Apocalypto

the techs are worrying... I guess Lizie will go Electrics->Radio and start to build the stuff.

still not sure if you should vassal HC, he had there the island city, but having 1 city vassal doesn't hear hot. He has ton of gold though ;-)

I think going SP->AL is strong and important too, but maybe after Bio and you could probably partly bulb Bio with the GS. Or start golden age if you can in couple of turns.

Ok, since it seems my appeal on Mike didn't work, this is a got it. Will have a look later, hopefully play during the weekend. Continue absorbing HC, Monty at least.

Btw, can't the dagger from Monty have been simply a bribe by HC?

I supposed it first minute I read L report...wondered no one mentioned it up to now :-D

How can HC bribe Monty in on us when he is at war with Monty?

By the way, I've experienced a Monty dagger several times in the past while he was at war with other AIs. It really quite surprising since you don't expect AIs to DOW again while already at war. I can't recall any other AI doing this before - perhaps Shaka - can't recall. I wonder if this is built specifically into the Monty personality code.

then has to be dogpile attack.... didn't saw it mentioned much lately in S&T but I vaguely remember something like that... r_rolo would know better for sure

then has to be dogpile attack....

still doesn't make sense V...I think it is simply a combo of Monty being Monty and our relationship with him. Dogpile implies a concerted effort by 2 or more entities against a single entity. I would not call HC/Monty a concerted effort when they are fighting each other.

Again, I've been daggered by Monty while I was competely at peace and he was fighting other AIs, on more than one occasion.

All went quite smoothly until:

I hadn't noticed the red fist, which upon checking later was there for some time. But who ever takes Izzy seriously? Well, maybe I should have, as we have a little situation:

Civ4ScreenShot0865.jpg

We lost Calakmul, and our core underbelly is rather soft. However, I think we can whip forces on time to fend those units off and of course regain Calakmul (byebye Moai, however  ). Well, at least we have some added excitement to the game. :D

With typical Portuguese bravoury, Joao came knocking just after Izzy DoWed. Laughed him in the face of course. He too has a red fist now though. :mischief:

The good news however is that the Aztecs are dead and that the Incas are reduced to 1 city that will be ours next turn or the turn thereafter. Nice shrine from the Inca cap.

Bio is in. Queued communism for the sake of queueing something.

Don't Panic!!!! :run:

Thanks for the turnset nocho.

I take it that this other stack (of seven Galleons) to the west of Calakmul hasn't dropped off its load yet?

I'm thinking that we might have to chase Steel and in the meantime, and do what we can to fend off Spain's stacks, but I guess we can expect some more losses. Hopefully Mutal can be held.

I did mention that we needed to be wary of Iz in my report. However, I really should have done something in my turnset to put some lookouts in the ocean - it was hard though since Capac had Caravels all over our coast. It was pretty obvious that we were targets. Sucks to lose the Maoi - does it remain in the city or is it gone bye-bye?

Sometimes the AI will hold their troops in a captured city for a turn or two, so maybe we have time to secure the area.

Ideally we can hit Calakmul before it comes out of revolt.

edit: Looks like we can whip out a sufficient army in the area this turn and next. I'd whip a Rifle out of Mutal as well. We are starting to feel the Emancipation hurt

Why are Pikes queued up in Uxmal?

Hmm, looks like I get to play a nice and easy set :D, will look at the save later today.

Well, I am not so sorry to say that it has become very interesting and a bit exciting even for the lurkers.:mischief: It could be even more so if Izzy had been smart enough to get Uxmal as it's the same land-movement turns... I am sure you'll deal with it, and it would be enlightening to see how you'll manage the aftermath, the long-term implications would bother me even more than the formidable assault: at least you seem to be on par with military techs and are an ocean apart from Izzy.

I am quite curious about whether Joao will join the fray but am a bit anxious that it might turn a bit too much for you to handle, so I do keep my fingers crossed that he thinks it over...;)

I think that at this point it would be interesting for us, lurkers, to get the statistics again, please.

By the way, I see :scan: three gals and ten Spanish units in the conquered city, so, if BtS gals are not more capacious that WL ones, some of the other gals must have unloaded - unless there's a gal or two outside the frame of the screenshot, of course.

really not so surprising... a bit sooner then expected though. Was thinking that Izzy will first clear her island, but with the lovefest going on...

Reminds me a bit of Mighty Sury SG, but I think we had there a bit easier position (we had cavalry against cuirs+grens mostly and totally outdated 20 units stack)

airships would be very helpful in this scenario... I bet that izzy will heal the rifles and leave 3 rifles home before moving...
didn't check the save yet, but if there really is some 7 galleons troops going on, then it's one of best AI attacks I ever saw honestly.

with 10 units in city and let's say 2 lost by attack it is troops from 4 galleons...

drafting would be cool to have I guess...draft those endangered cities to death :-)

The plan:
- Take Capac's last city.
- Whip out an army, retake Calakmul.
- Keep an eye on Izzy's fleet.
- If situation allows, declare on SB
- Tech: what do we want next? Do we need Comm already, or should we go for Demo first to get Emancipation anger under control? Or do we want steel first?

Well - I hope you can do all of that - it'll make my turnset a lot easier!

One vote for Steel - a bit of Cannon damage on Spain's / Native America's stacks would be handy.

I vote for making Cam's turnset a lot easier! :D

Not sure cannons will be much of a factor by that time Steel arrives, but I'm not opposed to it. SP would be a welcome civic though.

Turn 0:
First stop: run through all our cities. I mm some cities to produce a cavalry next turn without whipping only 1pop. Next turn a bunch of cavalry will be whipped, and voila, instant army. Let's see what Izzy is planning with those seven Galleons of her.
As for tech: The GSpy from Communism is gone, SP is nice, but not needed yet. Demo, the emancipation anger will be more manageable when I get rid of Capac, so not strictly necessary at this point. Steel will be too late too help with our current wars. So at this point, it doesn't really matter. I'll pick up steel first, then we can go from there.

Turn 1:
Izzy is doing pretty much nothing with her fleet…

Turn 2:
We capture Tiwanaku, and end Capac's reign of terror, or something like that.
Spoiler :
apo_4_tiwa.png

In an utter display of power, Izzy burned our city on the pigs-island to the ground. Ah well.

Turn 3:
Izzy moves out:
Spoiler :
apo_4_izzyonthemove.png

And now Izzy's invading force is reduced to 2 rifles and a cavalry.

Now isn't that cute:
Spoiler :
apo_4_izzyisland.png

(note that her galleons are on the way back to her continent)

We also got a GG, he's hanging around.

Turn 4:
Calakmul is ours once more. Moai is gone though :(

Spoiler :
apo_4_calakmul.png

Not completely however:

Turn 5:
I stop here for now (this took me long enough). I will continue tomorrow. I'll regroup our units into two stacks for taking on SB. I'll probably start the war as well. Izzy is unwilling to talk, and will probably stay that way for some turns still. I doubt we have inflicted enough damage on her to get a decent peace-treaty, though one can always hope. As soon as steel is in, I'll build a bunch of cannons so that we can do something about the island stack. Maybe that'll change her mind.

Excellent work! :)

Again - just wondering about Free Market (if no hurry to State Property) + Free Religion?

We can also put The Forbidden Palace on the agenda if State Property's going to be deferred ... if so, by much or little?

Couple of thoughts:

1) I'd rather wait for a GP to run a GA for the civic switch. We should focus Laka on getting out some specialist buildings to run more merchants/priests/artists...whatever...other than scientists to get GPs out a bit quicker. 2turns of anarchy is huge at this point.

2) I assume Izzy's stack will bump out once we make peace. Possibly keep an eye out in the east for any Dutch stacks, if Willie bothered.

3) We probably should start focusing some cities on wealth research building and just get in the minimal required buildings. We are plenty large enough to take out SB with fewer cities focused on units.

SP might be a good thing to run eventually, but I'm not opposed to going corps as well.
