Anno Domini beta : test it and feed back here!!

However, don't forget the Marcomanni!! Actually 9AD seems like a good year for Germanic tribes; I'm sure other victories over the Romans are recorded in this year.

I'm unable to access your website for some reason.

A bug to report from the exploits of Byzantium against the evil Egyptians (and the lurking menace of the HUGE Serbs from across the sea)...

File Not Found:
Art\Units\Quinquereme\QuinqueremeFortify.flc

Again, I don't think there's anything wrong with my install and when I looked into the folder the file indeed was missing. Would copying then renaming the fidget flic do the trick so I could use this unit?

Still having plenty of fun...the Glassworkers house is a great building. I appreciate its rewarding of healthy trading.

I'm unsure why that would be; I've not had any problems myself - any other issues with the website anyone?

Thanks for the feedback! I'll look into it; I'm sure that doing what you suggested would be a good temporary fix.

In that case, may I suggest that you use one of the following for one of the main Germanic representatives:

- Alamanni and Teutons (as you have listed on your site)

- Turingii/Thuringii (Doringe) - Some good information that will help with creating advantages and strengths for this civ :
Turingii/Thuringii were excellent horsemen, either evidencing relations to the steppe people of the East or that the Turingii confederation included people that migrated to their area from the steppes. Their practice of inhumation (inhumation burials rather than cremation) and horse burials indicates a relationship with the East or that the confederation included those from the East--probably both. The Turingii included members of other tribes that were part of the Chernyakhovsk culture.

- Batavii: The Batavi tribe, originally part of the Chatti, migrated between 100 BC and 50 BC from North Hessen to an "island" (now called "Betuwe") between the Waal and Rhine Rivers in the Roman province of Lower Germany. They were excellent horsemen. Today the area includes Rotterdam, Sleidrecht, Geldermalsen and Tiel in the Netherlands. The Batavii tribe was mentioned in The Notitia Dignitatum of the 5th Century AD. The Batavians revolted in 69 AD under the Batavian leader called Gaius (or Claudius) Julius Civilis ("Julius Civilis") near the border between Germany and the Netherlands, near Nijmegen (their capital back then was called Noviomagus Batavodurum).

- Cherusci: a germanic tribe settled around the Rhine and the forests of western Germany. Were principals in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. Arminius, a Cherusci leader, wiped out three Roman legions under Varus. (this is one of my prefered ones)

Just some ideas I'm throwing out there. I know you'll make the right decision either way, and you did have a good point with wanting to stress smaller tribes more. :goodjob:
Thanks for posting this, it's most useful. I was actually thinking of finding an early Dutch tribe and it would seem that the Batavii might fit. How about them having a dyke as a unique building instead of a harbour - allowing the advantages of a harbour plus extra shield in all worked sea squares?

That sounds awesome! I'll be interested to see what you use as a unique unit (may I note that I will be making some Germanic units in the near future ;)).

Hear, hear...

This guy will be started on very soon:

He's not the only one that I'm considering though. ;)

The Egyptians were closing in on a trade victory and had to be stopped. After capturing their capital city, I was notified that I destroyed the Egyptian spaceship. Now, I'm aware of the conspiracy theories out there about aliens and the pyramids, but I didn't know they had worked their way into this mod ;)

To rectify this problem, I looked into the Script.txt and have the following adjustments to suggest:

#comment SPACESHIP_PART = one of the twelve merchant houses

#LOSTSPACESHIP
#advisor Science Angry
The $CIVNOUN0 have destroyed our merchant houses!

#DESTROYEDSPACESHIP
#advisor Science Happy
We have destroyed the $CIVADJ0 merchant houses!

#SUMMARY_THEIR_SPACESHIP_PART
#advisor Science Surprised
The $CIVNOUN0 have added $SPACESHIP_PART1 to their trade empire!

I'm not sure if its better to refer to this as "their trade empire" or just as merchant houses, so I did a mixture...for what it's worth.

So, what do you guys think? Any suggestions for improvement or do you think he's ripe for animating? I will be making some minor color changes, by the way. (NOTE: The picture in the bottom right is what he'll most likely look like at civ-scale)

By the way, you may have noticed the weird lines all over the shield. That's unfortunately due to the fact that utahjazz' Celtic Shield prop is not made for my purposes, and I actually had to align the Germanic eagle over the bracings on the front of the shield, meaning the image is actually not flat as it may appear (I tried to get it as even as possible). If anyone has an oval shield more fitting for my figure, I'd appreciate it if you could send me it. That is unless someone feels that it looks fine the way it is.

Wow and thanks, I believe is my first comment!!

The wow obviously goes to Gen. Rommel for that marvellous looking unit!! Fantastic is all I can say!!

Thanks goes to Micaelus for pointing out something I never would have thought of. I'll amend that immediately!

In other news, how about this:
The "classic" mix doesn't actually have Asian civs after all, nor the Nubians, but replaces the Florentians with the Batavii, the Serbs with the Slavs and the Nubians with the Marcomanni. The spare culture group goes to Celtic civs, giving them a different look to the other Europeans.

In other BIQs, we get the Nubians introduced along with other African civs, with the "no resources required for land units" coming into play as an African generic benefit. There is a particularly Asian BIQ bringing in two new culture groups, the Qin-Silla-Yamato culture group and a SE Asian group, to include the Khmer and Siam. This BIQ would include the Indian group and possibly the other two cultures would be the Middle-East and Mediterranean - so a non-Euro BIQ.

A separate BIQ would then deal with some Dark Ages/Middle Ages civs, where we see the Florentians and Serbs making a reappearance along with civs such as the Franks and Normans. The rule of thumb for this BIQ would be that the civ were active after around 500AD.

How does all this sound?
