I had never seen at production team work so well in all my days here. This is great while we wait!, being so invloved with the process I mean .

Dig the new Persian unit. Now all you need is that mischevious opium smoking goat in tight with Xerxes mutant crew! You seen the movie. ... Big Papa Persia : "Pass that sh#t goaty! :smoke: Yah boyeeeee"

Did I miss something? I could have sworn that Rob was at least going to release a preview on May 9. I was really looking forward to it as it was my birthday. Am I the only one that noticed?! What's the matter with you guys? Where's your anticipation? :bounce:

No offence Rob but when you say May 9... and then confirm it a couple times... even if it is just a preview... well lets just say I was extremely disappointed :( .

:D Good! I was just wondering, seeing as most sites say they had a wicker rectangular shield, but I figure you've done more homework to that extent :)

The Persian looks great, too!
Would you happen to have any Carthaginian units planned? :mischief:

The shield has a wicker interior; the Sparabara in the true sense had large rectangular shields (the name means "shield bearer" or something like that) and their main job was to protect the more vulnerable troops - like archers. However, they had spearmen with shields as per my picture and I've been advised  that they can be called Sparabara as well.

Oh yes ;) . Carthage is next on the "list" after a stay over in ancient Greece :) .

Oh my god! :faints: You are the best, Rob! [/schoolgirl]
I've actually done some concept art for some Carthaginian units, if you are interested.
Spoiler :
Though it might be in your best interest to say "No, no, RedAlert, that's fine, there's no need, really, thanks anyway." :D

I didn't mean to disappoint anyone, but I did place an update in the thread; basically, we went from 20 to 31 civs - and that increases the workload; there's been more research and work go into this that it became impossible to release a demo at that time. I am hoping to release the demo in a couple of weeks - but don't forget that this won't cost you a penny and I'm dedicating a heck of lot of time to it ;) .

By all means, share the artwork, but I know my limits and what I have in mind ;) .

Sorry for the multiple post, guys, but I simply must show you my version of the Greek hoplite. I need to sort out the tunic and cape with some of the animations, but this doesn't stop me from showing you how he's looking!! Should he be a unit available to all Greek civs, or uniquely to Athens?

Of course. That's why I was a bit hesitant. :)
Besides, you have lots of work to do and I wouldn't want to make things more difficult.

Here's a few, rather sad, drawings of Carthaginians:
*note: I intentionally left the shields void of design (I wasn't any good at drawing anything on them.)

The fellow on the left is from the Sacred Band of Baal, outfitted with some rather fancy and very greek equipment. He and the rest of his unit are the elite of the Carthaginian army; all of them Punic nobles trained from an early age in the Spartan style.
The other two are an African Heavy Spearman and Swordsman, shown wearing chainmail and Montefortino style helmets they would have taken off the bodies of their fallen Roman adversaries. Of Phoenician or Libyan ancestry (or both), these guys were the core of Hannibal's army and fought notably at Cannae.

By all means, take whatever features you want (if any), and alter till your heart's content, and according to what you think your limits are. I thought I'd share these, really just to give an idea or two. I don't know what type of units you are including/planning to make, so really, don't think of these as anything more than as possible inspiration.
Thanks for your interest. :)

EDIT: .... And if they look half as good as the greek you posted above, I will die happy!

I'd have thought a cape to be clumsy in a battle. At any rate, i'll repeat- it looks great!

Greek hoplites had capes? :)

It's just a cloak, not a cape. It served a lot of purposes off the battlefield. Just like a lot of the crap we wear in battle today may not be all that helpful in a fight, we keep it with us for afterwards.

Looks great Rob
