Era 7: The Age of Scribes

(map: click for big version - dots are now only shown for the most important cities)
Most of our knowledge of this era comes from the writings of a few prolific authors, who documented everything from religion and politics to everyday life. Many of these authors did not have official blessing of their rulers. Some were exiled, or even executed for subversive acts, to become martyrs for intellectual movements in centuries ahead...
It was a time of relative peace and prosperity (at least for the upper classes) in almost every part of the civilized world, and there was a revival of philosophy, which dared to challenge established order. The merits of civilization itself were questioned, and for most there was no easy answer. Many philosophers came to the conclusion that the great empires and kingdoms stood for nothing, except the endless hoarding of wealth and the oppression of the lower classes which had been the same throughout history.
Religion became more popular - especially in India where the faiths of (mystical) Syhinism and (goddess-worship) Wainism battled for attention. Some also rallied behind independence movements, and in the case of the Jormarin kingdoms, they joined forces with Wainist zealots to challenge the authority of the Kaj. The northern Yueren peoples also rallied behind their culture and traditional earth-worship religion, and gradually freed themselves from faltering Tianshi control.
In the Mediterranean, the Pargians had long been worshiping their rulers (living or dead) as gods, merging religion and imperialism into one. This idea was copied by the Voresians, who elevated the deceased General Orimudis to the status of divine being. While this caused some resentment, it also inspired loyalty and enthusiasm for the state - Voresia was the only empire that was really on the rise at this time, as it fought against the strong Krilik kingdom (newly unified under a strong dynasty), and played the Pargians against the Tesnarans before claiming more of the Mediterranean islands for itself, and finally becoming the dominant trade power in the region (the revamped Pargian navy began to focus more on the south and the Red Sea instead). Yet the western religions lacked the depth of those in the east, seemingly answering fewer of life's questions, and so never attracted the same kind of devotion.
Across the rest of the world, a few new kingdoms were on the rise - especially the Panto and Amestrian states - while many other powers seemed to stagnate. Civil war plagued the Kaj, Chuklikan, Savisian and Tianshi empires. Sea battles between the Chuklikans and the Timiquicans also led to a decline in trade throughout the Caribbean, while trade and contact between the cultures of the Indian Ocean and far east Asia continued to grow (owing much to the Kaj and Zuch peoples).
Its now around 350 AD (most of the Yueren kingdoms were officially freed of Tianshi rule in 0 AD, and this date was chosen by later historians as a standard point from which to measure the passage of time).

The rest: NPC, and may be claimed by new people. BUT please check with me first, and I can tell you what tribes/factions/cultures are related to what.
Note that there are some mixed cultures which are under the dual authority of two people, who may well give them conflicting instructions, and I'll try to decide the outcome.
It can be assumed that there are tribes all over the place. They will get names on the map as and when they become relevant.
Feedback/suggestions about anything in general are very welcome!
Notes:
@ Nick014, yes the Nanto were descended from the Panto (mixed with another native tribe)
@ LightFang, the Tiandulong are a mix of Tianshi with native tribes, the Khayuta have cultural influence from both Tianshi and Kaj due to sea trade. Also, kkmo is supposed to be back now, but I can do NPC diplomacy if he doesn't return to this.
@ Crezth, most of the Amestrians are too far from civilizing influences, so I see them being slower to settle down into towns and cities
Next Era: (PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!!!)
Era 8 will be Barbarians at the Gates. Rumours are spreading of barbarian hordes on the move in the remote parts of Asia and Central America. There's no doubt that something big is going to happen. Will the smaller kingdoms try to ally with the invaders? Or will various sides join forces against the attackers? Will there be mass migrations of people to safer areas? How will the larger empires, already struggling from internal problems, cope with the new threat? Maybe there could be a deliberate division into two smaller, easier defended states? Basically, I'd like to know (very roughly) how your culture/factions would react to a massive barbarian invasion.
The eras are supposed to have specific themes, to add 'flavour' and make it more interesting... Kinda like actual history. I don't want every era to be the same. The last 'theme' of ideals and concepts was pretty much ignored, leading to the rather dark and depressing age the world is now in
I intend to post Era #8 tomorrow, around the same hour of day.
Reminder: Please feel free to give any kind of input you want, but a simple list of priorities would be good. Names of great cities and leaders (NEW: and places!) could also be useful, though may not actually appear in the updates for some time. I will accept PM's if need be, otherwise you can just post in the thread. It would be helpful if you could take a second to
boldify the name of your tribe/chiefdom/people, so I know what you are talking about, and can easily find that post again...
