All Roads Lead to Rome[RFC Synthesis]

It's specifically the Roman UP, not a conqueror's event. And it's only once per civ.

What are your plans now? Personally I'd bargain for peace and return Shush. Or whatever it's called in Latin.

Then you can try nabbing the rest of N. Africa, France, Spain, and Britain.

Unless you aren't interested in the historic aspect anymore. In which case you should probably stop expanding for a bit and let your economy catch up.

I'm still aiming for a historic Roman Empire, but things are looking up. I have only one city left to conquer at the end of this update

Jeez, I thought Mandate Armies only worked on the first civ DoWed, not all of them. That's freaking scary.

Haha, in total it's 10 legions and 5 catapults :D.

On with the update:

In Rome, the people were amazed at yet another monument to Rome's power. The Great Cothon helped exploit the ocean further, while looking magnificent. After it was built, the Romans built a temple to their Gods.

Across the Empire, Celtic and Babylonian rebels were put down. The natives needed to learn the lands belong to the Romans! The Persian war front was going well under the new General, but orders from the Emperor himself came to leave Persian lands. Peace was soon made. Parsa will not feel Rome's wrath, for now.

Rome decided instead of destroying Persia, Egypt could be a better conquest. War was declared, and Legions mobilized. They later met with the main army to lay siege to Egypt's cities, which were soon destroyed. Carthage was taken by Egyptian Chariot riders, regrettably.

Meanwhile in Rome, work began on a lighthouse so great, trade would never be the same again. Jade found around the iron deposits near Rome increased the revenue in the city. While the Emperor oversaw the construction of the colossal lighthouse, a strange man from the far east arrived. A scholar released a work detailing that the Chinese Empire was larger than Rome. The scholar disappeared mysteriously, but Rome was now even more focused at becoming a greater power.

I'm back in business with a positive gold flow. Didn't expect to war with Ethiopia, at least not this soon lol. Will update later today.

You still need Iberia, France, and Angle land! :p Plenty more to conquer/settle.

Nice, good recovery, but as Mosher points out, you still have other land to conquer. Don't let those foolish horse demanding generals get to you! :p

Are you playing with the last official release or the last SVN release? If you'r working with the latter entering the WorldBuilder causes crashes. If you're not, mind entering the WB and giving yourself calendar temporarily to let us know the date?

Yeah, but no more major war campaigns lol. Still have lots of work to do.

Pretty sure it's latest, I'll check now.

EDIT: one sec, I accidentally forgot to post completion of the lighthouse and start of the colossus lol.

EDITAGAIN: And there's too many pics in that post. I'll just include both in the next update.

Okay, here's a screen with the date. I don't know if I'll make the deadline.

Think you can make it?

Short answer, nope lol. I'll just have to prepare war with the Europeans and rebuild from there.

I've never been able to get the Roman Empire under Trajan on time.

...Those Roman Emperors must've been killer Civ players...

I've never been able to get the Roman Empire under Trajan on time.

...Those Roman Emperors must've been killer Civ players...

Neither have I, but this is my second time trying lol.

I'm sure it's possible. Had I played on Viceroy I'm sure I would've gotten really close. Maybe I should've been more hostile in the beginning and declare war on Greece and Phoenicia at the same time.

Either way, I'm not reaching the deadline. I can either continue and build my military in preparation of the imminent European spawns, or I can restart the story in favor of trying harder at nailing the Roman Empire of Trajan. I'm leaning towards the former, but am entirely cool with restarting. What do you guys think?

Continue the story.

Rome's unique power makes the beginning relatively easy. It will be surviving throughout time, when all of the new powers rise up and want to claim your lands, that will be the really challenging part.

Okay. I'll have an update sometime today.

yay, continue!

I see everyone wants me to continue, so here it is!

In the mighty city of Rome, perhaps the largest and most culturally advanced city on the planet at the time, the Great Lighthouse was built. The mighty structure was so awe-inspiring, it influenced trade though-out the Empire. The Emperor ordered the construction of another immense structure, a structure called the Colossus.

In the war front, the Ethiopian city of Niwt-Rst was conquered. That battle ended the shortest war in Roman history. Peace was immediately made, and Ethiopia became a Roman protectorate. Their teachings of Monotheism, traded for Arithmetical teachings, helped the priests finally understand the radical thought. The Romans began to uncover cultural teachings afterwards.
