[BTS] An attempt at 15XX AD Deity Space

Mansa rejected 120 gold beg when I could beg ~220. That should not happen unless his gift falls into the same category as beg. I keep record of all my trades/begs. Of course I could have forgotten to write down something, so I flicked through the relevant screenshots and no, I did not beg anything. I don't think there is something wrong with Land Target either, its clearly 9/9 land tiles.
Spoiler :

Edit: BTW, do unit upgrades count towards "Guns Not Butter" quest? Tried to test but its such a rare event:(

Huh, that is really weird.
Before your failed beg, when was the previous beg?

I think the previous beg has a 5% chance to be forgotten each turn, so you may have just gotten a bad streak.
Most people can beg safely around every 25 turns, but every once and a while a series of bad rolls make the AI never forget.

Keep the save, and after the game is over try loading it again and play around with it to pin down the problem.
Beg for 10 gold instead of 120.
If Mansa accepts, then the issue is elsewhere.

That's the point, there weren't any. I have the save but not sure whether I saved before or after the beg. For some reason I only have AD autosaves... Well, at least I will be able to provide more deatailed info on the situation. Perhaps, there was nothing unusual, except may be I just was unusually stupid:lol:

T57 Mansa got Currency. Begged 30 gold.
T126 DoW Gandhi. Yeah I'm slow:blush:. Captured 2 cities without loses. That was some luck, expected to lose 1-3 cuirs.

Mansa rejected my beg and I bribed him against Gandhi.
just have a couple of questions. When an AI gives you a tech like "The Malinese people are feeling quite generous today", does it count as a tech trade for WFYABTA? Does it affect the amount of gold one can beg from the AI in question?

Mansa gave you a free tech?
That might affect begging?, but I'm not sure.
It happens so rarely, it is impossible to test.
That's really a very good question! :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

100:science: is worth the same as 75:gold: for begging.
Which tech was it?

Also, if you really begged Mansa 30:gold: on Turn 57, then the odds of him refusing you because of it wayyyy later on Turn 126 is 0.95^69 = 0.029 = 2.9% or staggeringly small chance.

Also, a freely gifted tech in trade? I'm pretty sure it would count towards WFYABTA

1. Mansa gave you a free tech?
2. 100:science: is worth the same as 75:gold: for begging.

1. Yep, he gave a free tech.
2. It was Masonry, which equals 101:gold: if I got it right. So if it counts as a beg it would be very close, roughly 220-101=119:gold: available for beg. But perhaps it just triggers begging timer? The gift happened on t46, the beg on t78. That can be tested by begging 1:gold:.
3. The game where I begged 30:gold: on t57 was played a few weeks ago. Sorry about this confusion. I'll start another thread for my current game as soon as it's finished and submitted. Probably, tomorrow. Not sure though, the endgame is a bit of a mess:(

A couple of questions regarding submission:
Am I allowed to share saves once I see "accepted"?
When does 3.19.003 obsolete?

Is it allowed to pile up beaker overflow by researching small techs like archery when your bpt is huge? It has essentially the same effect as the hammer overflow exploit; that is you can one-turn anything once it is unlocked. There aren't many such techs though, so this exploit is limited.

That "exploit" seems to be of limited use. Maybe it makes sense if you are waiting for a trade to unlock a critical tech. But yeah, the fact that there are only a few techs that make this possible (archery, monotheism, horseback riding come to mind) is a huge limitation. The tactic also slightly slows down future research of other things, since a few beakers are being wasted on those rather useless techs.

Ya, once the game has been looked over and officially accepted, it is safe to share the save.
However, I usually wait until I see my game on the HOF table a week later before I start replaying turns or sharing saves.
Just to be safe. :)

No idea when 3.19.003 obsoletes. :dunno:

I wonder, why Elizabeth is a popular leader for Space on Deity? She is such an amazing vassal. It's the same as with Mansa; he is a good leader, but you want him as an AI.

Liz has Philosophy and Financial, 2 of the strongest traits for a Space Race game.
Only Darius and Incas are more popular I think.

Sure.
It is a good tactic to use to get a huge overflow while your empire is busy producing a Great Person to bulb a tech.
