King
I've been playing this again lately (instead of working on a paper i have to do) and have been having a really good time. I'm playing as rome; it is 388 BC and i have taken all of italy, iberia, north africa, greece, and am starting my assault on persia in both thrace and egypt. and while i am a mighty force to be dealt with, its gonna be a tough slog through persia (especially since they built the scourge of god wonder).
in a few weeks i may (with your permission) attempt an edit of this wonderful scenario. first, i would like to bring the pedia up to date. I too had a tough time figuring out how to assault a city amphibiously because of the lack of info. it would also be nice to know what my wonders do! this is no jab at you, because i know you are busy with other scenarios too, but i am planning on doing a simple entry stating what every THING does. so for imperial legion, the pedia would read "builds road, fort. Amphibious. +1 hp" or something like that.
but in addition to that, i have a number of changes that i think could refine the scenario.
1) i want to slow the tech progression down. im researching byzantine techs at 390 bc. this isnt a huge problem i guess, but it is pretty far off. i have lots to do and will have nothing to research very soon. i want to increase minimum turn times, make some unique techs for each civ, and disable trading of certain techs.
2) i want to remove pollution as completely as we can. this means giving all buildings a negative pollution number and adopting the "no size 3 cities" technique from CCM. we just adjust the settings so a city can grow "forever" without needing an "infirmary". wont make any real differences and will make walls more useful for a longer time. im thinking size 1 would be pop. 1-15 and everything bigger requires an aqueduct.
3) i want to revisit upgrade paths, unit rosters, and micro regions. in this game, although i am almost at the byzantine stuff, i can still build imperial legions. why would i ever not build them? so they would obsolete/replace them at the barbarians rise tech... or something. but as for the microzones you have, i really enjoy this. but it could have so much more done! i would love to be able to (for example) only build legions in italy, but post marian reforms allow for building them elsewhere. and for that matter i think it wouldnt be a terrible idea to put in marsh clearing at a later tech so that rome (or others) can connect bits of their empires when larger standardization occurs.
4) i think several generations of settlers should exist for certain civs. it makes no sense for barbarians to just explode in numbers at 500 bc. nor does it make sense for italy to have such pop heavy settlers. ill need to look into the specifics, but i think these numbers should be adjusted and change with time.
i know i have other ideas too, but im tired and shouldnt even really be thinking about this now! haha, stupid work!
but what do you think? its a great scenario and i would love to see it get better.
