Akin is A-Ok with Conservatives after all!

My comment, however, was basically that if you make the rape exception, it seems to be more to punish sex than it is to really protect innocent human life, because if its about innocent human life, like it is for me, and not about punishing women, it shouldn matter WHY she's pregnant.
Please come back to this when you have an understanding of how pregnancy, sex and rape work. Leave it alone until then.

The guy is clearly an old guy stuck in the past who doesnt view women as equals because that's how it was for him back in the day. Electing him will be even more embarrassing than the dead guy.

... even more embarrassing than the dead guy.

  • Ashcroft (ex-governor, sitting senator at time) was running against Carnahan (governor at time)
  • Carnahan died relatively close to election date
  • Due to date being near election, AND because Carnahan had signed into law while governor a law pushing back the deadline for changing ballot, he could not be removed from ballot. In other words, he was oddly responsible for himself not being able to be removed from the ballot.
  • Lt. Governor made it clear that if Carnahan won race, he would appoint Carnahan's wife to seat to stand in for husband until special election for seat could be held. Everybody in the bloody state knew this (well, those that care enough about voting... can't speak for the stoners on campuses)
  • Ashcroft suspended his campaign for an extended period of time out of decency and respect. He suspended it for too long as it halted the gains he had been making, and also because the democrats certainly didn't have the same decency. They used the death as a rallying cry for victory. Class acts, democrats, gotta say.
So, while yes Mel Carnahan was on the ballot, everyone with a clue knew who they were actually voting for, and it wasn't a dead guy.

To warp the words of Ned Flanders, I don't think you understand their objection.

It's GW and abortion. No objection is relevant.

Grats on saving yourself from Akin :)

Of all the election results I've seen tonight, this is by far the most reassuring. Especially since it wasn't a particularly close result. Apparently there is still common sense in Missouri. Or at least 61% of Missouri. :whew:

And Akin was a total, complete jerk in his concession speach. He went full partisan and continued his attacks on godless liberals.
