Amazon Troubles

Note to all other pissed-off people: I just went ahead and canceled. I called the local Gamestop and picked up a pre-release edition a few minutes later. I recommend that people who also ordered from Amazon do the same.

Good luck! :)

No wonder Amazon missed thier earnings estimate.

I planned to cancel my order as soon as I got home from work today, but it changed to "Shipping Soon," so I can't cancel, only return it after it arrives, presumeably at my cost. I guess I'll just have to wait until Friday. At least I got free shipping out of the deal.

Same thing happened to me, which is why I did not end up picking up the game on the way home. Amazon has also not answered my email requesting that they forgive the shipment $. We'll see.

It took them about twelve hours to respond to me, but when I checked my order, the shipping cost was changed to $0.00 about an hour after I sent the email.

I canceled my Amazon order today at 10:30AM. they just dont inspire confidence in me...still showed a Fri shipping estimate.

Ordered at EBgames 5 mins later and they have shipped it today and i will get it tommorrow :)

Ummm one positive note to those that still have an Amazon order... all the cancellations will probably help ensure we can get the presell version we ordered and not the regular order which otherwise could have run out.

However, I still have to wait a week for my order to ship from Amazon and per some of the other posts in this forum I should expect a French poster and two disk 1's! Yippeee!

I just got a "just shipped" e-mail from Amazon.

It was supposed to arrive earlier today, but at least its in transit now.

Anybody else's ship yet? Mine has said "Shipping Soon" for about fourteen and a half hours now. That's a pretty lax definition of 'soon' if you ask me.

I preordered on Monday along with ordering Windows XP. I orginally picked Free Shipping, but yesterday I changed it to standard shipping. My order is now shipped and I have a Tracking number from UPS. It says delivery estimate is 11/2, but I bet it gets to my house a little quicker. I have to install Windows XP before trying to install CIV. Hope that goes OK.

I preordered on 10/21 and got a ship date of 11/1 and receive date of 11/12. It won't let me cancel because it is being processed for shipment and shiping soon.

Since I'm not sure I would be able to return a PC game I'm hesitant to buy one someplace else instead of waiting.

Just called up Gamestop a couple minutes ago- 4 copies of the special edition in stock (extra)! Heading up there in a few hours. Thats the last time amazon gets any buisness from me! Thanks to all of you who posted that you cancled and STILL got the special edition from Gamestop :) now I can enjoy the game too! lol.

My amazon order shipped last night approx 11pm, UPS picked it up in Louisville this morning 11am and the UPS site says scheduled for delivery tomorrow. They also sent me a note last night after my "WTH" email and refunded my 2day air delivery charge.

Though I do agree w/Stuie at this point:

"Amazon, books...
Games, EB (or Gamestop or even Best Buy).
Amazon, books..."

Done. I'm trained.

I ordered socks through Amazon once. Seriously.

Count me in with pretty much everyone else that pre-ordered with Amazon.com. :( I just went to my local Gamestop and picked up the presell edition (note to others that do the same: it shows "Special Edition" on the box, not specifically presell edition, but it appears to still have the extra goodies), came back and cancelled my Amazon order. :D

Well... when I went to cancle me order- as some have already said It's to late to cancle for me, but i got upgraded to 2-day shipping at no cost because of my email :) and should get it by the 31st or before so I'm content. Heres the email I got in return:

I've checked your order and can confirm that we are currently
preparing it for shipment. I have upgraded your shipping to Two Day
Shipping at no cost to you. We now expect to ship your item in time
to be delivered by the date listed in Your Account: October 31, 2005.

We will send you an e-mail once your order has shipped. Please
contact us again at http://www.amazon.com/contact-us if you do not
receive this shipment confirmation by October 28, 2005.

Items listed as "Usually ships within 24 hours" typically take up to
24 hours to package and prepare for shipment, but can occasionally
take longer. As you may know, we have several fulfillment centers
across the U.S., and the items in your order may sometimes be in
stock at different locations. When you place your order, we estimate
your ship date based on the proximity of inventory to the delivery
address you provide, as well as how quickly we can obtain and
assemble items for shipment.

I apologize for any misunderstanding.

I'll live a couple days! lol.

This thread convinced me to check on my Amazon order. It said that it would ship Oct 29th (!), and estimated delivery on November 9th (yeah, I took the free delivery option).

I decided not to wait. Gamestop still had two copies of the "Special Edition", which seems to be the pre-sell edition. Now they have one, and I have one. And Amazon has one less order.

Here's my Amazon story: I've had very few problems with Amazon over the many years I've been a member. This is the first time I ordered a game from them and it's been pretty darned confusing.

I pre-ordered Civ4 on the 23rd and had a shipping date of 10/26. When it became clear that the 26th ship date wasn't going to happen, I figured I'd change it to overnight shipping (since it was only $3.99). Well... that was a mistake. For some reason, my ship date was changed to 10/31. Oh good, I get to spend extra money to have it later, so I changed it back to 2-day shipping.

I sent an email asking about the ship date change and was told pretty much what everyone else had been receiving. They upgraded me to free overnight and gave me a $10 promo code for my next purchase.

As I sit here waiting to see if this thing will ever ship, I happened to look at Civ4 on Amazon and it now says "Usually Ships in 24 hours". Hmmmmm, so I canceled my previous order and re-ordered it with overnight shipping and used the Promo and I just got an email that said it's shipping today and will arrive tomorrow.

Their shipping practices are really confusing but by canceling and reordering, I was able to get it earlier and $6 cheaper. If you can cancel, I agree with others, try to pick it up at EB or Gamestop. I tried my EB at lunch today and he refused to sell me the Special Edition, insisting that edition was for pre-sales only. He dangled the regular box in front of me and I was really tempted but I wasn't going to give him my money.
