Thanks for the map! :)

Greece is the best? And the US=Russia and China?

US surveillance is generally private surveillance (store security cameras, laws which favor employer surveillance over privacy rights of workers, etc.), also, the map was done under Bush. Also, do not forget about the PATRIOT Act and the warrentless wiretapping; the use of biometrics in ID Cards/Drivers Licenses, which started to take off during Bush also results in a poor score. The map also measures enforcement of privacy laws and safeguards, which the US is poor on.

I also thought the US would probably be in Red or Orange. The UK is understandable with all their CCTV cameras, but I didn't think we were that bad.

There are some errors on that map, anyway. For example, only half of Sakhalin Island seems to be a part of Russia, and there's nothing at all where Laos and Vietnam should be.

Except Prussia stopped being a Polish vassal in 1618 and didn't exist until 1525. That's less than a hundred years, compared to Prussia's existence as a state named 'Prussia' that lasts until 1947.

1657, not 1618

Hears an incomplete map of Europe where all the countries are divided in to two or more states, and just for the record I realize that some of the borders are horribly wrong so if you have any ideas or corrections let me know.:)View attachment 217863

The purple dot in Denmark is quite funny, since I live on that island, and there once was a nationalistic(islandistic?) movement which proclaimed their goal was to secceed from the kingdom. "free funen" it was a joke movement but pretty funny.

I have noticed that these threads are high on European map submissions and very low on American map submissions, in terms of the nationality of those submitting. Correlation. I think so. Europeans love their maps.

Might also be due to the fact that Europeans tend to be more Geographically and Geopolitically aware than Americans.

I have a ton of maps in my computer, I'm just too lazy to upload them. I love geography and stuff like this (thanks to my dad).

Internet traffic map. Some of the other information is too small to be read, unfortunately.

Me like these kinds of maps. :yup:

It might also have something to do with us having quite a few more countries in our continent than the north american. Besides, most american maps also seem to be recycled concepts (america invades the world, america has another go at the civil war).

EDIT: also, we had this nationalism going for some time(and still going), which sort of encourages rewriting borders. besides 2000 years of changing nationstates, ethnic groups and religious movements also seem to impact on the geopolitical landscape of the old world, compare this to 200 years of geopolitical history in the new world.

Japan should be coloured an even lighter shade of green. Russia is really deceptive, the life expectancy for men is somehting ridiculously low, like early 60s or something. Its abysmal.

Looks about right.

What color is that Russia and Venezuela etc. in the 1950 map?

I think it's just referring to any major/minor municipal airport (like DTW or JFK) - if it was anything with a runway, there would be a crapton of red dots in the Great Plains.

There not nearly that many municipal airports in the Ryukyu.

10 awesome points for anyone who makes a map that depicts where most maps in this thread come from :)
