Animated avatars?

I really struggle to identify posters without Avatars.

I have that same problem. Although, if several posters use the same avatar, the same issue comes up.

Though on topic, I am happy with the avatars the way they are. I would much rather have 100x100 size avatars, then smaller sized (64x or 70x), but be allowed animated ones. Basically, I am fine with animated avatars, I just don't think they are necessary.

That's their main benefit. My only problem is that I tend to think of most posters as looking like their avatars. For instance, I just assume that Abaddon is a purple haired female fighter pilot.

You can add avatars you don't like to your ad-block list or whatever else you might want to use. There are relatively easy ways of getting rid of avatars, even just animated ones, automatically. So it's not the end of the world if you personally don't like them.

It's 6kb now. Still ridiculously small. Makes you WORK for that awesome avatar though.

I think he ment the file size limit, not the dimensions of the avatar.

Exactly. If you could have a file size, say 10Gb.. what difference would it make? I can't see what more you can do with a 100X100 picture that we don't already at 6kb.

For a gif you need X times as much file size, where X is the number of frames, naively. So a 10 frame gif would need to be no more than 600 bytes.

Yes, but animated avatars are banned. I mean within a still image. Increasing the file size limit would mean nothing.

Host them offsite and it won't matter to CFC how large the files are.
