Amirsan3- Diety Newb Attempt- Join!!!!

980 Up luxuries to 40% and reMM everyone. We're wasting a lot of shields on build turns. That needs to be watched. Wake the fortified workers in Umma and move them back towards home. Can't save the Cav sitting in Babylon territory. What is he doing there? I like most of the builds. Don't change anything. Restarve the Babylon towns. Notice Korea marching a Great Leader past Ta-Tu. Can't do anything about that. Why is Bangalore smoking? I understand the enemy towns but Bang is a big producer. There's pollution near Lahore but we can't do anything about it. There's no point in keeping the Babylon cities so I disband both, bringing the units into Jaipur.

BT we lose 3 cavs to 3 cavs.

Jaipur resistance ends, Bangalore recovers and build rifle. All rifles ordered this turn.

990AD Move troops, rush barracks in Jaipur. Send Elephant to Tiensin to quell the idiot still waving the Chinese flag.

BT Babylon loses 3 cavs attacking.

1000AD We position a lot of units on the mountain in striking distance of the Choke Point city.
Sign MPP with Korea for 15gpt. Hope this isnt weed.

BT Babylon has 3 cav attackers retreat. Korea declares war on them.

1010AD We capture and keep Zariqum for its rail access. We move a SOD including combat setter to choke point.

1020AD We found Ganges on the river at the choke area. Workers move to make a fortress on the other choke tile.

BT Lots of cavs attack, killing 1 rifle and 1 cav in Zariqum but the town holds with a lone cav.

1030AD Reinforcements are moved forward. The way is narrower now and our stack concentrates. We strike the other town, lose 2 cavs and then raze it. The pennisula is cut off, only Tell Wilaya remains but they do have ships on the inner sea to reinforce. Switch Ulaanbataar to Universal Sufferage, no because I think we need it, nor want it but because I can store shields for our FP.

1040AD Tell Wilaya razed losing 2 cavs and retreating a third. Establish a force on the gem mountains and expect to be hit hard.

BT NOTHING!

1050AD Catapult bombards Babylon's gems and destroys the road.

If we get coal, we can trade it to Korea even though theirs is connected and in their territory? It won't last long I think but for now, try to focus on getting another. Fortunately, our borders just expanded to incorporate one. Send workers there.

If Korea completes Universal Sufferage, you need to switch Ulaanbataar.

We still have an MPP with Korea. If you want to play dastardly, sign peace agreement, with a gpt deal for Babylon's 2 techs we're not researching. Then, when Korea is attacked, we declare war and our tech deal is for free. (Our rep is already shot.) To get the cash, drop luxuries to 0%. We don't need any lux% if we're at peace, make the deal and everyone will be happy until we redeclare, at which point, we get our gpt back. Then check if we can trade for another tech from Ottomans since I think they're behind Babylon.

Once you get some settlers built, abandon Zariqum and found a city on the x (near the salt peter) and SW of the rubble (or wherever you feel is not a big flip risk but covers the pennisula from the other AI trying to settle it. Don't forget to starve off the other babylonians and the Chinese too if possible. Once peace is settled. Switch everything over to infrastructure. We have enough rifles to play zone defense and we will always be able to switch from building to military. The key is Ulaanbataar's Forbidden Palace. And the ironworks soon after that, to the west. After those two the rest should build up the market>bank>stock line with courts, factories and temple/cath as appropriate.

I didn't look into the possiblity of a worker factory. We need to get a worker per turn or two factories making 2 workers every other turn. Much of our core is unimproved. Prioritize Ulaanbataar. It's stuck as size 8 happiness wise. I'd rather not waste time building market until the FP (aka super court) is done. As such, mining and railing the grassland will help get the FP faster than irrigating for growth will.

Try to get stacks of 12 slaves or 6 workers, mixing is a pain and ineffiecient. We still need the rail net complete in the north. I decided to get some core cities going first though. We're still vulnerable from a Korean sneak attack, and they have infantry (a lot) but we've come this far. Let's see what we can do!

The save is here

Korea completed Theory of Evolution. They have a hugh tech lead. The only way we can catch up is to buy cheat and steal. The buy and steal part need lots of cash so hence the priority on banks/stock/wallstreet. We will never be able to do our own research so don't bother with relatively expensive librarys. Until Cathedrals are built.

The cheat part is about peace settlements for tech, paying large sums of gpt, then declaring war. This only works if you put a hurting on the AI and you have spare gpt. It's also an exploit. At this point, our rep is shot and we have a long haul to pull out a win so I'm not opposed to using this exploit to help us along. If we don't do this, we are going to have to hit Babylon's core to make them give us a tech. We are going to have to wait until the MPP is over before settling for peace. It's the next players call.

Got it, will post sometime tomorrow but, I think, CF is off on the weekends so I'm not going to be rushing it.

Edit: Played - abit tired tonight to post, so I will do so in the morning. Which means CF can either play it the afternoon or we can wait until Monday or so.

I am now back from camp, so feel free to put me in the rotation again :).

Tsuke@ Welcome back! Ready to pull a win out of the fire?

Belial@ this is the second time you've failed to post when you said you would.:( I know the game is moving slowly and is a fairly low priority, but with 3 kids and a non-civ-loving wife, I like to be able to plan ahead for free time. Please post updates to when you think you will post if you can't make it by the time you posted last.

Amirsan@ did I hear correctly that you're getting a laptop in a day or two? Hope you can join us again!

What kind of win are we going for? I really don't have time to read through the turnlogs. Screenshots would be nice too.

The short update:

We were way behind in tech.

Belial set us up great to stomp on Mongolia (who has now been destroyed by the Zulu)

We got an MA with China to attack the Ottomans, just to keep the two at war. We claimed the Ottoman cities in the south.

When the MA ran out, we switched sides and attacked China (ControlFreak attacked a turn or two early, ruining our rep.) Got an MA with Ottomans and Korea.

We used war elephants to beeline to Beijing, capturing the Great Library and getting 21 techs for free! We became tied with the leaders for 2 turns but have since fallen back. China got crushed and ended up with their capital on the horse island to our south (that we should have settled before) They have since flipped one of their old cities back from us.

As soon as we were the tech leaders, Babylon declared war and (Belial again) watched in Horror as we lost all our Eastern cities upto and including Bombay and our forbidden palace.

We signed Korea in an MA and continue to MA or MPP with them. The war with Babylon turned with the help of Korea, we took back our cities on the eastern pennisula, razed the Babylonian ones and settled two new ones in their place. Bombay was also resettled.

Despite being at war with just about everyone, we've decided that a Diplomatic victory seems most achievable. Korea has warred and hurt the same civs that we have. The Zulu are the only ones that neither of us have fought. We think that if we prebuild the UN, buy our way to fission, MA with Zulu and everyone else against Korea we can win the vote 2 to 1.

My feeling is that buying that many techs before Korea builds the UN or the spaceship for that matter is going to be the hard part. We have little or no improvements past the ancient age ones. My thoughts are we need to prioritize banks/stock exchange. Forget about doing our own research, and save for new techs. We can buy from Korea with GPT if they are at war with China (and possibly Babylon depending on how Belial's turn went). If not, we need a lot of hard cash. That's going to be difficult.

I have further hampered our infrastructure by putting us in Mobilization. We can't build anything non military, but we can build units as if we're in a GA. I did that to have enough units to fight Babylon. I've stayed there to build up our riflemen defenses. I think we should get to the point where we have almost completed a rifle in most cities and then get peace, canceling mobilization and switch the mobilization shields into courts/banks/stocks. We did get a few factories built before the Mobilization started so those will help. As always, we need more workers. The railroad and polution is starting to make that a higher priority than before.

Notes about mobilization:
You can build barracks/workers/settlers but they don't get the shield benefit. You can build rifles/cavs and other units and do get the shield benefit. You can build towards rifles to get the shield benefit and then switch to worker to complete it. There is a war academy article that I found over the weekend. Most of it is common sense.

If he doesn't post by Thursday, take the save, post on Friday, and I'll play and post over the weekend, and hopefully he'll be OK by then.

Tsukemono5@
I was the last person to play before Belial.

Whether or not Belial returns, you may grab it (say Thurday will give Belial enough time) and play over the weekend. I've got company coming into town and will be too busy for civ (mostly). Post a got it when you think Belial is not coming back and guesstimate when you'll post your save so I can plan ahead. I think Amirsan is getting a new computer in three days so he may be able to get it after you. If not, I will, but not before Monday.

My *curse* computer died, therefor I don't have the save, nor the game at the moment.

It's a two hour drive to the place that replaces it (it's a gateway, and you lose warranty if you let anyone else touch it. ) I was told it's the motherboard, but it's all under warranty so it should be fine. However, if I don't get my computer back by tomorrow, I won't have it until Monday.

Sorry for the inconvienence, and no save. This is also my first time back (at momma's house ) and I'll get to check in again tomorrow to let you guys know what's up.

As for only the Zulu/diplomatic victory. We haven't messed with Japan, Zulu, or the Koreans... the Ottomans are the only ones we have that are still around, or, will be around for a while.

I think we can remove the Chinese with ease and then either focus on the Ottomans or... try to appease them. Of course, this is a problem because any and I do mean any cash we make, has got to go for brokering science which will be sold to us at 2nd rate which is extremely expensive. I don't think the Babylons will hold what they have with the Koreans recoming into the war. I can't even remember how far I dug into them to be honest.

Anyhow, that's what happend and I'll drop a message tomorrow.

Belial@ thanks for the update. I assumed your computer had crashed. I think Tsukemono5 will have no problem waiting until Friday if you think you can get the saves posted by then. Please post today and let us know if you can manage that or not.

We did capture a Japanese city in addition to capturing the Ottoman cities.

You keep talking about eliminating China but we need Marines to do that. I don't think we have time to research an optional tech before getting to fission. At this rate, Korea will have launched before we have Flight. I hope you hit babylon's core. If we hurt them that badly, we don't have to worry about them anymore.

We know that Korea will be our opponent. Korea has also hurt China/Japan/Ottomans/Babylon. They should all be no voters or vote for us because Korea has done much more damage. The only variable left is the Zulu. That's why we have to butter them (and only them) up.

Babylon should actually become our trading partners once peace is signed. Ottomans, Babylon and Zulu should all be trading partners. We wait until they get a tech ahead of us, buy/steal a different tech from Korea and sell it to the other three for thier tech/gold, preferably ending up giving the tech to the Zulu to make them happy. The problem here is that we have a bad rep so we need a lot of cash. Our build priorities once out of Mobilization should be market/bank/stock. Horde cash and try to stay within 1 tech of the three and not to far back from Korea.

When the time comes, we declare war on Korea, MA with Ottomans at least. Preferably with all of them. And MPP with Zulu. We need to get into bed with the Zulu! The vote should have 4 abstain, Korea votes for itself and we get us and Zulu. If the vote is a tie, we have to be able to hold off Korea.

Keeping Korea at war with Babylon and China does 2 things. It slows their research to help us stay close and it allows us to trade gpt for their techs. So I agree with another war with China, I just don't think we're going to be eliminating them. Were it not for war weariness, I'd stay at war with China forever. If by some chance they do get eliminated, the there is nothing we can do to buy techs with GPT.
