Nobody ever said they couldn't have captured it in a war. Or in a peace treaty, rather.

EDIT: This post said nothing of importance.

Good for you.

Keep trying to guess.

Or, comment on my NK althist. I'm not sure whom else to place there. Jason wouldn't do for the Byzantines, IMHO... Gelislav however might be fitted into Severoslavia. Amirsan could be a Spanish king...

Any other ideas?

the dutch woudl neverf become a truelly major colonial power.

why? because all they do is make wooden shoes, wind mills, and gay pop videos (hilarious ones though. its from where my current AV comes from)

FINALLY.

He actually kicks off a civil war rather then commit suicide. Allying with the eastern provinces (Greeks), he actually does manage to reconquer Italy from the rebels and to burn down Rome (one of the few survivors was quoted as saying: "What, again?"). But that exhausted his army, and he had other provinces to subdue, so Hispannia, Gallia and Britannia (I think) broke off as a separate "Western Roman Empire". It eventually fell apart into three provinces again, and Gallia with parts of Britannia were overran by barbarians. Christian Hispania, however, established the Holy Roman Empire in early 8th century, conquering Italia and North Africa.

During all this time, Nero pulled an earlier transformation into absolutism, moved capital to Alexandria and hellenized the empire. It eventually lost many northern lands to the Germannic barbarians (including Anatolia), but persisted and even expanded southwards.

that is a spectaculer example of pulkling a story out of your arse, with no realism what so ever in it.

Das, does the current PoD have to deal with Portugal or any nation specifically?

Not with Portugal. ;)

They did become a major colonial power, Xen.

Thank ye very much, this is a most high praise from such a great man of letters.

not as major as Britian or France, sir das-alot. and why> because they put too many resources into making ghey pop stars, its elementary resource managment das; putting all you rbling bling into gay pop-star production just dosent allow for major colonial development.

I was thinking 'burning Rome is easy, surviving therafter is hard' good part there.
The divisioning of the empire works too as well as Nero moving to Greece...
but isn't it a bit far of a stretch to Hellenize the Empire? Unless it became a truly powerful base capable of dominating it's region would it be truly be beneficial to - hmmm, well if it's one third I guess it could work.

The Dutch were great at trading and building ports in faraway lands! Funny little men to play too in the 30-years war, very insistent on staying Protestant.

All they did was take over from the portugese, (ok and added, but the portugese were the "first", then the dutch cam and killed a lot of portugese), of course this helped enormously with havine the whole spain about to kick your ass every 5 minutes....

I really must read that book again, i'm not sure how accurate that was.

i've noticed this in a lot of the NES's where they start around 2500 BC and some people start out as rome (SPQR ruled) but rome isn't even close to existance around greece wasn't if around (well it was but they were the greek cities like when rome was in power)
just wanted to know why

Junior Senior is Danish, not Dutch. :p

same difference, dammit.

pish. I know danes, and know Dutch. trust me, thier is no appreciable difference.

The Dutch speak Dutch and the Danies speak Danish? :D

the fact that they both drink Danish beer (and the norwegians get in on that action too) makes up for any difference sin language
