Alternate History Thread V

I remember that NES. Lots of fun if it comes back I am willing to rejoin as Greater Thuringia. I don't imagine I would live long with enemies I have now :p

You lost your army, your khan, and, since you had to let Galicia live to do it, your empire. WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE JUST KILLED GALICIA AND LET ME KILL POLAND AND BERNHARDT IN PEACE?

On a related note, if anyone but me takes the Norse Empire I shall take such terrible vengeance upon him that generations yet unborn will cry out in anguish.

Pyrrhic vicotries are still victories. :king: You shouldn't have messed with my European ambitions or vassals you know, If I recall correctly I had vassalized Kostroma, Courland, Finland, Lithuania, Poland, and some random German state. I believe I made it clear my goal was always to sack Germany and penetrate Europe further than the OTL Golden Horde did. I believe I did succeed to a degree in that regard.

Though I can't say that I like this Golden Horde converting to Christianity nonsense one bit. Islam is the light.

Is that orange monster a larger England, or a Viking/Danish force that managed to crush northern Europe?

Green being some sort of Gaelo-Irish Celtic confederacy?

The Irish were the ones to (re)discover Avalon during the Middle Ages, thanks to the benefit of not being utterly raped by the English, (or rather the Anglo-Normans,) due to said English being ruled by the Norse who dissipated all their energy on internal struggles until the early 1400's.

Is that green over in eastern Germany Irish or am I seeing things?

You are, in fact, seeing things. That is the Kingdom of Greater Thuringia, a semi-feudal entity ruled by the iron will of the House of Bernhardt, originally of Bavarian extraction.

'Tis what I thought. Very interesting alternate history.

Yes it was totally the English that kept the Irish from being a major colonising power - without that they can leverage the vast resources of Ireland*, its strategic position**, and the boundless fecundity*** and unity**** of its people.

*None
**Also none, except for attacking England, its in a bad place to trade with Europe (especially for the Baltic supplies that are crucial) and off the major currents for going to the Americas.
***Pretty much absent pre introduction of the Potato
****Also absent, and likely to remain that way due to geography and the balanced situation of the Kingdoms.

And, to respond to the Irish Question, you had your generic legendary hero unite the mess in the 12th century, which is certainly feasible despite the impediments.

The actual route to Avalon was discovered following the conquest of Iceland from the Norse raiders. Lost fishermen led to the independently-financed voyage of messianic crazies, which in turn led to a royally-sponsored voyage to see if there really was a legendary Garden of Eden in the East, which led to a mostly useless land being discovered, but the Irish settled it anyway out of spite, mostly fishermen relocating to the Grand Banks, and the desire to give the Celtic Rite some minor victories on the missionary front.

Southeast Asia is awful. Please stop it sucking. I'm willing to suggest possible fixes.

There's a little orangish dot in Africa... Is that Norse?

Well, the Eternal Horde/Akhmadid Khanate is Islamic and you'll be welcome to apply for that.

Apply? I do believe its mine by right. :backstab:

How far has blasphemy known as Christianity penetrated in the Golden Horde? Is it only the Khan and the ruling class that follow it or is it the dominant religion now?

Assuming you mean the coastal one, yes. West Africa isn't actually finished, there are a lot more slave trading colonies along the coast.

Orthodoxy is stronger the further west/north-west you go in the Horde lands. With that said, the Golden Horde is sort of re-collapsing...

Whats causing this collapse exactly? Backward army, fractious nobles, lack of central bureaucracy..... because I remember dealing with all of that in some fashion or the other.

Most of the Golden Horde's surviving veterans marched off with Khan Akhmad, the Orthodox peasants hate the Mongols and the Asians hate the Orthodoxy of the Khan, and various resurgent Russian states are pushing into the Horde's territory.
