Anno Domini update

Good call on Nabatea. As far as I know, the main Arabic group to achieve any kind of prominence outside the peninsula in late antiquity was the Ghassanids, who established a kingdom somewhere around Jordan and for a brief period in the sixth century were an important ally of the Byzantines against the Persians (the Ghassanids were Monophysite Christians). The breaking of this alliance over mutual accusations of treachery led to great hatred of the Byzantines among many Arabs - a possible influence on the events of the following century?

They were led by a phylarch, who at that time was al-Moundhir.

R8XFT hey from your new list:
24. Thrace
31. Thrace
Well spotted, thank-you. That gives us another civ slot we can use!! However, who should take that last place? How about the Alans? If so, I could do with a city list...
Antiochus VII suggested Numidia or Berber...what do other people think?

You didnt want to include Vandals and Carthage, because they would have a almost equal city-list. The same thing it is with Parthia and Persia: The Parthians were Nomads who founded an empire within Persia after they defeated the Seleukid Greeks who ruled Persia before.
Parthians could be seen as a persian Rulers-Dynasty, like in later times the sassanids, who on their part dispersed the parthians.
So: Perhaps Parthia should be no own Civ, but there could be some nomadic Horse-units in the persian tech-tree to represent their Rule and influence on culture and warfare in Persia.
I take your point; however, Parthia was very much wanted by people in the original version and I did manage to have a unique city list. Thanks for your comments about elephants too!

Are your flavor-related ideas in any way similar to TAM's culture specific minor wonder?
I've not really played TAM as much as I should have to be honest (as I was too busy creating my own mod!) so I'm unfamiliar with the culture specific minor wonder. I would have thought that Thamis would have done it the same way as I did the flavour stuff in the original game though (i.e. gave each civ four free untradeable advances that were required for techs later on in the game).

On the building idea, I have more questions than suggestions, but maybe they'll be helpful.
1) Would having the effects expire give the AI problems in terms of building it later? Would having them expire be necessary at all if each civs buildings were essentially balanced?
I'm not sure, it's going to be one of those things we try out and see what happens.

2)And if one civ took another civ's city with the improvement, could it then build the other civs buildings there? This might be a nice effect to allow one culture to absorb another's assets through conquest (e.g. Persia conquering Phoenicia and getting naval assets thereby, but only in the conquered region)
Love it. Wouldn't that be great? So a conqueror could, for example, build Hadrian's wall even though they don't have the prerequisite trait, but only in the conquered city that has that trait...yep, not thought about it, but that's really fantastic. I suppose they'd be able to take the city once the wonder had been built, so why not beforehand?

I'd like to thank all the well-wishers; it is appreciated and I feel like I've come home after being abroad for a while.

I forgot to show you guys this picture:

It's part of a new set I've done for Jasmine's website; I'm sure this could find a place in Anno Domini if I turned it into a Civ III leaderhead ;) .

...and she's looking at you, aaglo ;) ...

If I get time, I might actually create this leaderhead in September and run her against Grandraem's chick in the LH competition :mischief: .

I will have to say Numidia :)
Don't forget it's not just Numidia or Berber; I had a free space (that you pointed out as I'd put Thrace in twice) and suggested I filled it with the Alans (who had links with the early Slavs I understand ;) ); then I said that Antiochus VII had suggested the Numidians or Berber and asked whether one of those civs should get the slot instead of the Alans.

Alans ruled Slavs, so NO! but I didn't read
Antiochus VII had suggested the Numidians or Berber and asked whether one of those civs should get the slot instead of the Alans.
so this way I will firmly say "Great Moravs" if not then Numidia :p

Sir, Great Moravs are very much too late for the 500AD cut off point. So much so, that even Samo's empire, which I understand was a sort of predecessor, is too late  .
