However, don't forget the Marcomanni!! Actually 9AD seems like a good year for Germanic tribes; I'm sure other victories over the Romans are recorded in this year.
Great! If you remember, I did Fritigal about a year ago and there's a link in my signature.I like the sound of the Marcomanni, myself.
I'm unsure why that would be; I've not had any problems myself - any other issues with the website anyone?I'm unable to access your website for some reason.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll look into it; I'm sure that doing what you suggested would be a good temporary fix.A bug to report from the exploits of Byzantium against the evil Egyptians (and the lurking menace of the HUGE Serbs from across the sea)...
File Not Found:
Art\Units\Quinquereme\QuinqueremeFortify.flc
Again, I don't think there's anything wrong with my install and when I looked into the folder the file indeed was missing. Would copying then renaming the fidget flic do the trick so I could use this unit?
Still having plenty of fun...the Glassworkers house is a great building. I appreciate its rewarding of healthy trading.
Thanks for posting this, it's most useful. I was actually thinking of finding an early Dutch tribe and it would seem that the Batavii might fit. How about them having a dyke as a unique building instead of a harbour - allowing the advantages of a harbour plus extra shield in all worked sea squares? In that case, may I suggest that you use one of the following for one of the main Germanic representatives:
- Alamanni and Teutons (as you have listed on your site)
- Turingii/Thuringii (Doringe) - Some good information that will help with creating advantages and strengths for this civ :
Turingii/Thuringii were excellent horsemen, either evidencing relations to the steppe people of the East or that the Turingii confederation included people that migrated to their area from the steppes. Their practice of inhumation (inhumation burials rather than cremation) and horse burials indicates a relationship with the East or that the confederation included those from the East--probably both. The Turingii included members of other tribes that were part of the Chernyakhovsk culture.
- Batavii: The Batavi tribe, originally part of the Chatti, migrated between 100 BC and 50 BC from North Hessen to an "island" (now called "Betuwe") between the Waal and Rhine Rivers in the Roman province of Lower Germany. They were excellent horsemen. Today the area includes Rotterdam, Sleidrecht, Geldermalsen and Tiel in the Netherlands. The Batavii tribe was mentioned in The Notitia Dignitatum of the 5th Century AD. The Batavians revolted in 69 AD under the Batavian leader called Gaius (or Claudius) Julius Civilis ("Julius Civilis") near the border between Germany and the Netherlands, near Nijmegen (their capital back then was called Noviomagus Batavodurum).
- Cherusci: a germanic tribe settled around the Rhine and the forests of western Germany. Were principals in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. Arminius, a Cherusci leader, wiped out three Roman legions under Varus. (this is one of my prefered ones)
Just some ideas I'm throwing out there. I know you'll make the right decision either way, and you did have a good point with wanting to stress smaller tribes more.![]()

What do you suggest? That sounds awesome! I'll be interested to see what you use as a unique unit (may I note that I will be making some Germanic units in the near future).
