Ank06 - 3CC Conquest

Someone play it. :hammer:

I will be away from the net & civ for 10 days from the 17th to the 27th, BTW.

I PM'ed Yoshi. If he hasn't grabbed it by my lunch hour. I'll take it and play.

OK, I've got the game. I'll start playing now. This doesn't look like anything I'll be finishing soon. Dispatches will come as necessary.

Pre-flight – 1650 AD – Why do we have a horse colony? Oh a deal with Abe. Very well.

Glad someone rushed a musket before they gave the game to me.

Military check – 7 muskets (one on the horse colony), 6 cavs (one on the ivory colony and three in the army), and two cannon. That means we have exactly three offensive units on the home front. Yes, boys and girls we are in deep kimshi.

Carthage looks like they may be holding their own as are the Aztecs. Hopefully Abe can hold out and absorb some Arab attacks.

We’ll play a holding game for a while. A turtle needs a shell.

IBT – Entremont: cav=> cav
Ludg: musket=> cav

1. 1655 AD – We have a leader. I’m going to use him on a cav. Move our new musket up to the saltpeter.

IBT – Ludg: cav=>cannon

2. 1660 AD – Start building some forts along our western frontier.

The Aztecs have taken Richmond from the Arabs.

IBT – Alesia: Cav=>cav

3. 1665 AD – Start gathering up our small army on the frontier.

We have some cash, let’s look at speeding research. We can get steam in 27 turns at lone scientist or 27 turns at 100%. What a concept.

4. 1670 AD – Two parts of our sieve-like Maginot line are completed

I think the Carthaginians have retaken one of their cities. Things might be looking up.

IBT – Entremont: Cav=> musket

5. 1675 AD – Our new cav kills a barb threatening our iron.

The Arabs have captured the Aztec city to our southwest.

To be continued….

Turn 5 – 1675 AD – IBT – Lugdunum: cannon=>cannon

6. 1680 AD – Short rush a musket in Entremont, using a MDI.

IBT – Entremont: Musket=> musket
Alesia: cav=>cav

7. 1685 AD – Whack a barb horse with my cav in Entremont.

Short rush a cannon using a settler. Science to 10%, put lone scientist to work for a few turns.

IBT – Abe wants to trade TMs, no thanks.
Lugdunum: cannon=>cannon

8. 1690 AD – Short rush the cav in Alesia & musket in Entremont.

IBT – An Arab Infantryman steps forward to be killed.
Entremont: musket=> musket
Alesia: cav=>cav

9. 1695 AD – Our cannon go 1 for 4 against the infantry.
1st cav is redlined taking one hp
2nd cav loses 2 hp, kills the inf and promotes.

Our allies are starting to fold. The former Zulu city of Umfolzi, which was Aztec, is now in Arab hands. Plus the Carthaginians have lost Russadir.

Short rush the cannon in Lugdunum.

IBT – The Arabs are finally reaching us. We go 1 for two against Arab cavs, losing one cav. An Arab rifle approaches our front.
Lugdunum: cannon=>cannon

10. 1700 AD – The Arab rifle is redlined with cannon. Kill him with a cav, then kill the redlined Arab cav with a cav. No loss on either attack.

After Action Report – Here’s the way I think we need to approach this one for the next century or until Abu starts to fade. We build a fortified front, and then walk it forward. This way we can control the territory and not have anyone building behind our lines, and we can have some defense while inching forward.

I’ve been leaving a cav in Entremont to cover any barb incursions.

Try short rushing as much as possible. If you don’t know what I’m talking about pipe up.

Here's the Western Front:

ANK_06_1700_Western_Front.jpg

The red lines are where we should build forts to complete our Maginot line (yes I know the Maginot line failed, but I don't think the Monarch AI is smart enough to beat it)

The yellow dot is a good location to launch an assault on that Arab city from.

Remember combined arms, we need cannon, cavs and muskets.

Well played Bugs -- way to get that mess I gave you under control. :clap:

As far as research goes, I think we can hire a scientist and slowly starve a city to get a little bit more income. We can switch this off between Entremont and Alesia: while one city slowly starves, the other builds back up its granary. However, I'm saying this w/o looking at the save, so it may not be worth the extra money spent short rushing the cavs (due to slight production loss) combined with the loss of commerce from turning a citizen into a scientist.

I think (IIRC) that both Alesia and Lugdunum were going to starve or lose the 20gpt if I moved the lone scientist to either one, but it wouldn'r be the first time I've been wrong today.

I do believe that Gengis is UP!! (Hope that didn't hurt his hangover)

Nice job and planning, Bugs. I was able to peep in now.

yoshi74 - somewhere away
Sir Bugsy
Gengis Khan - UP!
Bede - on deck

REMEMBER: 24h to post a got it, 48h to post the save.

Gengis has been MIA for at least two weeks now in his own Training game. Bede, why don't you take the game.

Okey-dokey.

Pick it up tonight.

I really enjoy these succession games where players are in a tight spot, keep it coming!

:)

It is now 1735 and Abu has broken our line, wiped out the cavalry army and the rest of our dragoons, taken most of our artillery and has troops behind the lines in the mountains heading toward the capitol, half a dozen effectives, including a cav army...

He calls up and sues for peace and will pay us 900g for the privilege of our continued survival, N.B. I said pay us

So do I take his money or call his bluff? There is something going on in the hinterlands that I cannot see which would explain his sudden lack of interest in our destruction...

So, take his money and breathe for 20 turns, or don't and pray he turns aside...

If he's behind our lines and we've lost our artillery, it sounds like we're on the ropes. I'd take peace and hope the others can hold out. I'd also start researching again.

Wait a minute, he's going to pay us? What in the world for? Are his cities rioting from massive war weariness? I'm just trying to think of a possible explanation for paying us for peace versus wiping us out in less than 10 turns.

Sorry for going MIA guys, I'm back though.

I'm back too. :)

Weird... Abu's wiping US off the planet and will pay US for peace? :dubious: This needs some investigating...

When I went to upload the file and the post the log I discovered they had been accidentally deleted. :eek: :(

You will be hearing from me tonight :crazyeye:
