All leader portraits

I think something's wrong here. The Isabella picture is of Isabella of Portugal who is in the wrong alphabetical order. Would they really use the wrong picture of Isabella? Even for a muck up? It's a simple internet search.

I'm fairly sure B5 is a queen of the Goths.

Goths fits between Germany and Greece alphabetically. And I see a veil and a crown in that picture which is exactly how Gothic queens are depicted.

Sadly I cannot find that particular picture.

She was married to Charles V and regent over Spain while he was out and about in the rest of the Habsburgian domains. So the 'wrong' Isabella could be the right Isabella, although not an inspired choice.

If Gilgamesh is set for Uruk and not Sumer, that leaves the 16th/17th century leader to be from Sweden/The Netherlands/United Provincies of the Netherlands/? (although I couldn't find a match with any of their leaders so far...)

Unfortunately, googling "goth queen" doesn't lead to the desired results at all. D:

I'm a fan of female leaders but even this is a stretch. I'm at home now and have researched her a little bit. She did absolutely nothing. Like nothing. Her wikipedia entry includes: Early life, marriage, children.

At least Catherine de Medicis could be said to be inspired and interesting choice. She was a major patron of the arts and French Queen Mothers as regents had a lot of power.

The Isabella thing makes me think this isn't the real list.

Probably most likely. The whole point of having leaderscenes is to make interacting with civilisations more exciting. For this, we need good, recognisable historical figures; Napoleon, Alexander, Genghis Khan, etc. But what point is there in having leader-scenes when we are going with not particularly iconic people like Catherine de' Medici and Isabella of Portugal? How are leaders like these supposed to help sell the game? How satisfying will it really be to beat Catherine de' Medici?

It's not some clever riddle placed for our mind exercises. It's a random catch of some work table. It could contain some temporary info, it could have some pics out of order, etc. It's totally possible Spain leader is still undecided and not implemented, for example (at least at the time of taking video).

Maybe the ruler of spain would charles V AND Isabella of portugal.Could be interesting having a couple at the head of the state
Spoiler :

One possibility is that the board is not actually a final photo board, but an "elimination board" which they gradually removed candidates from as they made decisions about who to include, possibly based on how much they like the concept work the artists come up with. It's also possible that they might sometimes remove or change one of the pictures.

I think this scenario is way more likely than Firaxis intentionally trying to troll the community.

I think it's more likely there's some kind of shenanigans going on with Isabella and E1 than it is that this is all a troll.

The rest of the list is pretty reasonable, even considering the surprises (Catherine de Medici for example), especially if you consider they might be trying to break new grounds at least in terms of leaders. No matter how much the devs would want to innovate regarding civilizations, there are just too many 'core' ones you can't do without. Then you're left with a measly 4 or 6 spots for new civs, tough choices galore.

I'm sure everyone here would have a different list of 18 vanilla civs - none is better than any other.

the better list of 18 vanilla civs is the one with more than 18 :D

Yes but the fact that Isabella of Portugul was ever a candidate makes me worried.

And the joint monarch thing, ironically, would've made the most sense with Ferdinand and Isabella on the Iberian peninsula, more than anyone else.

I don't know if they're intentionally trolling or not or if it's real but if it's real, even as a draft, a lot of things don't make sense.
