Anyone up for a new Chieftan SG?

I'm in the same boat, Sullla. :D

I am trying to provide a good level of commentary for the folks in the ct3-newbies game. But since my Civ3 playing time is currently limited to only a few hours per week, I couldn't possibly give a real in-depth level of commentary to this game, too. (not that I'm sure I'm that qualified, anyway. ;) I still struggle a little with Regent. Okay, a lot of that is because I only play a few hours a week, but, still ....)

Still, we can always point out the weedier things that are done, and try to point them in the right direction. :D

I posted this a little earlier. May I join? Could I be #5 of one of two teams, or if we get a few others, #4 of one of three teams?

It sounds like great fun as well as a good way to learn.

Let me know, please.

stwils:)

Glad to have you aboard.

Ok lets get the parameters decided so we can begin soon. I look forward to playing.

Padma, eventhough I just started playing Civ 3, I have been reading the succession game threads and have picked up a lot of good advice from them. Even the diety level threads.

:jump:

How does this sound for parameters?:

Diff: Warlord
Size: Standard
Civ: English (are we agreed on this one? I know some said Greeks)
Opponents: 7 (random)

- All victory conditions
- Restless barbs
- Random weather, Continents (I know in the previous game mentioned by Padma and Sulla that they got stuck with a very mountainous Archipelago map...this wouldn't help us in learning, I don't think)

and of course, turn off respawn, accelerated production, and culturally linked starting spots

They sound fine with me. Either English or Greeks will work too.

The other civs :rocket:

I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

Will we be Greeks or English? I am open to any civ.

Only one thing I do request. Whoever sets the game up please knock out the "respawn" thing. I was in a game once and we wiped out the last town of a civ only to have the same town spring back to life in the jungle.

I also think it will be good to have barbarians. Because, if we are English and have no barbarians, I'm not sure our scouts will find any goodie huts. I think the two are related somehow.

Another thought I had. Sulla mentioned that there might be others who want to be in a game on this level (chieftain/warlord.)(Most of the other SG - TD games have been at Regent or Emperor levels - way beyond some of us.) Should we wait, as he suggested a few days, and maybe have 3 teams if others want to join?

Thanks for welcoming me aboard!

stwils:)

If this is a reference to my earlier statement about struggling with Regent, then let me clarify a little. :)

The only reason I struggle at Regent is because I don't have the time available to do the stuff I know I need to do to be successful at even higher levels. :D

Try letting a week or more go by between times of picking up your current game. Much of my playing time is (or should be) spent figuring out what I was doing before, and what I should be doing next. Usually, I just want to play, so I make "less than optimal" choices, based on insufficient thought. :D

I have the knowledge to beat this game easily at Monarch, and probably even Emperor. I just don't have the motivation. Playing a Succession Game introduces the motivation. :) And I have played a number of SGs, including the original Training Day Games. I have learned a lot here, and hope to pass on what I have learned.

Indeed they are. If the Barbarian level is set to "None", either deliberately or by random choice, then NO Goody Huts will be available!

Those parameters sound fine to me. I haven't played with the English yet, so I guess there's a first time for everything!

So when are we going to get this started?

I'd like to play as any civ besides: Russia, Germany, Japan, or Zululand since I've already played games (or are currently playing) with them.

I have a question though. I've seen a lot of posts where people are talking about a "patch". I just installed the game and have been playing it, I haven't downloaded any patches. What does the patch change/upgrade? And am I going to need one to play this succession game? If so where can I get it?

If we all agree on the rules and the methodology (teams, single game, whatever) Then probably this weekend. :D

Whoa!!!

Important for all players!!!

When you start the game, after the initial splash screen and intro movie, look in the bottom left-hand corner. If you don't see "Version. 1.29f" there, you need to patch your game!

Go to the Civfanatics.com patch page to get this patch. This page also explains all the changes and fixes that are applied since the original release (version 1.07f). Many things are fixed by this patch (and its predecessors), including corruption, "stacking", Air Superiority, and many others.

If you are not patched to 1.29f, then you will not be able to play, as the saves are not backwards compatable!

Edit: I know Sullla, myself, stwils, BoBtheBUILDER, and archer_007 are already patched.

I'm patched too. And I agree with the game settings. The English are fine to me. A suggest that Padma and Sullla create a thread each, one for each team. Then one of you two creates the game and distributes it.

Actualluy stwils can be #4 in the second team, as stwils is the 8:th newbie.

Which pros is assigned to which team?

The pre-game settings sound good to me, English should be a good challenge, never used them before, But I won't be able start our game cause I have to go out of town today (Friday) and I won't be back til Monday so have someone else start the second game. A list of all the players involved would be a good idea and the order that we're in. See you guys on Monday. Whoever plays first, expand really fast, as fast as possible. (I have a paranoid fear of AI landlocks because of a game I played on Regent once, stuck in the jungle and couldn't get out!)

Well, I can't "officially" say you can join, since it isn't *my* game, but I don't think there will be a problem with it. 4 - 5 players makes for a good game, and you would just be the 5th on one of the teams. (I assume we're using the team concept. :D ) Actually, if another three "lurkers" here want to join, we could make a third team.

I will defer the creation of the actual game to Sullla, since he indicated he had a few things he might want to edit on the randomly generated map.

*Right Now* the teams look like this (I think)

Team A: (Sullla)
D-Tox
ZeekLTK
archer_007
Wetterlind
Zarth

Team B: (Padma)
VinCaiden
BoBtheBUILDER
Infoman
stwils

The next "joiner" will go to Team B, and if any more join, we will look at making a third team with Zarth + the newest people. One of us (or maybe a third "vet" would watch the third team.

Padma,

I will down loan the 1.29f patch this weekend and install. Other than that everything somes fine to me.

:D
