Anyone ever worked in a call center?

How do you feel about call centers?

From an employment or a consumers perspective.

I once volunteered for a political campaign, and all they had me do was make phone calls. I never went back and will never work at a call center or do that again.

I like working here, as long as you're patient it's not a bad job to have.

I once worked for an inbound call center. It was the most mind numbing job I ever had. I would never do it again.

I once worked as a secretary for a congressional center. But I wasn't so much the center as I was the only person there taking incoming calls.

What did I think about it? Essentially, I only received* five types of calls. If you work at a call center long enough, you'll start to notice a certain pattern too.
1: people who think congressmen can do anything with immigration problems
2: old people
3: people who believe the congressman cares about their dyfs situation
4: crazies that believe their 'opinion' means anything nowadays
5: people who believe we can do something regarding welfare (unlike the top four, I actually cared about these types)


But In a nut shell, it was a bore. But some of the calls were freakin' hilarious!

Every call I received from someone who wanted to "tell" the congressman that gay marriage was wrong, against God, and should be banned was a field day for everyone. Everyone at the office laughs at what they said after they hang up.

I did out going calls at a (victorious ) congressional campaign this summer for a few dozen hours The one piece of advice if you have to bubble things in: this is a very bad method

this way is much superior:

I worked in a call centre for a couple of years. The pay was awful, but we had a ball. Espresso machine on the desk, the last smoking office on earth, extensive hacky sac breaks when business was slow, beer at the desk about half five.

Basically they wouldnt pay us more so they let us do whatever we wanted so long as the work got done. After two years I felt a desperate need to advance in some manner, however soft I had it.

I made the mistake of quitting my supervisor job to fix peoples computers......couldn't make to much money off of it and here I am, at the bottom of the food chain this time

I'm moving to Phoenix and finishing my dergee soon, though, so ill be out of this silly place soon.

I've got it so easy, they pay me good money to monitor other people working, this doesn't really take up a lot of my attention so I surf the Internet and CFC at the same time.

That said it's hardly a career though, good job on getting your degree.

People were being rasist and mocking my accent when I tried to shill products. Rasists all of them.

I remember it well the thread the bemusement, still a scar on your psyche, trust me I've been there, got fired for being a round peg in a round hole( I was great at my job in fact I was the best) It happens. Annoyng but that's the way it works, if you don't fit or you do the slightest thing wrong, you're gone. Morons run a popualrity contest, you'll notice it on this forum(not so much though thank God) And you'll notice it in real life, but morons will always be morons.

Heck, I still don't know what I did "wrong". But at any rate I have another job now, if it doesn't make me go completely insane it will look much better on my resume.

Not a call center, but I worked as a cashier and was expected to answer all the phone calls, too. Pain in the butt when it got busy; I think the place finally has a recorded message for answering the quicker questions (hours, directions, etc.).

Mcdonalds is way better than the call center at least there are no rasists in
