Am I the only one missing Sweden as a Civ?

I just have to say that all you guys who think Sweden can´t be in the game because they are already represented buy the Vikings are idiots. It is like saying France can´t be in because Germany alerady are.
And Sweden was much more powerful than Denmark. And Denmark had thier hight in the viking age, so you could say the Vikings represent Denmark. Sweden had its hight in the 17th century, and were at that time the biggest power in Europe after France and perhaps Spain and England.

I'd like a couple of new leaders for the Vikings! And also, change the name "Vikings" to "Scandinavia" or "Norse". That way, we can have both a Danish leader and a Swedish one, though not in the same game regrettably.

Europe is already overly represented and while one could make the argument that sweden or denmark deserve a civ spot, they just weren't as powerful as the other major european powers (though Celts being a civ is a bit of a stretch by this standard). At the height of its power, I don't think sweden can compare with the English, Spain, France, Germany, or the Dutch at the height of their power. 4 of these 5 countries are still influential in world affairs today, whereas the Scandinavian countries are not because of the tiny populations.

My heritage is 50% Swedish/Danish so I have much <3 for them.

Sweden is certainly a valid option for a Civ 4 civilization, much more so than some of the already included civs. While I understand many of the comments in this "old" thread are meant to be humorous, I would also understand how several of them could be taken as rather insulting to a large population's culture.

I fail to comprehend much of the resistance to the suggestion that another civ be included. The new civs, their UBs and UUs are one of the things that help keep the game from becoming stale.

It also wouldn't be overly difficult (except for leaderheads) to add some scandinavian civs. Just need valid ideas for UUs and UBs along with leader names, traits and city names.

Remember what G'Kar said: "All known civlizations in the galaxy have two features in common: religious belief and the dish that the humans call Swedish meatballs."

As for unique Swedish unit: the leather cannon invented by Gustavus Adolphus might suit the purpose. They were devastating on the battlefield. Hm - come to think of it, that *might* add some variety. No existing civ in the game has some kind artillery as a UU, do they? Except the Korean hwa'cha, which is an early weapon, a catapult.

As with any civ: why not? The more the merrier. There are mods with Sweden and Sweden modulars so put one in. Gustav Adolf would be the best choice for leader. But not sauna as UB; that should be for a Finnish civ.

Good work by those guys, but I'll stick with mine (from an old comic-strip called Pottsy) as it reflects my personality as a lazy time-serving civil servant, which is, to get back on topic, actually quite Swedish.

(No hate mail from Stockholm, that was a joke. I love everything about Sweden, especially the pretty girls and little meatballs, and excepting the ridiculously expensive alcohol).

Just don't agree with Sweden needing to be included in the game. The only real impact Sweden had on the rest of Europe was Gustavus Adolphus in the Thirty Years War and serving as a convenient little marker as Russia's ascendancy following the Great Northern War.

How about a special corporation? Call it ABBA, takes a Great Artist to found, and when spread to other Civs' cities it subtracts from their culture (say, -5/turn).

Personally, I think we should just lump all the countries that are blatantly part of overall EMPIRES together. England, "America" (should be called United States), France, Germany, Spain, and Portugal should all be incorporated under the Roman Empire. I mean, let's face it, Rome never really fell. It just split up to help with maintenance costs.

Greece can have its own.


Russia should be another Empire.

Then Arabia.

And China can be it's own.

So can Japan.

Native America, the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans can all be lumped together and get a severe hit on research (like once you hit the medieval era, -60% science in all cities).

Shaka gets his own.
