Ah. Well then that sounds good. I actually love this NES! Do open it!:D Oh, and uh, reserve the Western Roman Empire for me, wouldja?;)

I've been toying with opening it for a while, and with your vote of confidence maybe I'll open it soon. I need to work out just how I'll do stats, though.

Actually, as far as I know, only links to one of the site don't work. Unfortunately, most scenarios are found there, but there still are some "alive" ones.

Good ideas, both NK and Cuivienen

Some more ideas:
- What if the horses didn't die out in North America?
- What if Sumeria wasn't crushed?
- What if Hittites scored an overwhelming victory at Kadesh?
- What if Persians defeated the Greeks, forcing them to flee to Massila like Phoeniceans fled to Carthage?
- What if Romans had a bigger maritime presence in the Red Sea?
- What if Franks were never united?
- What if Czechs won at the White Mountain?
- What if Cromwell's son kept power, leading to the English Sucession War?
- What if the Iroquois Confederation survived?
- What if Pugachev's rebellion suceeded?
- What if Hitler was assasinated, and Germany remained undivided (and once more would go revanchist)?

They're all great, but I like this one the best. Perhaps the 30 year war ends with a decisive Protestant win, which causes a Protestant Austria? Perhaps this leads to a minimalized Hapsburg Empire, and the Spanish are forced to devote all their resources to defeding against the French, and another Inca rebellion succeeds?

They may be outlandish ideas, but I still like this scenario. :)

@ Das; all your ideas are good, with the exception of what if sumeria wasnt crushed; longstory short, same exact thing, considering the babylon itself was, unitl it gaine dpolitical infamy, the suburb of the famous Sumerian city of Ur...

NK, well, for one thing I don't believe that the French would need to intervenne, or would intervenne on the Catholic side. Nevertheless, all Germany could be Protestant, and, according to some people's opinion, Venice might become Protestant as well. But we'll just leave that to Xen.

Sumeria's culture differed from Babylon's culture. Babylon, for one thing, was more militaristic and centralized.

:bump:

YEEAHH!!!! MAXIMUM BUMPAGE!!!!!!;)

What if General Aetius became Emperor of Rome? He was so beloved by all. Perhaps he could have established a dynasty, prolonging the Roman Empire's life?

What if the Mongols hadn't turned back and had gone on to ransack western Europe?
They probably wouldn't have kept a continuous dominion in Europe, forcing Europe to start over again like they did in the wake of Rome's collapse.

Possibly. Or possibly the Mongols would have been slowly reduced in number, eventually unable to conquer the western reaches of Europe. France would be much stronger (by comparison), but Poland and Hungary and the HRE would be much weaker.

Even if not, the Mongols would never have conquered Britain. England may have come to dominate western Europe, swallowing what was left of France and Flanders after the Mongols left.

England would be much weaker, anyway, without the wool trade from Flandres. It still would have done well. So might have Islamic Spain.

I don't know much about Aetius, but I think that the best case scenario for Rome is something like this:
In the 600's, Rome survives but is weakened by Islamic invasions through North Africa, Iberia, the Levant, and Turkey. The Berbers and Arabs had better cavalry and fought with more zeal, Rome would have lost a significant chunk of its territory.
What Rome probably could not stand up to would be the Mongol invasions. The Mongols were better than any military force ever fielded before and was not equaled for centuries. Perhaps the Mongols would have turned back halfway through as in real life, but they would have left behind at best a critically weakened Rome, probably beset by invasions of other barbarians who were forced out by the Mongols (something like what happened with the Germanic Tribes during Julius Caesar's reign or as a result of the Hunnic invasion later on).

Hmm... What if no Genghis Khan?

Mongols are way overrated, I'm afraid. They fought good in the steppes, admittedly, but conquering Europe would've proved a challenge as there still were pretty large forests there you know, plus the Carpathian and Alpine mountains. Mongols didn't do all that well against the Arabs in a desert, neither. Mongols were also expert at siege warfare, ofcourse, so the castles were no longer safe havens. But it still would be difficult.

What if the Golden Horde converted to Christianity instead of Islam?

What if Timur conquered China?

What if Kublai Khan and his successors held on to China, conquering Japan and keeping the treasure fleets?

What if the Mongols conquered Egypt (just as likely as conquering Germany, I'm afraid)?

BTW, in the Empty America scenario, the Mongols too conquer Europe (well, a large part of it anyway), having gained allies in Venice.

I realize that I really miss this thread, and I think it was most useful. So, I officially revive it.

Anyone ever read "Seventh Part of Darkness" (not even sure it was translated from Russian)? It's a really interesting history in which Stolypin, a early 20th Russian minister and reformer, isn't assassinated in 1911, thus leading to a 1936 constitutional monarchy (by the end of the book, switching to fascism) Russian Empire fighting a war against communism in Germany, Austro-Hungary and China, while the Western World watches on, not knowing whom to support. It SHOULD make a good NES.

Great idea! I had one just a moment ago, but it slipped from my mind. Gimme some timel, it'll probably come back at the most inconvienent time!

Yeah. A shame that "changingthetimes" is often offline, it has some very good scenarios there.

I actual contribute to them, das. 'Ripper' is up on their site and the guy in charge loved it.

I originally put it on their Yahoo board, right before Yahoo kicked me off and so now I just contribute every now and again to them.

Really? I never noticed it there, until now that is. I've read it over at SCC, good work.

This Idea is already Taken, you will see it come up soon. It is really long and it deals with a lot of things that a certain person on these forums wanted. It is good though, I think, if unlikel or stretched at points. These stretches are made to encompass or to allow for things that the other person wanted.

I might have gotten out of hand, but here is a complete timeline. Yeah its outta hand, but I didn't realize that until I was almost done. I like it though. Holy Crap, it takes up two PM's its so long.

To reiterate the past events.

1861 - CSA declares Independence, Civil War begins. Queen Isabella II of Spain generally supported her Generals as her army was the only thing that kept the unpopular queen in power. She and General Seranno plana campaign to reestablish the Empire in America, taking advantage of the Union's preoccupation with the Confederacy. This plan goes forward after the CSA wins a few key battles.

1862 - The Spanish wars have had astounding sucess, except against Brazil who still defies them, and it seems that Spain will be victorious in retaking their Empire, the Confederacy's hopes reach their pinnacle when they force McCllelan out of VA in the penninsular campaign. This happens before Antietam and the Emancipation Proclimation.

America has from Peru to Columbia in South America, and the Carribean. The Confederacy has won Mexico and Central America. The Brits and French keep their colonies and neutrality.

1915 - British Belgium advance beaten back. War Casualties: 6 Million. Spanish Influenza breaks out in Worldwide epidemic. Confederate Ships break through and land troops on Cuba, where the Confederates manage to grab half of the island, but they cannot be supplied so must live off of the land. They are not very popular.

1916 - Union makes a separate Peace, giving up their South American lands and West Virginia to the Confederacy and the Carribean to the British. Later this year Germany also makes a peace, but it is awkward, without a clear winner.

The Peace leaves no victor, though, with the Japanese and American alliance still very strong. The Confederacy is reestablished on a much smaller scale, with a capital at Charleston and holding the states of S. Carolina, Geogia, Florida, and Alabama. It is Allied with the Allies. The Mexican Confederation remains an Axis puppet. China is divided North and South, with Cahing Kai Shek in command of the North and the South under a Japanese puppet regime.

1949 - First Nuclear Weapon Tested in Germany, developed by Einstein and Heisenburg. It becomes a boon for the Allies in the new Cold War, and several more severe Russian factions consider using it against the Americans before they can develop their own bomb.

Right now the World is Divided as such: Allies are basically all of Europe except for Spain, which is an American puppet under Franco, Korea Northern China, the Confederate States of America, and Yellowknife (NWestern Canada).
