Alternate Timeline Building Experiment, v1.0

Good bye Kraman Empire! You served your purpose!:salute:

Krilik Kingdoms: Stay fairly aggressive and fierce. Attack mavan kingdoms to the south. Try to ally with Vara chiefdoms and have them aid in the attacks. The Krilik are extremely determined to take what they think they deserve. Also, the Krilik start to worship the fiercest animals they meet, believing that if they worship them they will get the animal's strength. This religion will most likely spawn beserker-like warriors. However, it will also soon fade out if a more popular religion comes into Europe.

Syhin State: Continue to practice martial arts for self defense. Temples will be heavily guarded in the mountains. Priests will go east to try to convert Yueren Kingdoms to Syhinism. Preach unity and peace. Hopefully this will atleast cause some kingdoms to ally and maybe even merge with one another.

Kaj Empire: This will be a time of records and books. The heavy amount of trade will cause many records to be kept to keep track of goods and money. Literacy will become rather high due to libraries starting to be made. Syhinism will be pretty much the official religion of the Kaj Empire.

Zuru Kingdom Priorities: They have been recently trading with Kaj more, as well as sending diplomats up the Red Sea to the Pargian Empire. In addition, Syhinism has been spreading to it, from the Zul people, who in turn got it from the Zuch tribes. However, for now, the polytheistic religion of the Zul people still holds dominant for all 4 tribes/nations (Hom,Zuru,Zul, and Zuch)
Hom Kingdom: They have been expanding onto Bigil (mainland Africa) near the Zambezi River Delta. A military is being raised due to some possible threats from the Turu Tribes.
Zul Sea Peoples: Have been continuing their ages-old exploration, although it appears that even these great explorers tire, and are wishing to settle down. However, they have undertook one last great expedition to a rumored land south of their eastern-most holdings (Australia).
Zuch Tribes: They have been more embracing of Syhinism than the rest of the places, due to their close proximity. Unfortunately, many disaster have forced them all to move onto Ceyloni, as it is called by the natives (Sri Lanka). They have yet to form a cohesive government.

Overall, this is a very fun... game. I quite enjoy this and am having fun practically ruling the Indian Ocean.

Whashagon Chiefdoms are going to focus on making their written language more efficient, and try to trade whale blubber with their neighbors for important resources.

Whashagon Tribes
are going to go on a rage of pillage and plundering of other northern tribes.

Voresian Empire: Spread the religion of "Orimudian". The belief that Supreme General Orimudis ascended to the netherworld to watch over and guide the Voresian Empire. The Kings are direct decedents of Orimudis and can commune with his spirit. The kings of this era try to bring the Mavan Protectorate under their power and dominion through the defense of their kingdom.

Mavan Kingdoms: Their alliance with the Voresian Empire will support the peninsula in their domination of the peninsula and defending against the Tesnarans. Orumudian culture begins to dig roots into Mavan culture.

Tesnaran Empire: Up to NWAG this Era.

Tupistok and Pelonar Kingdoms: Defend against the outside Cheifdoms and Kingdoms from coming west. Build alliance with Voresian Empire. Orumudian culture begins to make its appearance in the Kingdoms.

O.K- I'll stick to what I did this era, then give human-slaughter complete control next era.

Thanks very much!

I'm starting an update now, will try to be done within 3 hours of this post. Also, I found out that I'm going to be away friday-sunday, and will need to be up early on friday, which means I'll probably not have time to update this on thursday either... Hopefully I can update tonight and tommorrow at least.

@Neverwonagame, you are still allowed to have your own say, though if there is a big disagreement it might cause a split or a civil war or someting.

Khayuta Kingdoms
-The famous epic Journey to the North is penned. Journey to the North is a fictionalized account of Sanzo Wukong's pilgrimage to the Tiandishi Kingdom to obtain sutras. This man, whose family had immigrated to Khayuta with a few Tiandishi families, explaining his Tiandishi name, was accompanied by three disciples--the Monkey Price, the Boar Demon, and the Dirt Demon. After facing many trials and tribulations, they succeeded. But what is the text they brought back...?

Tiandulong Tribes
-Cultural borrowing from the Tiandishi is especially rampant. In Civ terms, they pretty much culture-flip to the Tiandishi, although nominally they are still independent. The Tianshi allow the Tiandishi to bring them under their control gradually. It's like the vassal of a vassal. They also go weaken enemies on behalf of the Tianshi, serving as a nice buffer state. They allow the Journey to the North to pass through them unhindered but are not so kind to the Champay Kingdom or the Muai Tribes.

Tiandishi Kingdom
What exactly was this bloody religion? It was the remnants of the cult that in the beginning had prompted the Tianshi to go on their quest of dominance.

It was called: Mingdebu, or Walk of Life. The point of existence was to bring peace to Mother Earth by bringing people into their fold be it by words or by sword. This was the quest laid out by Father Sun.

Tianshi Kingdom

Continue mixing this religion with the druidic religion of the Yueren.

OOC
Sorry these orders suck; I'm in a rush.

Oltaxlatl are to focus more on developing their own Caribbean kingdoms, and doing the occassional raid on other nations - particularly slaughtering Kuartl.

This era is notable for the chiefs of the various city-states meeting annually to discuss Oltaxlatl affairs such as rights to fishing and raiding rights.

The Tuzan have a belief in an imminent apocalypse that comes from the East, though their religion is orally transmitted so it can meld with anything that comes their way. They're still migrating West, with their horses, animal hide tents, riding armor, and furry hats.

They also have a thing for predatory-bird-clawed and winged horses, which display prominently in the major tribes' standards (if they have one or will have one). Other symbols include three-pronged arrows, bird-like dragons, and monstrous goats with multiple horns and legs.

(was offline to update and completely missed the last few posts, apologies! I can use them next time if you want. This is very rushed also...)

Era 7: The Age of Scribes

(map: click for big version - dots are now only shown for the most important cities)

Most of our knowledge of this era comes from the writings of a few prolific authors, who documented everything from religion and politics to everyday life. Many of these authors did not have official blessing of their rulers. Some were exiled, or even executed for subversive acts, to become martyrs for intellectual movements in centuries ahead...

It was a time of relative peace and prosperity (at least for the upper classes) in almost every part of the civilized world, and there was a revival of philosophy, which dared to challenge established order. The merits of civilization itself were questioned, and for most there was no easy answer. Many philosophers came to the conclusion that the great empires and kingdoms stood for nothing, except the endless hoarding of wealth and the oppression of the lower classes which had been the same throughout history.

Religion became more popular - especially in India where the faiths of (mystical) Syhinism and (goddess-worship) Wainism battled for attention. Some also rallied behind independence movements, and in the case of the Jormarin kingdoms, they joined forces with Wainist zealots to challenge the authority of the Kaj. The northern Yueren peoples also rallied behind their culture and traditional earth-worship religion, and gradually freed themselves from faltering Tianshi control.

In the Mediterranean, the Pargians had long been worshiping their rulers (living or dead) as gods, merging religion and imperialism into one. This idea was copied by the Voresians, who elevated the deceased General Orimudis to the status of divine being. While this caused some resentment, it also inspired loyalty and enthusiasm for the state - Voresia was the only empire that was really on the rise at this time, as it fought against the strong Krilik kingdom (newly unified under a strong dynasty), and played the Pargians against the Tesnarans before claiming more of the Mediterranean islands for itself, and finally becoming the dominant trade power in the region (the revamped Pargian navy began to focus more on the south and the Red Sea instead). Yet the western religions lacked the depth of those in the east, seemingly answering fewer of life's questions, and so never attracted the same kind of devotion.

Across the rest of the world, a few new kingdoms were on the rise - especially the Panto and Amestrian states - while many other powers seemed to stagnate. Civil war plagued the Kaj, Chuklikan, Savisian and Tianshi empires. Sea battles between the Chuklikans and the Timiquicans also led to a decline in trade throughout the Caribbean, while trade and contact between the cultures of the Indian Ocean and far east Asia continued to grow (owing much to the Kaj and Zuch peoples).

Its now around 350 AD (most of the Yueren kingdoms were officially freed of Tianshi rule in 0 AD, and this date was chosen by later historians as a standard point from which to measure the passage of time).

Note that there are some mixed cultures which are under the dual authority of two people, who may well give them conflicting instructions, and I'll try to decide the outcome.

It can be assumed that there are tribes all over the place. They will get names on the map as and when they become relevant.

Feedback/suggestions about anything in general are very welcome!

Notes:
@ Nick014, yes the Nanto were descended from the Panto (mixed with another native tribe)

@ LightFang, the Tiandulong are a mix of Tianshi with native tribes, the Khayuta have cultural influence from both Tianshi and Kaj due to sea trade. Also, kkmo is supposed to be back now, but I can do NPC diplomacy if he doesn't return to this.

@ Crezth, most of the Amestrians are too far from civilizing influences, so I see them being slower to settle down into towns and cities :(

Next Era: (PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!!!)
Era 8 will be Barbarians at the Gates. Rumours are spreading of barbarian hordes on the move in the remote parts of Asia and Central America. There's no doubt that something big is going to happen. Will the smaller kingdoms try to ally with the invaders? Or will various sides join forces against the attackers? Will there be mass migrations of people to safer areas? How will the larger empires, already struggling from internal problems, cope with the new threat? Maybe there could be a deliberate division into two smaller, easier defended states? Basically, I'd like to know (very roughly) how your culture/factions would react to a massive barbarian invasion.

The eras are supposed to have specific themes, to add 'flavour' and make it more interesting... Kinda like actual history. I don't want every era to be the same. The last 'theme' of ideals and concepts was pretty much ignored, leading to the rather dark and depressing age the world is now in :)

I intend to post Era #8 tomorrow, around the same hour of day.

Reminder: Please feel free to give any kind of input you want, but a simple list of priorities would be good. Names of great cities and leaders (NEW: and places!) could also be useful, though may not actually appear in the updates for some time. I will accept PM's if need be, otherwise you can just post in the thread. It would be helpful if you could take a second to boldify the name of your tribe/chiefdom/people, so I know what you are talking about, and can easily find that post again...

New Cultures:
These are still accepted at this time, please refer to the template on first page.

For some reason I can't acess the map. Daftpanzer, can you do anything about that?

EDIT: Don't worry- got it.

Lovely update. Amestris is on the rise!

And yeah, I guess I figured those Amestrians in the Urals and Siberia wouldn't really civilize so quickly. They can be the barbarians then. >=3

Also, map is broken.

Amestris

Priorities: Conquest, Development

The Amestrian tribes of central Russia will begin a sudden and random crusade of pure barbarism and make a great migration south, where they will fling themselves at any empires they meet.

In a similar sense, the Amestrian kingdom will focus on subjugating generally non-Amestrian tribes around them, and develop the infrastructure and civilization of the nation a bit more as well.

Tupistok and Pelonar are not in the list of who controls them. Or are they the vassals under Voresian control.

As promised, I'll leave the Tesnarians to human-slaughter.

Pargians:
1: Reject the religion of god-worshipping
2: Re-orientate to a Meditteranian sea empire

Aelari:
1: Develop the idea that military expansion by force is morally wrong
2: Resist the barbarian invasions

Culture name: Britania
Staring point: Londonium
Description:The Bretons are a civilized people for their surroundings. They believe that they are decedents of the Great Earth Goddess, and must spread their power over all of Britain. Due to their fanatical obsession with the spreading the word of the goddess, their warriors are said to be superhuman, taking several fatal blows before finally falling
Priorities:Expand our influence over Britain. Conquer, enslave, and pillage surrounding tribes

:( My Journey to the North was an excellent idea!

Oh well, I'll work it in next update. Even if it is barbarians at the gates--it can serve as a beacon of hope.

Legend has it that many years ago, the Timiquican Grand Judge Tlexictli had to mediate a dispute between the four kings. During the annual meet, each King espoused the greatness of his kingdom to no agreement. Tlexictli's little island was thus honoured by the presence of the four great kings of Timiquican.
King Nochehuatl of the western kingdom said his case first. "Oh, Grand Judge. It is clear my kingdom is the greatest of all. My people fight the Chuklikan all the time and conduct Great Raids annually. Certainly, my kingdom is the greatest with the finest warriors."
"Not so!" said King Milintica of the eastern kingdom, "Where else but in my kingdom could you find the great forests of teak and ironwood to build your vaunted ships? Without my forests, you couldn't sail on your Great Raids!"
Not to be one-upped, King Xicohtencatl of the central kingdom interjected, "Our craftsmen fashion the finest weapons, our tlamacazque think of the greatest ideas, our yaotl are undoubtedly the bravest."
"All your yaotl would go nowhere were it not for the copper from our mines and our pochtecatl manning your boats," King Achcauhtli joined in the fray.
The argument went on for hours, all four kings forgetting the presence of the Grand Judge himself and shouting each other down with the apparent virtues of their kingdoms.

"ENOUGH!"

The drop in volume was so sudden that the echoes of the kings' arguments and Tlexictli's shout resonated throughout the grand chamber. "I have considered your arguments and have come to a judgment. Each of your kingdoms will send your ships in different directions and take all you can. In a hundred years, we shall see whose kingdom is the greatest of all." Each king looked shocked, mouths open to protest. The Great Judge (who looked as if he had lived that long already) would brook none of it and raised a finger in the air, "I represent the Gods. You shall do as I command."

Thus began the era of the Great Competition. King Nochehuatl would raid the west, Milintica the Kuartl in the east, Xicohtencatl the south (Tulma and Axlmec) and Achcauhtli to explore and take the Eztli Peninsula.

OOC: Being an island group, I was thinking if the Timiquican could be the raiders along the same lines as the Vikings and the Sea-Peoples of 1200BC

-----------------------

Part of the Nanto Chiefdoms will welcome the Timiquican raiders, hoping to use them to consolidate power while others try to fight them off.

Chuklikan Empire ~ Expansion continues at a relentless rate, especially so up the west coast of America. This expansion drives chiefdoms etc to stike up as the locals their attempt to resist the advance. This must come to and end, and...

Tumla Chiefdoms ~ These rise against the Chuklikan Empire bringing its downfall.

The Chuklikan Empire collapses into multiple smaller kingdoms. This breeds new ideas on warfare, and also on the direction a nation should take. Survival of the fittest and ~ 3 should exist by the end of the next era

Kurak Kingdom resists the Chuklikan Empire and expands upon its collase. This Kingdom concentrates on metal work.

the Xanto realize that they cannot maintain their ancient lifestyle in an increasingly civilized world. They turn south, raiding the Central American empires for treasure and food (perhaps joining other "barbarian" hordes.

The Panto temporarily abandon their push west(see below). Their larger city sizes allow scholars and artists to thrive as an elite few who do not have to resort to manual labor as a vocation. Their government operates collectively as a confederation of individual city-states, although Antol is still by far the most powerful and influential. The northern states begin diplomatic relations with their neighboring chiefdoms. Leaders encourage development of mass-producable metal weapons to aid their military goals.

The part of the Nanto who are descended from the Panto, and who have many trade contacts with them, swear fealty to the Panto kings in exchange for their protection against the raiders coming from the south.

The Mystic Xanto continue to spread their beliefs to the Washagon to the northwest (Through trade) and down into the great plains. They occupy the abandoned Anir's Stronghold and convert it to the priestly class's seat of power. The priests hold more sway over these people than their politicians and military leaders do. They finally give their religion a name, Lantan, which in their dialect meant "the path" or "the journey"

Their religious beliefs are altered by the presence of such an ancient and "holy" site from ancient Xanto past. The traditions now not only include star worship, but also ancestor worship. The church is organized in a hierarchy, with the High Priest assuming absolute authority over the doctrine and its followers.

Krilik Kingdom: Bribe barbarians with riches to have them attack the Mavan Kingdom and maybe even the Vara kingdom. Since no strong religion has hit Europe, continue to worship fierce animals in hopes to do better in battle.

Syhin State: If barbarians or hostile forces are moving around outside of the mountains, just hide in mountain temples. Only come out when it is generally peaceful. Spread unity and peace to regions that need it.

Kaj Empire: Begin rebuilding the great walls and fortresses of the old days. Elephants will be used heavily to atrol jungles and other areas to help ensure the safety of the Empire. Trade with the Zuch and try to push Syhinism onto them, sometimes paying more to Syhin-Zuch traders. Basically, become very defensive again and trade with the Zuch, hopefully converting them in the process.
