If Firaxis wants to add women, why not ones that did worthy things like in the case of Hatshepsut, Maria Theresa, Isabella, Catherine the Great.

really? so firaxis don't know what they're doing? i think if you disagree with who they've chosen you should be questioning how you came to your conclusions rather than how they came to theirs. otherwise you may as well criticise an apple for not being orange

firaxis do have more 'worthy' women to include but their exclusion i think proves that firaxis aren't just trying to fill out the roster with women for the sake of it. they have more 'worthy' men as well but their exclusion isn't because of some agenda or pandering

If you can recall this is Civilization, the game that focuses on Great Civilizations and Leaders not mediocre ones. If they didn't want say FDR again they could do Reagan.

It's not ignoring a market to recognize that you can make more money by making Poland an add-on rather than base content.

It's just that Firaxis wants the base game out. The base game has all improvements fro Civ V Expansions and more. Once they make DLC or expansion packs Jadwiga and Isabella (of Portugal apparently) will be out.

Come on, if you were to ask the average person, they wouldn't say they know Cleopatra's achievements, only that she was a woman and the last Egyptian ruler. Medici was never in control of France, barely did a thing compared to Napoleon, Charles de Gaulle, Charlemagne, and Louis XIV. Gorgo didn't do much either, her husband may have died in battle but, at least he did something to stop Persian invaders.

Come on, if you were to ask the average person, they wouldn't say they know George Washington's achievements, only that he was the first President and somethin bout wooden teeth and a cherry tree. Further do you think the average person has ANY idea who even Hardrada, Saladin, or Barbarossa is? They'd tell you its the party hard rod guy, the fat dude from Aladdin, and Beardy McBearderson from those Pirates movies. The average person is completely and totally irrelevant here, and a LEADER is not a RULER, the Venn Diagram definitely overlaps but it isn't a universal fact.

since you seem to know what firaxis are doing better than firaxis themselves maybe you could apply for a job there? or maybe they're successfully executing a strategy that differs from what you think they are doing and in fact you are the one in the wrong because, again, you are criticising the apple for not being orange? which is it?
