Amirsan3- Diety Newb Attempt- Join!!!!

But first a small quiz:)

On my turn the following happened: (multiple choice - EDIT: It's a multiple choice test silly, pick one of the following!)
A: We turned the tide on Babylon and recaptured two cities.:hammer:
B: We lost a city to CHINA:eek:
C: Our friends the mongols were eliminated.:p
D: I find out we trashed our rep sometime ago and can't buy tech with gpt.:(
E: All of the above
F: None of the above

Multiple choice - OK
How about E & F?

Judging from the save, I'd say we recaptured two cities from the Babs. Our rep shouldn't have been hurt because on my turn I had no problem signing people up for war and I'm fairly sure we had no trades going o... oh we had a RoP I think, which they broke but that wouldn't affect our rep.

Then again, the Mongols were only two cities and at war with the Zulu, so it's probably likely they were removed.

Unfortunately our credit is a little stained. But not a lot. We can pay gpt for WM but not for techs? I guess they just charge a lot of interest on loans?

TURNLOG (forgive me if its not pretty, I pulled an all-nighter to get these done.)

0 800AD
Rush barracks in Punjab so it can start making units ASAP.
Switch top 4 cities to factories all due in less that 10 turns.
Karachi would need 19 turns so it switches to market instead.
All 1spt towns switched to temples except Kafa (harbor) and Almarikh (already has temple)
Draft rifles from 3 towns over size 6 that has entertainers due to WW. (they're unhappy and unproductive anyway, this will reduce WW but add draft which evens out.)
Whats left is Bangalore 10spt rifle. Calcutta 7spt elephant, Chinan 6spt court due in 9, Ankara 4spt elephant due in 18, Anyang 4spt court due in 16 Ulanbatar 4spt court due in 6, Chitagong 2spt, market due in 21.
Turn the F***ing Governer off as their priority is all wrong. Turn on governer for the cities that are still rioting except for Chinan where I need the extra shields.
Switch from sanitation to electricity losing 3 turns of research and hire a scientist in Karachi. Change as many entertainers to taxmen as possible. Now making 100gpt instead of 89gpt. Stupid governor.

Wake all units (some appearantly on gotos). Wake most workers as almost all of them don't know we're at war or have steam or something. We should be building a military railnet and connecting saltpeter as soon as possible. Not cutting jungle in a town that doesn't need it. Not mining a mountain that will take forever. Not chopping forest in a town that needs to use the golden age shields. Etc, etc. Put them to work railroading and roading to help troop movement. Note that workers on saltpeter mountain will finish mine next turn so might as well finish and start road next.

Using catapults first I take 3HP of tree different cavs. Then using elephants and 1 rifle:
Killed
cavs=5
Knights=3 including 2 elites
longbow=2

Lost
elephants= 2
rifle=redlined

There are 4 cavs protected by a rifle on one of the mountains. A veteran cav and veteran knight solo on two other mountains. I've tried to occupy as much of the ridge as possible. If I can force them into the valleys, we and Korea can kill them. Since Babylon will attack with rifles, I leave them alone and hope they attack units on the mountains will the odds in our favor.

With the horde coming from Babylon, we only have three cities building units. To maximize unit ability, i switch to mobilization. Bear with me this is a first. Note that there is an exploit to get infinite shields. I am trying to avoid this. Build times drop by about 6 turns for the three units we're building. Next turn our aliance against china runs out so we can get out of mobilization any time we want. Just need to declare peace (I think)

Bite knuckle and hit enter.

BT
our redlined rifle on the mountain killed 2 cavs and 2 rifles on defense promoting to 2/5
our elephant on the hill killed cav promoting to elite
we lost 4 elephants that I had to leave in the valley. 1 attacker redlined in forest but covered by veteran.

China and Korea sign peace

Punjab built barrack order elephant.
People offer palace expansion.

1 810AD
Troops move to take the high ground and protect wounded.
Kill regular cav and wounded elite cav in forest but leave redlined and yellowlined elephants on plains and forest repectively.

Up lux to 30% from 139gpt to 100gpt. Start firing entertainers to get better production and happiness through income. This drastically raises spt as we only have 3 speciallist in our productive cities. Still getting 117gpt so we only are losing 22gpt in entertainment this way. More MM drops to 117gpt but gains 4 turns on factories and the market goes from 20 to 8. Remember to switch a tax guy to scientist.

Korea tells me that our rep is shot thanks to China. No more gpt for techs. That may be the nail in our coffin. Looking back, this could only have been my fault. I declared war on China. I didn't think I had any deal active but I guess I was wrong. Sorry guys.:(

Change preference to not animate friends nor enemies but show battles, don't show our manual moves, don't renegotiate.

BT turns
Counter attack knight kills redlined elephant and then retreats to Kolhapur. Catapult misses rifle. Then most rifles retreat to Kolhapur. think the Korean SOD is making Babylon fear a little.:)

Mongols ask to renew China MA. No thanks. Korea gets them to MA against Babylon so they declare. Korea asks to renew ROP and I agree.

2 820AD
No attacks. Looks like GA ends next turn.

BT Babylon kills 2 korean cavs and a knight losing 1 cav. They sink our inland galley with an ironclad. Korea kills three rifles and some other units. Ottomans have arrived and have 5 siphai in striking range.

Zulu eliminate Mongols. Japan reups their embargo against us with China.
Ulaantabar riots because of lower gold as our GA expires. I scroll ahead to save the rest. Then the advisor tells me the GA is over. No SH*T!

3 830AD

Kill 2 cavs and a rifle capturing catapult, losing 1 elephant and leaving a 4/4 on the plains next to Kolapur. I cover it with a rifle but don't want to commit to much to save the poor guy. We now have 6 cats 2 rifles and some ele on the mountain buy kolhapur. Next turn we'll see whats left after the Koreans and Ottos have a go.

Babylon will accept 20g for peace and our rep is trashed already but I sense we're getting the upper hand near Kolhapur so I wait to see what transpires in between turns.

Lahore drafts (second) but now that we're not in GA it cant pay for happiness so I lose a productive citizen.:smoke:

Since we can get peace with babs now I don't need China. We give peace straight up. That ends an embargo with Zulu against us.

BT Babs kill our rifle/ele pair on the plains as well as a redline Korean cav. A ton of cavs and rifles stream into the area surrounding Kolha.
Ottomans advance and kill 1 bab cav.
Korea loses a rifle before its army retreats the solo cav off the mountain next to Kolhapur.

Appearantly mobilization turned itself off.
Karachi market>cav.

4 840AD

Kill cav on plains with MI and leave him unprotected even though he promoted to 5/5
Position troops to attack anyone using the old Bombay road. There is a rifle sneaking this way.

Lux still at 30%. Still going for

BT
Babs loose 5 units
Ottos loose all siphai but one who retreats redlined.
Koreans loose some cavs and rifles and army is down to 5HP. But they gain the mountain next to Kolha.

Delhi factory>settler. 30spt is nice but I'd rather resettle Bombay and get a nearby gem.
Speaking of which, Tatung flips to China. That looses our current supply of gems. Lahore riots. I scroll ahead.

No attacks. I try to sneak a pike in to pillage the road from Kolha to Bombay.

BT
Pike kills cav! then dies to a second. Korea has bad RNG luck and loses a ton of units both offense and defense. But they throw their whole stack at Kolha and get it down to redlines! Now's our chance.

Delhi built settler>cav.
Disease strikes Almarikh.
Calcutta ele>settler.

First ele is successful in killing 2/4 cav to recapture Kohlapur! It has Barrack, duct, 3 bab resistors and 2 indian entertainers. Kill cav in new border and retreat to kolha. Move all SOD ito Kolha. It's a big flip risk but I want to keep it. Upgrade 14ele to cavs.

I set us to mobilize again thinking we can get faster cav builds and still get out of it soon as peace with babs is near. Dehli now builds cavs every 2. Babs will give us all 24g for peace! Note that this also breaks our MA with Korea giving us 25gpt. But, if Korea is out of the MA, they will get peace and then turn on us and kill us. They have a ton of rifles in our territory and all our troops are on the front. Need to use mobilization to build up some back defenses too.

BT babylon kills korean rifle with a 2/4 cav that goes back to their town. Then a new SOD appears in Kolhapur. longbows covered by muskets! Korea kills all but a few longbows.

Bangalore rifle>rifle.

Ulaanbataar goes on starvation to half the court time.
Railroads are starting to connect.

Elite rifle goes fishing on longbow (theres 2 so he will stay in Kol). Wins but no leader.
Cav kills other.
Cav kills next one in bab territory.
What the heck, I attack rifle at Hyderabad. With muskets and longbows rolling in, maybe Babylon is out of gas. Get it to 2HP before we die.
Cav kills next rifle. and see the first 2/4 rifle!
Cav kills 2/4 rifle and Hyderabad returns to the fold. 2indian, 2 babs. Set to walls. Galley shows no reinforcements yet.

BT we lose our worker stealing cav to a cav. Two more bab cavs mount the mountain near Hyderabad.
Koreans take advantage of our new roads and attack near the end of the Bab railroad but die anyway. Some settler pairs are getting close to claiming our land but I have no place to build them.

Dehli cav>cav,Karachi same, resistance ends in Hyderabad. Change Delhi to settler and mm for more food. We can still build cavs every 2 turns at size 9.
Hyderabad rushes walls. Troops move. Workers rail. I left Hyderabad troops fortified but you can wake them if you want to hit the cavs on the mountain. Either we hit them at 6 v 6 or they hit us at 6 v 6. It might be better to use the elite cavs to hit them though or they'll end up being defenders after the rifle loses HPs.

Since our rep is trashed, you can settle for peace any time you want. That will affect our ability to pull in partners for MA's though. Good luck.

BTW, the Ottomans have a settler pair in our territory and a galley making its way around our southern coast. Watch out for them settling on the old chinese site. We need to get a settler there ASAP. Rush the one started in Calcutta if necessary. Go find the Ottoman galley with our galley now that it's not needed for scouting. Block the coastline if possible.

Also, as soon as Ulaanbataar finishes its court, give it some food and start it on the new Forbidden Palace. It will be well positioned to grab the chinese aquisitions and will make the ironworks city viable.

The SAVE

Someone please post screenshots of the reacquired territory as well as the flipped gems city. I'm too tired.

I agree on the goto crap, that annoyed me more than anything else and units on goto.

For future references, make sure not to have units on goto, so confusing. Most of the units that were on goto I mainly left, hoping to find out what they were doing.

Alright, I'll look at it tonight, post by tomorrow.

This really doesn't seem to be like a SG though :p

Belial, if anyone can get us going in the right direction its you.

Sorry about the computer problems Amirsan.

Belial, take your time. I think with just two of us we can take our time. When Tsukemono returns we can get moving again.

amirsan- out
Takeo- out
Belial- Got It
ControlFreak- Just Played and Ondeck:crazyeye:
Tsukemono5- skip until 8/11 (is that right Tsuke?) but still lurking.

Welcome to 2 player SG.

I'm guessing it's pointless to advertize for more players considering they'd be jumping into the fire.

BTW
A couple of thoughts before you continue.

Babylon
I don't think we should get peace with Babylon for several reasons.
  1. Korea will likely not attack us while were MA'd together.
  2. We can build up our military much faster in mobilization (turn it on if I forgot to do that.)
  3. War Weariness is nearly as bad as it can get (it shouldn't get much worse) and Republic will not drop into anarchy. Note that Korea just dropped into Anarchy and Babylon is already in Monarchy. Keeping everyone at war in substandard governments slows them down.

Once we have enough military to defend ourselves then we can get peace. If we can regain the wine pennisula all the way to the Mountain region, all the better. Remember that all towns are flip risks so starve/raze cities that were babylons.

    Forbidden Palace
I know I said in my turn report but it bears repeating. I think we should get the court in Ulaanbataar and then start the FP. Don't bother rushing the court though because I don't think we can start it in Mobilization. We should also start working on the Chinese city to it's west to get the ironworks going after we're at peace too.

    Workers
We need to get a military rail net FIRST. We have no troops and many unprotected cities. Having the rail net will let us use a small army to defend a larger area. Once all cities are connected then we can start working on boosting production in the core. Remember to prioritize bonuses (game, wheat,BG,etc like we did back in the ancient times) and do flatlands first before tackling the hills and mountains. That way we have more completed improvements earlier. Keep an eye on a cities spt when prioritizing. (do a 19spt city before a 21spt city to reduce the loss on a the last turn of building something.)

Forgive me if I'm telling you stuff you already know, I just think we need to make the most of everything we have if we're going to win this thing. Good luck!

BTW, I think the Zulu's will evaporate if we chose to go that route.

I'm going to analize(sp) the save once I open it. I didn't get a chance to last night although I did get it. Just a matter of time, will probably be tonight but I'll explain the pros and cons of the game.

Alright, here's my idea on exactly what we should do.

I agree, we should stay in war, since domination is really our only chance to pull this one out. Our rep is trashed and we still lack a pre-build for ToE and hoovers, with luck, we can draw leaders but it's unlikely. Our chances are greatly increased as long as we stay at war. The railnet should be our number one priority, in fact, I'm going to draft countless workers from our corrupted cities, there is no point in even having them build if they can't even use a produce a valid shield. With the railnet hooked up, we can keep flinging troops towards the Babylons and as long as the MA continues, we'll hold. Once the Babs and Koreans make peace, it is ideal we do so as well. Once the MA ends, we may want to dial them up to war the Zulus, if they're still around just to keep them off of us. Once peace is established, then we hammer the Chinese, even if it's just bombarding their city because of the lack of amphibous warfare, at least their city will only have a palace for culture and never reach pass size one with 3-5 firegates on it. If the phoney war falls through with the Zulus, I suggest we priortize on making a quick mash of the Ottomans and this time we keep SOLID defense down in the peninsula and some offensive units wandering around in case the Babs (which I think they will) do try to sneak attack again. The reason for taking the Ottomans is that we're going to have to do it sooner or later for domination, we mine as well hit them while they're still small although that Siphai unit is a real pain compared with what war units we are using now.

The FP will go as mentioned, the best place to be and the only city actually capable of building it without taking an obscene amount of time. The workers I draft will then be used for infrastructure. Once the FP is built, we have to make the surrounding cities upgradable and fast, pre-builds for factories should be in the works, even if it's mainly corrupted, it's shields we will save (it might not even be bad to rush granaries to speedup growth).

Regarding workers, definately agreed, as players, we take real advantage of the railnet vs. the ai, we should use this to our biggest benifit. As mentioned before, I'll be drafting workers to speed this process up. I figure we should have two to three workers per city so our infrastructure is done three times as fast, you can never have enough workers, and if we run out of tasks, we can eventually merge them, but I higly doubt we will with our domination persuit.

The tech issue is going to be the biggest concern - what are we going to do? Our rep is trashed, we're only in the beginning of the industrial ages and we have no universities. This, I fear, is what is going to be the end of us. Sure, we may put up a nice battle and strike the heart of the Babylon, but we really don't have any defense for the aftermath, it takes a ton of calvary to take infantry down and getting to tanks with no universities in our core is abit out of the picture. I'm not sure in what way our rep is trashed, but I don't think we can trade any luxuries because I tried offering all three and not a single person would take them. I think even with a trashed rep, we can still straight up buy techs which means building banks, but the war at hand and future ones which we -will- need will lack the the build of them.

Then there is the peaceful way - it's unlikely, but still worth a shot. We end the war with the Babs as soon as the Koreans do, we still hit the Chinese just because they're a royal pain in the rear. We then infrastructure for just cash and try appease everyone with donations and aim for a diplomatic victory, we may need to get the Babs at war for this to work but it's still a win to chalk up.

I'll wait to see what you think before I play my turns, I imagine the Koreans will end the war soon and then declare on someone else. Who is the question and may also be our determing factor on which route to go.

Edit: We're also a religous civ, it might not be a bad idea to drop in and out of monarchy if we continue to drag this war out. Heh, apparently you can't draft workers either :p, whoops.

I like the beat on Babylon plan.

Definitely Ottomans and Zulus are good too. If one has rifles and the other doesn't kill the one that doesn't. Unless someone just got it. Then hit them before they can upgrade too many.

What we can due about rep is pull people into war with China. They are small so it will be cheap. No one can eliminate them yet so ic an last forever. If a civ is at war with the civ you broke agreements with then they will trade gpt with you! Just wait like 20 turns to erase war weariness caused from last war with China.

Good idea about switching to monarchy if war weariness gets worse. But we need commerce right now to buy/steal techs. Sincce we;re last on the list, stealing is affordable and doesn't give gold to the opponents.

Go get em!

Belial, I don't mind slowing things down ... but if you say you're going to post, please let me know that somethings wrong. Don't just no-show and leave me wondering if the thread is dead.:(
