Wow. That's what I get for living in the hinterlands I suppose. I didn't see a Redbox until close to a decade after they were founded, and our local BlockBuster franchisee had given up the ghost ages before the company itself folded. He couldn't hack the competition from OnDemand and Time Warner Cable.
My parents didn't even own a video-recorder until 1999 or so. I bought my first DVD-player in 2005, but you still could buy TV-VHS combination-units even then.
We had one of those for the first few years. It worked so bad at one point my sister and I rushed a prayer between the lid closing and the machine actually noticing the disc. Of course it rarely worked.
We still have it, but we havent used it for I cant remember how many years. At least four, probably many more.
It's nice that all the people who watch the Filoni shows will get to see Thrawn. And I like it when Tim Zahn writes Star Wars books instead of doing, like, David Weber collaborations in the Honorverse or something.
As far as other Celebration stuff goes, I'm interested in the 'secret trailer' for Rogue One that they showed there. Apparently it goes heavier on the Vader.
Alden Ehrenreich also apparently tried out the Han Solo NFG smirk and did a solid job of pulling it off? That is also cool.
Having only seen him in Hail, Caesar!, I could actually see it. It is still heresy that someone other than Harrison Ford take on the role, but we shall see.
I liked the new trailer, too. So far this movie seems to maintain the "lived in" feel of the series. It looks like this movie takes place just before Star Wars. The new trailer shows what I assume are younger versions of Tarkin and Mothma, and of course it features the construction of the first Death Star.
Well the events necessarily take place right before the beginning of the original. Also the casting of young Mon Mothma was already confirmed some time ago.
I'm a little disappointed they didn't cast Wayne Pygram as a young Tarkin. He had a brief cameo as a young Tarkin at the end of Revenge of the Sith and as he showed as Scorpius in Farscape, he can do a brilliant villain.
I am particularly impressed with how they portrayed Thrawn so far in Star Wars Rebels. Since he was being officially made canon, I was somewhat worried they'd mess him up.
So far, so good. In general, I'm impressed with the new season. Production value has increased significantly with one particular scene with Ezra near the end being breathtaking. With Filoni now being in charge of all Star Wars animation, I am looking forward to a very, very enticing era of shows for the franchise.
