Any strategy to handle the Bad Latency(Ping), eg Australia to American via Gamespy

The game lags so bad (if you're not living in America) that there are 30s pauses after every turn (when the timer expires 0:00). It takes 4 hours for just the Best Player in Tech to reach the Bureaucracy tech.

Wow I think it would have to be your connection, I get no lag playing against usa and euro's and im in nz.
If your on dialup this would happen but if your on broadband or cable id be asking you isp about it, or ping some sites in the states you should get around 100-300 for a decent connection.
I ping around 250 and have no problems playing civ online.
