Alternative Histories: Cold War

You are unaware of the words you spew. Germany and Japan are no longer members of the Axis Powers, the alliance was dissolved. Germany never assisted Japan in any way in thier Pacific Wars, and shortly after WW2 they realized that they really dont like the Japanese that much. I fail to see your weak link having any.....bearings on the situation. Infact, by collaborating with Germany, am I not going against the Japanese in some way?

The Treaty of St. Petersburg

Winter Palace

Two weeks earlier the city was in a state of revolt, but now it was quite. German and Finnish troops patroled the streets and the snow fell slowly unto the quite buildings. Everything was quite and everything was going as usual except for a small meeting room in the old Winter Palace.

When a few days ago the German Army arrived it was led by Leutenant General Vlasov. This man was a legend in Russia and would remain one of the most controversial figures for years to come. He signed up as a volunteer in the White Army during the Civil War, but did not see action and went back to school at the end of the war. Then joined the Red Army as an officer, and made a successful career. Stalin's purges of the 30's removed many officers from the corps, but Vlasov remained, and was even promoted.

At the begining of Operation Barbarosa Vlasov was a General in command of the 20th Army in Minsk. He commanded the defense of the city, but failed, however was not dismissed and led his 20th Army in the first Battle of Moscow, where he showed great courage and skill and was promoted to Leutenant General and given command of the 2nd Forward Army. When he took command of it the army was in disorder, connected to their own only by a short strip of land that was constantly under German bombardment. Vlasov held out against the German onslaught for 3 weeks until amunition ran out, and then ordered his soldiers to break through the German lines towards friendly territory. He was captured.

Realizing that the Russians treat those of their Generals who were captured not any better than the Germans do Vlasov agreed to cast his lot with the Germans. The following few months he organized the Russian Liberation Front and was given command of that army. Made up mostly of Russians who hated Communism and Stalin Vlasov's army was instrumental in securing victory over the Communists and then in keeping peace in the occupied territories. The Liberals and Intellectuals saw him as a hero, the Communists - as a traitor.

So this was the man who arrived in St. Petersburg the weeks following the spontaneous uprising. Due to his popularity he managed to arrange a meeting with the leaders of the Russian Resistance Movement, and on that gloomy evening in the snow-covered city of St. Petersburg he was signing the document that would give Russia back its independance.

The treaty outlined the borders for a new and independant Russian Federation. An independant and sovereign nation, free of German control, with its own military and industry. A nation that would stand together with the Germans in their fight against the Communits who have ruined the country for so long. Vlasov looked down at the document and then quickly signed it, in a quick, momentary motion, that gave independance to his homeland, made him the acting President of Russia, assured a continuous fight against the hated Communists, and gave Russia new friends to rely on. All in a single stroke of pen of a Great Man.

Excerts from a Speach by Leutenant General Vlasov

vlasov_konr.jpg

Vlasov addressing a meeting of loclal governments

`I have seen that the Russian worker has a hard life, that the peasant was driven by force into kolkhozes, that millions of Russian people disappeared after being arrested without inquest or trial .... The system of commissars eroded the Red Army. Irresponsibility, shadowing and spying made the commander a toy in the hands of Party functionaries in civil suits or military uniforms ... Many thousands of the best commanders, including marshals, were arrested and shot or sent to labour camps, never to return.'

`I saw that the war was being lost for two reasons: the reluctance of the Russian people to defend Bolshevist government and the systems of violence it had created and irresponsible command of the army ....'

`(We must) build a New Russia without Bolsheviks or capitalists .... '

`The interests of the Russian people have always been similar to the interests of the German people and all other European nations .... Bolshevism has separated the Russian people from Europe by an impenetrable wall.'

This wall was about to come crumbling down.

Russian Executive Council

The Leaders of the Russian Liberation Front quickly became the new Executive Council which took over the role of governing Russia in the transition period. While their political beliefs ranged from Fascist to almost Socialist they all hated Communism equally much and were all Russian Patriots.

Italy request the Russian Federation that Italian observers are allowed in to observe the new government in action.

To the Italian Government

It is possible that the Russian Federation will consider allowing Italian observers into the country to observe the functions of the government, however in order for that to happen the Italian Government will need to justify such a request and state the reasons for it.

Colonel Maltsev

To: Russian Federation
From: Italy

We would like to know how the Russians intend to run their new country and determine if any innovations from Russia can be used. We would also like to determine the stability of Russia.

To the Government of Italy

Since Russian Federation and Italy are now allies, there is no reason why these observers should not be present, so they are welcome to Russia at any time.

Moscow, Greater German Reich

With the apparent signing of the Russian Treaty, the Russian Federation will soon be in control of the old Soviet capital of Moscow once more. Many citizens , most of them German immigrants from after the war are heavily protesting this turn of events.

In the south the Nationalist Forces of the Ukraine have stated that while they support the German Reich and look towards them for guidance, they shall fight the Russian government and refuse to bow down to St.Petersburg. Simialr statements from groups all accross this land have been made.

Several groups have claimed they would rather live under Finnish rule then put themselves under another Russian tyrant.

Meanwhile the apprent German policy of 'Germanisation' continues in this territory, making the people more and more German and having the increasing German minority take control. Every year many thousands of Russias are deported to camps in Poland or flee to the Federated Soviet Republics.

Many Russian groups have also stated that they will refuse to work with any new regime as they feel that they are traitors for working with the German Reich.

Munich, Greater German Reich

In a depressing turn of events a group of vetrans from Operation: Barbarossa, the German campaign in Russia during the Second World War, have begun protesting the government to not ratify the Russian treaty.

'It would bring about the collapse of everything the Aryan Race has worked towards since the great Hitler held the Chancellorship' said Johannes Drucker, a Captain ret, who drove a Leopard Panzer in Russia.
'Goebells would betray everything the German people and National Socialism have seeked to build in granting us the lebensraum that Hitler provided' stated Heinrich Jager a Colonel retired who commanded the 23rd Motorsed Infantry Division, one of the first units inside Moscow when it fell in 1943.

The German Chancellory has yet to pass comment but this unbridled display of public dissatisfaction with the government policy in Russia holds powerful portents for the German Reich if they continue down such a path, and thus the world may yet again suffer another shift in political climates.

Leutenant General Vlasov in St. Petersburg

After the Germans changed their mind and refused to ratify the treaty signed by the Russian General Vlasov refused to cooperate. He resigned from the German service and remained in St. Petersburg with the Executive Council, now renamed the Executive Council of the Russian Liberation Front.

Old Russian officers who fought against Bolshivism flocked to the city. Zakutny arrived from exile in the north, Blagoveshchensky appeared out of nowhere, Shapovalov and Zverer arrived from exile in Siberia.

As the sun rose over the old building of the War Ministry the Russian Liberation Front prepared to defend the city. Vlasov and Maltsev addressed the crowd of supporters and begun building up the citie's defenses. As the first German soldiers appeared on the outskirts of the city Generals and common volunteers stood shoulder to shoulder ready to fight and Vlasov said under his breath, "Lets show them what kind of people Russians are, we'll die, but we will give them hell."

The line of the brave Russian patriots stood across the center square as the sun rose higher over the building that used to symbolize Russian Strength and Power
