I only have one minor minor request/wish/thing. If you're going to call it Éire, then i'd love it if you'd put the accent mark (in Irish known as a Fada) on the first E :)

and apparently from DNA tests and from their religion they were distantly related to the Vikings
Interesting... could it be traces of the Gothic/Gepidic inhabitants of the region?

and waily waily waily, no Goths in AD! How will I now break the Romans?

Well, Gepids came there later (first Dacian settlements are ~600 BC, oldest surviving being Tomis/Constanta, from ~400 BC, from where Heretic_Cata is :D) but there might be a connection to them, I'm not sure. From the evidences, apart from DNA tests, there are quite a few similarities: first the aspect, Dacians were blonde haired and had mostly blue eyes, they were happy when someone died and sad when they were born, their graveyards greatly resemble Viking ones, etc. It's just a theory, it's not widely accepted. :)

In a future incarnation of Anno Domini, I may wish to focus on the Norse; if so, I'll have a seperate culture group for them. Here's the metropolis for each era - made up from separate era artwork by different artists:

If in this version of Anno Domini I decide to have Normans, Kievan Rus and Goths, would this style be suitable for them as well?

I'm not sure about whether these are suitable for the civs you mention, but where did you get number 2 from? I love that metro. :D

Thanks Rob, it's a very interesting city style. Now that I've seen the thread it seems just a bit too big compared to the other cities in the game. Perhaps it could be shrunk 10%?

Whilst I do see what you mean, IMHO it looks perfect ingame without it needing to be shrunk.

IF it looks perfect in game than by alll means use it Rob...:goodjob:

Amazing city graphics, very unique.
Thanks for your comments. I'm using these graphics for the Norse. I guess the question is whether or not they'd be suitable for Normans and Goths...where's Ares and Hrafnkell when you need them ;) ?

Here. If you use city style 2 for the Norman early ages (around 911), it's ok. From that point on, use style No.4.

They're suitable for Goths if you accept their own tribal legend of a Scandinavian origin. The problem otherwise is that the Goths always were a minority people in the Kingdoms they created out of the Roman Empire; Ostrogothic Italy, Visigothic Aquitaine and Spain, and the architecture there continued in the Roman style.

Since you have an Indian civ in, any chance you might use my Nalanda University graphics? :)

There's every chance!!

Thanks for all the comments, guys. I was hoping that the Norse city set would be useful for the Goths and Normans, but if not, then fair enough. Would it be ok for the Norse?

Just so that you can compare the Euro set I'm using, here's the metropolis in each era for that culture group:

Quick question: should I use basically the same units for Rome and Florence - with the exception of UUs?

Also, what should be the UU for Florence?

Obviously I need to change my notification settings so I become aware of conversations as they're developing!

But better late than never, as they say...

Number 2 is based on the Trelleborg fortress in Denmark. What I was thinking about when I made it was the Jomsvikings, more than, for example, a trading settlement like Birka or Hedeby, developed over a period of years. But I made the arrangement of the buildings more haphazard in an attempt to make it look more like a "town" than a military "camp" so that it would have a broader usefulness in scenarios and mods. I wanted to create a distinctive "Viking" style and this is the result.

The question of its size came up when I first posted it but it was tested in game and actually is the same size as other cities. It appears larger because of its uniform shape - it fills more of the square. But vertically and horizontally it's no larger than other cities.

As for its usefulness for the Normans, I agree with Ares (as I often do!). Since I was trying to create a "flavor" I'd think it was suitable for Goths as well. I agree that a hill-fort style could easily be made from this for the Celts.

Finally, I'm honored that Rob has found it suitable for use in Anno Domini. Thanks, Rob!
