to have to go after the Japanese (with rifles) and only have 17 cav?
Blow all our money rushing stuff.

IBT: Ratae court -> bank; Antalya market -> ‘duct; Alesia Cav -> cav; Lug cav -> cav; Camul worker -> worker; Segusio settler -> worker; Richborough cav -> worker; Verulamium market -> cav; Argos temple -> worker; Augustodurum cannon -> worker; Glevum temple -> worker

T1: 1060AD Rush settler in Athens. See that Kagoshima and Tokyo have rifles (we have an RoP atm with Japan)

IBT: Entremont cav -> cav; Athens settler -> settler; Camul worker -> worker; Richborough worker -> worker; Augustorium worker -> cannon; Lindum worker -> worker

T2: 1070AD Found Lezoux. Find a barb camp on a nearby hill and dispose of it with 2 cav’s.

T3: 1080AD moving stuff and RR.

IBT: Entremont cav -> cav; Athens settler -> granary; Alesia cav -> cav; Camul worker -> cav; Richborough worker -> worker

T4: 1090AD Found Noviomagus -> worker

IBT: Lug cav -> cav; Richborough worker -> worker; Verulamium cav -> cav; August cannon -> cannon; Catactonium worker -> worker

T5: 1100AD More rails. Cancel RoP with Japan. Rush some stuff.

IBT: Entremont cav -> cav; Alesia cav -> cav; Richborough worker -> bank

T6: 1110AD Ask Japan to leave or declare, they declare. Sign MA with Persia vs Japan for 109g.
Found Arausio in a bad spot but it connects some roads.
Pillage a square outside of Kagoshima to get the French to declare on us (MPP with Japan) so now it’s WW, Persia + Celts vs Japan + France :)
Near Ratea Coritanorum: cav retreats from rifle; cav kills rifle and we take the settler underneath (3/4)
Near Argos: cav kills French LB and promotes (3/5); cav kills French LB (4/4)
Outside of Epo (sp?): elite cav kills LB (3/5)
Sell Persia Salt and Coal for 618g

IBT: Persia sends a couple LB’s and rifles
Lapurdum market -> cav; Lug cav -> cav; August cannon -> cannon; Cataractonium worker -> settler

T7: 1120AD Cannons go 3 for 11 at Edo; 2nd cav army kills rifle (11/13); 2nd cav army kills rifle and is badly wounded (4/13); 1st cav army kills rifle (10/13); 1st cav army kills rifle (5/13); cav dies to rifle and promotes it (4/5); cav retreats (3/5); cav retreats (2/4); cav retreats; cav redlines but dies to rifle; cav kills rifle; cav kills MDI; cav kills redlined rifle (2/5); cav kills king and we take the town

IBT: Entremont cav -> cav; Burdigala Pentagon -> cav; Alesia cav -> cav

Outside Edo: redline rifle with cannon; elite cav kills it (4/5); 4/5 elite cav kills elite LB and we generate a Leader! He runs back to Entremont and hurries the Military Academy

IBT: Entremont Mil Academy -> cav; Antalya ‘duct -> bank; Lapurdum cav -> cav; Edo Flips, costing us 3 cavs and a musket; Lug cav -> cav; Camul cav -> cav; Segusio worker -> worker; Verulamium cav -> cav; August cannon -> cannon; Lindum worker -> worker

T9: 1140AD Rest the weary, kill the stragglers

IBT: Burdigala cav -> cav; Alesia cav -> cav

T10: 1150AD Edo is left defended by draftees; kill them all and raze the city. 1st cav army goes on a pillaging tour while the 2nd heals.
Use some opportunities to leader hunt with obsolete units, but no luck.

Short rush cav’s via muskets and look to Persia for lump sums of gold for our luxes. We should be able to end this soon, now that we have uber armies :) Must kill Japan before they get infantry.

great progress, guess I won't see this again
are we going to get them all out of the way or do we go for domination?

2
Raze Hakodate.
4
Burn Tokyo and found Durocortorum.

Attack on Nagoya failed, just retreat. When the armies heal at Durocortorum, attack Kyoto. We can sign peace with Joan if we want.

:hammer:

Nice going, gents.

Got it.

Still great bloody fun.

The Rising Sun sank hissing into the sea in 1275AD.

During the last battles I had canceled the alliance with X-man and bought some furs from him to cope with the war weariness. Then when Japan was gone made nice with Joan so the Celtic peoples enjoyed a respite from war.

For exactly one turn.

Xerxes decided that the rubber that is hiding in the jungles in our southeast was worth more than the paltry sum we were paying him for furs so he sent a couople of guerillas at us from the little choke town. I promply allied with Joan (she paid us for the privilege).

The kicker is in the last sentence. It is pretty obvious Joan and Xerxes both know Replaceable Parts. Fortunately we have four armies in the field and 15 batteries, all concentrated in the east.

Tactically our position is comfortable. We can bottle Xerxes' troops up and force him into the open where they are easy prey for cannons and cavalry.

Build some barricaded fortresses with interlocking fields of fire on the plains one tile away from the mountains and Xerxes's invaders won't stand a chance.

Go leader fishing with the cavs and pretty soon we will have eight armies in the field.

We can deal with War Weariness when it arises by making a deal with France for Spices. She needs Saltpeter and Iron BTW. We culd also make a deal for Industrialization for a bunch of luxuries and 67gpt. It may be worth it for factories in the core towns.

I created a couple of settler farms in the Ottoman lands to fill in the empty spaces on our side of the continent. Stack the cities like cordwood. With a single irrigated/railed plains tile we can support three citizens, one farmer and a couple of bloddsuckers. The net gain to the treasury from that configuration is about 10gpt. Ten of those towns and you have 100gpt to work with and no mainteneaqnce expenses for things like temples/libraries/markets and such. The coastal tundra towns will only have two citizens but that's about 6gpt to the treasury. So cram 'em in and don't let them grow past three. They will aslo come in handy when it's time to learn something.

We have zero scientific infrastructure so we will have to do any research by main force or gpt and beakerheads.

got it
we are at 54/56%, that's pretty close already. I try your tactics and get some stuff, RP would help a lot as well.

I can't trade electricity with France, they do not have RP then

early destroyed the 2 Persian choke towns
try to get out more settlers so we can grab the land, rushed a few temples as well. no research as we don't really need it

on turn 4 defeat 1st Persian king
turn 5 immediate steal at French succeeds and we get industrialization

France and Persia sign peace around turn 7, traitors. I did not trade anything with france anymore. I got France back though for iron and they gave us lux

at turn 9, we have over 66% territory, with 3 captured towns that are huge flip risks, in the IT 1 city flips back
but we get this
ecleticwin.jpg

we get a score of 7342, not shabby

thanks to all for a great team effort, it was real fun. great idea also
the save is before the IT, just press enter

@ all - Thanks for a fun game.

At the end I was beginning to think we'd cloned the military action in 3grams.

Best by far at this map size and level.

Great bloody fun. :bounce:
