Amazon email: Preorder Edition is on backorder

I cancelled my order with Amazon- they can't just keep changing the dates like that. I ordered weeks ago in September thinking that that would actually mean something- and nope- they just change the shipping dates on me even though I paid for overnight. I've placed an order with Gamespot.

Just cancel and get it from somewhere else - it the only way to show them not to mess customers around

yep mine just changed to:

Shipping estimate: October 27, 2005 - October 28, 2005
Delivery estimate: October 28, 2005 - October 31, 2005

I pre-ordered on 10/13 so I SHOULD be up there in the queue, if that is actually how they're going about it. Any one know for sure?

oh, well... I waited this long for Civ IV, guess a few more days won't kill me.

What! I ordered on 10/7 an it says nov 3 for me, and i am annoyed because i wanted civ 4 before 1st quarter exams:(

Same here, if i can find it in a store i'm cancelling my pre-order, it still says shipping 24th-26th and delivering 26-28th. i also ordered it on the 19th so i probably got a long wait:mad:

Look on the bright side; you're moving up the list pretty darn fast with all the cancellations. :crazyeye:

As for me, I went a couple miles down the road from my office and secured a preorder copy from Gamestop. I was guaranteed that I will be walking out of the store tomorrow with Civ4 in my hands (and only then will I cancel my Amazon order!) hehe

I complained to Amazon and they have now changed by shipdate to Nov 1 at the latest and refunded the 1 day shipping cost. So I will sit back and wait, get the version I wanted in no time this will all be forgotten.

Now the Amazon page says, "usually ships in 2-3 days", which would be a couple of days before my scheduled pre-order.

I, too, ordered from amazon around the 4th of the month. My ship date was oct 29 as of last night (10/24/05). Eventhough their main page (and every other retailer) said they were shipping 10/24/05. I thought this odd, and called amazon. They confirmed that it was backordered with no ETA. I immediately cancelled the order, and placed one with gamestop. Gamestop just (as of 10/25/05) changed the status to 'shipped' for me - about 18 hours after I placed the order. Should be here tomorrow. Not trying to brag, just a heads up to any amazon people, that you might want to reconsider your order with them.

My order status still hasn't changed! I ordered the pre-sell on Oct 4. Estimated ship date still yesterday (the 24th)

Anyone think that Take2 might be purposefully reaming Amazon for undercutting everyone's price?

I'll give it a little more time, but may end up pulling my order also, especially if it hasn't shipped by the weekend and I'm near a store carrying the game. I certainly have no loyalty to Amazon. They aren't quite as politically right-wing as WalMart or K-mart, but they are still more conservative than liberal when it comes to their political donations.

Mine isn't showing any shipping estimate it just shows that it hasn't shipped yet but it shows "Delivery estimate: October 25, 2005." Why?

I just received an answer to an Email asking about my order status to Amazon.com. ....the important stuff below:

Sometimes unexpected fluctuations in supply can add time to our
original availability estimate. We have learned that "Sid Meier's
Civilization IV Presell Edition" is now back-ordered, and our
supplier has not been able to let us know exactly when they expect to
have more in stock.

To help compensate you for this unexpected change, I have upgraded
the shipping method for this order to One-Day shipping at no
additional charge. I've also waived the shipping charge for this
order.

The estimated delivery date displayed in Your Account for this
shipment is now October 31, 2005 - November 01, 2005.

:( I cant decide whether to wait and take advantage of free overnight shipping or cancel and look somewhere else.

I canceled because I was tired of their crap. They want my buisness they can be straight up about delays. So now I'm driving 40-140 miles tomarrow to get the game. yay me.

I better Bloody get my copy of Civ tomarrow or i Will be knocking some heads around.

Gadzooks...waiting for them to respond to an email -- currently it says estimated shipping today -- now I just want to know when...bah...

If mine doesn't ship by the time I get off work tomorrow, I'm shooting off an email to Amazon. I'd love to get a free upgrade to overnight (faster shipping, and saves me the $5 I'm spending on standard shipping).

I'm not in too much of a hurry to get it, seeing as no matter what, it won't get here before the weekend. (And bear in mind: overnight shipping does NOT include Saturday delivery, most likely.)

Damn now I can't even check my account, as it's reading:

Yes I did...hopefully that's the case -- but hey it's kinda funny -- reminds of those people going crazy for cabbage patch kids...

I don't care about the pre-order version. I cancelled my Amazon.com order and am going to BestBuy or EB after work today to pick up a regular copy.

I never order from Amazon for this very reason I went through EBGames. I ordered it Oct. 21st and got an email today(25th) saying it was shipped and since I got overnight it will be here tomorrow.

I love these comments. I've pre-ordered at least 10 games from Amazon and every one has been shipped on the same day as ebgames. This is the first time that is not the case. I don't blame Amazon at all for this. Something happened that caused their shipment to be delayed, and I'd be more inclined to blame Take2 than Amazon.

I don't blame Amazon for an apparent publisher/distributor delay but I do blame Amazon for not picking up the ball and notifying me of the issue ASAP. I imagine I'd still be in the dark had I not called and inquired about the status of my preorder.

However, AMazon has made good with me and I'm still a customer but I'll be a bit more wary with preorders. ;)
