When they give all those ethnicities in Africa, is their defition of "ethnicity" the same as perhaps the American view of "German", "Irish", "Jewish", "Italian" etc.? Or would they count the German ethnicity as "Kieler", "Prussian", "Nordrheiner", "Tyroler", "Liechtensteiner" etc.?

It's the former.

African languages and ethnicities are very, very, very diverse. Pretty much impossible to have good sized nation-states in most of those areas.

As for the balkanized Asia, China needs to be balkanized more. Here's a link to a map of the chinese languages:

Why did you give Bahrain to Iran? And if you're going to separate Dubai and Abu Dhabi you might as well separate all the emirates of the UAE.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the most powerful emirates; Iran has been eyeing Bahrain for some time. Ethiopia and Eritrean tensions have been growing, and another war is inevitable.

My map was referring more to a 'better' Middle East, so my description was bad, I guess.

That's sort of been done- Ralph Peters created a hypothetical re-drawing of Middle Eastern borders:

Pretty good, here are some improvements.

Manchuria should be separate from china
Arab Israeli should be split from Israel (its a balkanized map after all, so Israel's north should be Independent)
West Java's (Indonesia) 26m Sundanese should be independent
And Iran should be way more Balkanized (Wiki's got a good picture here)

I based the map largely on existing active secessionist movements, so Indonesia (for instance) remains largely intact. Manchuria (Dongbei) for example is overwhelmingly Han these days.

Plus, I'm pretty sure Kazakhstan should be more Balkanised than that too. And Afghanistan, which has become larger.

On the other hand, most of India and southeastern Asia is well-detailed. That place really would be a mess if all the crazed irridentists and secessionists go their way!

Afghanistan I left as it is except for the eastern part which went to Badakhshan. The Russian north of Kazakhstan could be balkanised but otherwise its surprisingly homogeneous.

Don't forget Sakhalin and Hokkaido should be Ainu

Same issue with Manchuria. The Ainu are now only a tiny fraction of the population in Sakhalin and Hokkaido.

Well there's Telangana, which covers roughly the same territory as the old Hyderabad.

The Wu Dialect region does not equal Zhejiang, as it also includes most of Jiangsu, and Shanghai.

You might as well separate the Rajputs too, they've always been a pretty independent people historically.

And Penang and Malacca from Malaysia, there is a high concentration of Chinese people, the only two Malaysian States to have significantly more Chinese People than Malay
